Responsibility in Communication

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, Lord.

They asked once a great orator how long it had taken him to put the speech together and he said 30 years.

I've not spoken on this topic before but on little parts of it And so this is very difficult to talk about and it has taken me many many hours to refine further this handout that you received and I'm still very disappointed with it and it needs many revisions but it's an attempt to explain communication on 1 page and of course that's impossible.

Communication is the essence of love, I believe.

I will tell you where my proof of that is in a few moments.

If you get nothing else from this, look at the top verse on that big fancy chart.

But to do good and to communicate, forget not, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

I'll speed up a little bit more, tell me to slow down if I go too fast, because we don't have much time to cover what should take centuries.

To Communicate, forget not, for with such a sacrifice God is well pleased." You'll remember the verse before that says, that talks about bringing the sacrifice of praise into the house of our God.

You know that song, we bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of our God.

Well it is difficult to praise God in times of distress and in times of great trauma and loss.

You know, Ephesians 5 20, we are supposed to thank God in all things.

But, and even as difficult as that is, as much of a sacrifice as that is, there's something that God knows is more of a sacrifice and more difficult for us to do and that is to communicate.

So what he's saying is to communicate, forget not, for with this sacrifice God is exceedingly well pleased.

After reading this verse in the context for many, many years, that's what I've come to, that's what he's saying.

God is exceedingly well pleased because communication is the essence of loving.

Our actions are also part of loving, and our feelings are part of love.

Love is a many-splendored thing, and we will go over that in a few minutes.

Love is planning, love is gift-giving, love is hugging, love is verbal validation, love is spending quality time together, love is giving gifts, love is many other things beyond what Gary Chapman explained in the book, the 5 love languages.

I gave you 2 pages so you can take notes if you like on the back of this other 1 or wherever you want because there's no space for notes on the big, on the big chart.

We're gonna start simply and this is where it all comes from.

I have attempted over the years to put together all the theories of psychology into 1 grand unification theory.

Of course everyone wants that, just, you know, that's like grand unification theory of physics.

But it started when I saw this once in various theories.

The next step is discernment and judgment.

If you memorize this, everything else flows from that.

You will be far ahead of most any psychologist.

I was trained in Adventist schools, grade school, high school, college, medical school, residency.

And The problem is that only now in the last 2 years has Loma Linda begun to talk about a Christian psychological perspective.

Harding Hospital was a Christian hospital and there were many Christians on the staff, but what we were taught were the world's theories of psychology.

And some of those are pretty good, but they only really point out the problems.

Even Freud figured out that, he figured out that we're all narcissistic at the core.

The heart, the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked or self-serving.

But he didn't have an answer and his basic answer was, okay then just be narcissistic and enjoy being that way.

And he espoused things like smoking cocaine and things like that.

So the World Series don't give us an answer.

We—the only answer we can have, the only real change is a change that God can do on the heart.

We have to, God has to give us Ezekiel 36, 26 new hearts.

We have to have new motives and new feelings that God will give us.

However, He works with us in a cooperative effort, and we have a part to do.

And there are some things that we must do that God will not do for us.

He will prompt us to do these things, but he will not do them for us.

In doing this work of psychiatry for many years and even having hundreds and hundreds of teachers, probably 50 psychologists, probably 150 pastors as my patients and others of—other people of influence with others.

I've been asked many times, but I have asked God to do this for me and I had to say many times, no, you have to do this with God, we do it together with God.

All of these steps we need to do in part, and we need to do them with God and with others.

Every single part of this needs to be done internally with ourself, with those around us and with God.

The end of all this is what we already know from the word.

Notice if you look at your, card cycle again, and we'll just stick with this from now on.

We need to do, these are the steps that we need to do.

This is what holy love is and it needs to, and it ends here.

But of course another circle, another cycle starts here, that's why I put it right by that 1.

So it starts here and it goes around like that.

The goal of all this, after we evaluate it, is to see if this really makes us holier, holiness unto the Lord.

If this leads to healing, that's what verse number 22 is.

Confess your faults to 1 another and pray for 1 another that you may be healed.

If it, that 12 is an error, it's actually 11.

If our actions lead to making more disciples, these are some of the tests after we, to evaluate what we have done in our life.

Number 7, number 7 is about, is about rebuking and exhorting the wicked to repent and to come to repentance.

On here was supposed to be Matthew 5, Matthew 28, go and make disciples of all men, so that's another 1 of our goals.

First thing we have to do is pay attention to our feelings.

I think this is some of the most difficult thing to do.

Surprisingly even though our feelings are very powerful and we feel them sometimes people we sometimes we assume that our feelings are so strong that because we feel them, that all those around us know how we feel.

As you pay attention to feelings, try to, you will notice that your feelings will emerge.

And as they emerge, they need to be expressed, and they need to be named, and they need to be received, they need to be accepted.

And then they need to be analyzed, that's step 2.

So, feelings will emerge, express your feelings, receive the feelings and then we go to the next step which is thinking or analysis.

Feelings are things like joy, Things like surprise, things like conviction, things like sadness, hurt, anger, fear.

We basically have only 2 uncomfortable feelings, if you can boil it down to this.

1 feeling is hurt loss and the other main feeling is the fear of more hurt loss.

There's some who say that anger is another feeling.

Anger is a combination of hurt loss plus fear of more hurt loss with greater fear, more alarm of more hurt loss and a reaction that said, no, I protest this hurt loss or more hurt loss.
