What the Experts Are Telling Us

Since most of you don't know too much about my background, I thought I would start out first just telling you a little bit about who I am and so you'll be a little more familiar with that.

I was not raised a Seventh-day Adventist.

I became an Adventist when I was about 23 years old.

It was from a crisis of an overdose of drugs and I made God a promise that if he would let me live to see the morning sun that I would find him.

And so I opened up the telephone book the next day, started going to churches, then a crusade came to town, the Kenneth Cox, attended the Kenneth Cox Crusade and was baptized.

And then I attended Pacific Union College for 2 years, Union College for 2 years, pastored twice in California, but I got more interested in health evangelism.

I found out that was the injuring wedge and the right arm, and so I thought, this looks good.

So I started doing a lot more of the health and I've been doing that for over 3 decades now and I enjoy it immensely, the work that I do.

Growing up we didn't have a lot of health practices even though my mother was a nurse and she should have known better, but then back in the 50s and 60s we didn't know as much as we know today.

Today our medical laboratories and our medical technology is so advanced that we know what happens when you eat anything.

We can follow it, we can understand it, and so the food industry can't tell us lies anymore like they used to.

We know what happens when you drink a coca-cola or when you eat a banana.

We know what happens when you have a Mac attack or drunken donuts or kernel cholesterol and so we can follow that through but when you eat carrots and potatoes and oranges like you should be, we can follow that as well.

Now part of the problem in my family is we had a lot of junk food.

How many of you have any junk food in your house?

I can do search and seizure if you're not sure, okay?

We had too much junk food and that was because of my dad's profession.

That meant a lot of grease and sugar in the house.

My dad is actually a very famous cake decorator.

He has decorated cakes for 4 American presidents.

On the top was President Eisenhower, that's my father decorating John F.

He also did President Truman and President Johnson.

Every 5 years in Germany they have what's called the World Culinary Olympics where the best cake decorators, ice carvers, and chefs come to Germany to compete.

And 1 year my dad won the gold medal, recognizing him as the number 1 cake decorator in the world and there's his gold medal right there.

In 1976 when America celebrated her 200th birthday, the state of California commissioned my father to make the biggest birthday cake in the world.

That cake was 3 stories high and weighed 35, 000 pounds.

However, Had it been, my brother and I would have tried to eat it.

In high school, my brother played football.

At graduation, he was named All-State Tackle.

He was the number 1 tackle football player in the state of Alaska.

If you were against my brother on the field, you better lay down and stay down or you're gonna go down.

I was busy in the bleachers with the cheerleaders.

I wasn't interested in 12 guys chasing after me and so I didn't play football.

But after we graduated, my brother got out on the, wasn't out on the track anymore, he wasn't working out anymore, but he kept eating the junk food we learned to eat as teenagers, which is 1 of the reasons why I go into the high schools to try to get the teenagers set straight.

In fact, because of Michelle Obama, we're going clear down to third grade.

They asked me to go into elementary schools because their health habits are so bad in the elementary school that we've got to start even younger.

But after graduation, the junk food, no exercise, I got a picture of my brother and his wife a number of years ago, both of them each weigh over 600 pounds.

My grandfather died at 320 pounds when his heart exploded in his chest.

My dad topped out at 280, and I was born bigger than my brother at birth.

I was born a year later, but as soon as I learned how to walk, I took off.

And the junk food, of course, didn't help any of us.

We can change that now to Sunday, And we'll go to, we'll move it up.

Now, we wanna take a look at what some of the experts have to say to us.

And there are a lot of experts running around.

You do have to be careful on the internet because some of these experts are sponsored by corporations or certain food items, and so they may not be telling you the whole story of the product that they're represented.

So, for my expertise, I go first and foremost to the Bible And then the second to the inspired writings that God has given us.

And the Bible from Genesis to Revelation has lots of information on health principles.

As a health educator when I read my Bible I go, oh that's a health principle.

So it's really quite amazing how much is in there.

There are many, many verses in the scripture dealing with water, sunshine, rest, exercise, air, nutrition.

So let's take a look at just a couple of them and I think you'll find them quite interesting.

In Psalms 104, we've got some good guidelines here.

He causes the grass to grow for the cattle.

So what are the cattle supposed to be eating?

No, they're eating a lot of other things.

They're eating ground up chickens and you can't put meat in a vegetarian animal.

So you're going to have some bad results.

So God says, I caused the grass to grow for the cattle and vegetation for the labor of man.

The vegetation, so that they may bring forth food from the earth.

If it doesn't come out of the ground or out of the tree, that's not yours.

Your food is supposed to come from the earth.

And now, verses 27 and 28, talking about his children now, God's people.

They all wait for thee, meaning God, to give them their food in due season.

The fruits, nuts, grains, and vegetables.

You see, animals are available all year round, aren't they?

But fruits and vegetables only comes in seasons.

And this is telling us in Psalms 104, 27, that he's gonna give us our food in due season.

Verse 28, thou dost give it to them and they gather it up.

You run after, hunt, and stalk an animal, but you gather fruits and vegetables.

Animals don't stand still, but you pick them up.

So our food is supposed to be food that we gather that comes in seasons.

And then it says, thou dost open thy hand, and they are satisfied with the good.
