Channels

I am new to Little Light and I moved out to help them, not this past November, but the 1 before that.

From Missouri, I was working in agriculture, not the kind that Tommy talked about.

Friday night though, I was working for a company that was purchased by Land O'Lakes.

So I worked in a lab testing herbicides and pesticides and all that.

So did that for a while and, you know, I seen something on Facebook and it was Scott.

And I seen it, and I said, you know what?

That is the piece that I needed to change the course of my life.

And so now I work with these guys on a full-time basis.

I actually quit my job to work with them.

Tommy, or not Tom, but Scott inspired me this morning talking about his wife.

So, my wife's beautiful, you can have confidence in that.

I say that because I have 4 children, so you know she's beautiful, right?

And she's at home with them today in paradise.

So a lot of you, we probably threw you for a bit of a loop.

You're thinking, wait a minute, I thought we were coming to a Battlefield Hollywood seminar.

And then Scott got up this morning and he's talking about marriage.

You're like, wait a minute, I thought we were coming to a Battlefield Hollywood seminar.

And so we're gonna start to throw you for a little bit of another loop.

I'm gonna talk to you about history, okay?

We'll get to some of the more Hollywood movie stuff towards the end.

But I wanna talk to you about channels this morning.

Not necessarily the kind that you flip with your remote while you're watching TV.

I'll talk to you about a different kind of a channel.

Let's turn in our Bibles this evening to Genesis chapter 2.

And I'll turn there with you, and we'll read those.

It starts out, it says, and the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.

The first time in the Bible that we see that God commanded man to do something.

Many Christians will dismiss the commands of the Bible because of the cross.

But when we look at this verse, we see that the cross was needed because this command was not heeded.

So I invite you to go a few verses beyond that into Genesis chapter 3.

I really like studying this chapter, there's so much that we can unpack from here.

And so if we start with verse 1 it says, Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden.

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it lest you die.

Then the serpent said to the woman, you will not surely die, for God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

The word subtle here in Hebrew means crafty.

And if you trace that word back even further, it comes from a pre-Indo-European word that means to turn, like a seafaring vessel.

Isn't that exactly what the devil wants to do to us these days?

He wants to change our course just slightly from the get-go, wants to turn us so that when we wind up in our destination, we're not where God wants us to be.

Satan used a medium to deliver that message And the message directly contradicted the Word of God.

There are no consequences for sin, essentially.

But the Bible is very clear about this truth.

And it's echoing the same principle that God said in the garden.

Ecclesiastes 9.5, many of you may be familiar with this, it tells us, For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten." So if they don't know anything, how much information do they have for us?

This verse is fascinating because it gives us a clue into spiritualism, into the purpose of spiritualism.

What was the serpent trying to get Eve to see?

The Bible says in Psalm 13, 3, Consider and hear me, O Lord my God, and lighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death.

If David was going straight to eternal glory to be with his Lord, then why would he be concerned about God be hearing his prayer here on earth if he was about to die?

In John chapter 11, also, Jesus plainly tells us that Lazarus, he said he's dead, he said he's dead, right?

Said he was sleeping, but he said he's dead.

I'd like to bring out a couple of quotes from Ellen White today that talk about spiritualism, and especially how it relates to the end times.

She says in Great Controversy, I saw that the saints must have a thorough understanding of the present truth.

A simple way to think of it is wherever Jesus is present, that's present truth.

Which they will have to maintain from the Scriptures.

They must understand the state of the dead, for the spirits of devils will yet appear to them, professing to be beloved friends and relatives, who will declare to them unscriptural doctrines.

They will do all in their power to excite sympathy and work miracles before them.

To confirm what they declare, the people of God must be prepared to withstand these spirits with the Bible truth that the dead know not anything and that they are the spirits of devils." Pretty powerful quote.

Here's another 1 from Maranatha, page 166.

Satan has been long preparing for his final effort to deceive the world.

The foundation of his work was laid by the assurance given in Eden.
