7 Attacks Against the Truth

God is very good and I am so delighted to share with you just a Bible study that the Lord has helped me to put together.

And just as we are living in the last moments of this earth's history, it is all the more important that we understand and know what sayeth the scriptures what does the Lord say I'm reminded where the king Zedekiah I believe it's in Jeremiah 37 this was shortly before Israel went into captivity and he sent for the Prophet Jeremiah and he said, is there any word from the Lord?

There is a word, a message from the Lord.

And so I'm here today, I believe, to share with you some of the things that I believe are are challenging and threatening and attacking the precious truth that God has for this time in Earth's history.

And so but before I get into that, can I just share a couple things with you about how awesome God has revealed himself to me in just some small ways in his word I'm gonna ask for your indulgence to just just share a few things take your Bibles if you have them hopefully you all do and turn with me to Revelation chapter 3 I mentioned something this morning and I want to expand on that just a little bit?

Revelation chapter 3 and looking at the message to the church at Laodicea and verse 20.

All right, Revelation chapter 3, verse 20, it says, Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come into him and will sup with him and he with me." Now I've heard that verse literally hundreds of times in my life but I learned something just a month or 2 ago.

I was sick just recently and I had a bad sinus infection and I was I was laying in bed and as I was laying there I couldn't sleep it was late at night and I was in our guest bedroom by myself and I thought you know I'm just going to I'm gonna put on and listen to some an audio of the the book thoughts from the Mount of Blessings if you've ever read that book it's based on the the story of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount well anyway As I was listening to that I caught an idea that caused me even though I was sick and it was late at night Just to just bolt upright and say that is light and truth.

That's so awesome related to this verse What does Jesus say if we open the door to our hearts?

He will come in and sup with us and he with us what does that exactly mean flip over with me to John chapter 6 for just a moment the gospel of John chapter 6 and I want you to see if you can see what the Lord impressed upon me and I'll see if you agree with me as to what he is talking about John chapter 6 and we want to look at verse 48 and a few verses that follow after that.

I hope you're not too sleepy after that delicious potluck meal that we had.

It was delicious Very good John 6 48 jesus says I am that bread of life Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead This is the bread which cometh down from heaven that a man may eat thereof and not die.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever and the bread which I will give is my flesh Which I will give for the life of the world verse 52 the Jews therefore strove among themselves saying how can this man give us his flesh to eat then Jesus said unto them verily verily I say unto you except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you now that's a shocking statement that Jesus is making there but if you skip down to verse 63 he clarifies really what he's saying John 663 he says it is the spirit that quickeneth the flesh profiteth Nothing now notice the words that I speak unto you.

They are spirit and they are life so Backing up to when Jesus says if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in and eat with him and he with me.

It's not just, hey we're gonna go to Taco Bell together and have a...

I mean I like Taco Bell, that's why I mentioned that.

I mean you know eating with someone is a very...

It's a close relationship type of an activity, But what he's spiritually talking about is when you let me come into your heart, I will open up my word to you and help you to see and understand what it means.

How many times have I read that and just, oh yeah, yeah, I mean, eat together, sure, and just kind of brush it on but it's really an understanding of his word let's look at something else really quick and then I'll get into the message go to the book of Psalms verse chapter 138 I want you to see something that God says about how He has done something to His Word.

And this is, I mean this verse right here, if this doesn't really excite you, then I don't know, I'll come and check your pulse.

David is writing here, Psalm 138 verse 2, I will worship toward thy holy temple And praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth now watch for thou hast magnified thy word above what all thy name What does that mean?

We have 1 of a commit 1 of the commandments the third commandment says of course thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain for The Lord will not hold him guiltless which taketh his name in vain I mean his name is holy and reverent Psalm 111 verse 9 But what does God himself say about his word You have magnified you have exalted it even above all your name That's not to minimize the name of God at all.

It's just to elevate the message that he has given That's powerful That is a powerful thought to me that he has magnified his word above all his name.

And if you start to study the Bible with some people, I have studied with some that they want to argue with me about well, you're not using the right name for God.

You're not using the right name for Jesus.

No, no, no, you're not getting the power.

Those arguments are detracting from what God wants us to focus on, and what He wants us to focus on is what He says.

The actual message is what He wants us to know.

And so, do you see that clearly in that verse?

That should shut that that discussion down.

There shouldn't be a discussion when you see, let's not discuss and argue what name to call God, let's focus on what He says in His Word.

So I am thankful that God, as we study carefully, the answers to some of the questions that we might have are all there all the answers to every person's life and all the issues they're facing are in his word well I've entitled this study 7 attacks against the truth a Bible study and it's based on a look at this for just a second go to John chapter 8 verse 32 it says and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free John 8 32 we want to know what truth is but I want you to understand something as we're looking at this you shall know the truth well how are you going to know the truth is it going to just fall out of the sky and drop on you like a lightning bolt someday is it am I going to trip over it and I'll find it somehow accidentally the answer the you know The answer to this in the context, let's back up 1 verse from John 8 32 and notice verse 31.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him if ye continue What does the word continue mean?

Continue means something has already started right something has already started if you continue in what?

My word then are ye my disciples indeed if you continue in my word so then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him what is their belief based on it's based on they have a belief and what he's saying his word is having an impact and changing their lives and so therefore they are believing on him because of his word and So the same is true for us if we continue in his word That is to continue to faithfully study to show ourselves approved unto God then we will be his disciples indeed and so I want to be his disciple today amen amen let's notice a verse now in Revelation chapter 12 and verse 9 Revelation chapter 12 verse 9 with our great controversy theme that I mentioned today.

Notice what it says here, "...and the great dragon was cast out.

That old serpent called the devil and Satan, which does what?

Again, studying with non- Adventists is excellent because it really sharpens your Bible study.

And as I was studying with this 1 fellow, he was adamant with me.

I mean just everybody's deceived is that what it says deceive it the whole world and so I had to really look look a little more closely because it says the meaning of what this is is that the dragon is actively trying to deceive everyone and Unfortunately, he is very successful in deceiving most but he is trying to deceive everyone the whole world and His policy of deception We ought to know about it.

The Bible explains what Satan is up to so that we won't be deceived But Jesus says in John 3 19 and this is the condemnation That light light is a symbol for truth that light is coming to the world and men loved darkness rather than light why because their deeds were evil that is a sad statement John 3 19 just after the famous John 3 16 the the verse that we all know John 3 19 Jesus follows up and says the condemnation is that men love darkness rather than light so that is not I pray our response to truth there are 2 responses to truth You can read about in the book of Acts, you can either accept it and be converted and repent, or you can fight and war against it and try to kill those who present truth.

So I'm hoping that the former will be the response today to this presentation that I want to share with you.

All right, the question, what time is it?

You know I'm always focused on time because I teach history I mean I don't know if you can fault me for that I teach history I live in the past I live in the present try to and I'm also because of the scriptures we have a roadmap for what the future is you know prophecy is just history in advance And so I am thankful that the Lord has given us his word as a light that shineth in a dark place.

This is believed to be the last letter that Paul wrote before he was executed because he was a Roman citizen he could not be tortured and so he was beheaded Does anyone know here's a history question who was the Roman Emperor that authorized that beheading?

It was Nero correct the Roman Emperor Nero is the 1 who executed according to early Christian tradition both Peter and Paul but Peter was not a Roman citizen so he could be tortured and was crucified accordingly upside down all right now let's notice 2nd Timothy 4 3 & 4 for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine the word doctrine actually in the Greek is teaching the time will come they will not endure sound doctrine but after their own lush shall they heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and they shall what And they shall turn away their ears from the truth and they shall be turned unto fables Interesting comment now.

I want you to notice from the spirit of prophecy great controversy page 594 Hopefully all of you have read the great controversy Watch what she says right here the Apostle Paul declared looking down to the last days The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine and she quotes 2nd Timothy 4 3 notice what's in red I don't know if you can see it.

Then she follows up by saying that time has fully come that time when they will not endure sound doctrine has fully come brothers and sisters the time has definitely fully come that people will not endure the sound teachings in the Word of God Will not endure that and hopefully I pray that is not our response to the sound doctrine the sound teaching We find in the Word of God May that never be the case, but that time has fully come.

She wrote those words in 1888 That is when the first edition of the great controversy came out.

Is it so that people will not endure sound doctrine?

The multitudes do not want bible truth She says because it interferes with the desires of the sinful world-loving heart and Satan supplies the deceptions which they love.

Well we need to be aware that time has come when people will not endure sound doctrine.

Well let's notice here How should we respond to errors?

Let's look at Ephesians chapter 4 flip over to the book of Ephesians chapter 4 and We're gonna look at this is just laying a foundation here for our study today Ephesians chapter 4 verses 14 and 15 and when you're there please say amen all right good you're still awake that we henceforth be no more children tossed to and fro And carried about with every wind of doctrine by the slight of men and cunning craftiness whereby they lie and wait to deceive But doing what speaking the truth in love?

We must have love in our hearts when we share and present the truth.

I have to have a relationship with God to have his love in order to share the truth.

But speaking the truth in love may grow up unto him in all things which is the head even Christ.

We are called to speak the truth in love and this is so important as we are facing errors today now I want to also point out some verses here let's look quickly at some of these Ezekiel chapter 3 verses 17 through 19 We'll start with that the prophet Ezekiel was a contemporary that means he lived at the same time as Jeremiah and Daniel.

This is during the time of the captivity and exile in Ezekiel was taken as a captive to Babylon in the second deportation by Nebuchadnezzar.

597, all right, we're looking for Ezekiel, Ezekiel 3, 17.

And it says, oh, somebody started out for me.

Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me give who warning Israel them and if I continue on the rest of the verse talks about if you do not warn the wicked man of his ways then I will require his blood at your hands but if you warn the wicked person and they turn from their ways then you've delivered your soul you've done your job you've done what you're supposed to do by the way are any of you following along with the church's plan of revival and Reformation by reading the the daily Bible chapter that is something that the church put out.

Does anyone, nobody looks like they understand what I'm talking about.

Right now we're reading the book of Ezekiel.
