The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple, and his hands shall also finish it.

Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me, has sent me to you.

For who has despised the day of small things?

Eternal God and Father in heaven, here we are once again at the sixth annual Amen Conference.

We thank you for the blessings of the Sabbath day that has come to an end, and now for the opportunity to focus on this ministry that you've put in our hands here at Amen.

So accompany me even as I seek to be a conduit of the words that you have for all of us tonight.

The theme of my devotional tonight is entitled, Why Media?

I want to take this opportunity to welcome our wider audience.

Some of you may have remembered, I think Dr.

Barton mentioned that on Thursday night when we started, that we are transmitting this, broadcasting it live on the Life and Health Network.

So I want to take the opportunity to welcome those of you who have chosen to join us on the Life and Health Network.

I want to remind those of you who may not be able to join us now, or those of you who are here may want to invite somebody or look at it in the future.

It'll be soon archived on our website, lifeandhealthnetwork.org.

In the year 538 BC, after 70 years of captivity that was determined by prophecy for the Jews, the first contingent of exiles left Babylon, which is now under Medo-Persian rule, and returned to Jerusalem.

In the book of Ezra, chapter 1, it is recorded, in Ezra 1, 1 to 4, Now in the first year of Cyrus, king of Persia, that word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all of his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, thus says Cyrus, king of Persia, all the kingdoms of the earth, the Lord God of heaven has given me, and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

And let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel.

He is God, which is in Jerusalem, and whoever is left in any place where he dwells, let the men of his place help him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, besides the freewill offerings for the house of God, which is in Jerusalem.

Ezra records that Cyrus commanded that all the articles of the temple that the Babylonians had removed be returned, and that the temple in Jerusalem be rebuilt.

And so my question to you tonight is why was it important that the temple be rebuilt and that Jerusalem be restored?

Was it just to fulfill a prophecy by Jeremiah 70 years earlier, as was mentioned?

Was it just that the Jews may again be able to offer sacrifices at the temple, which had been suspended?

Was it because their punishment for disobedience was now complete.

You may answer yes to all of the above, but the most compelling reason for this to be fulfilled is recorded in the book of Haggai, who along with the prophet Zechariah was a contemporary of the first exiles.

And in Haggai 2, verse 9, chapter 2, verse 9, it is clear, the glory of this latter temple, Haggai says, shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts.

And in this place, I will give peace, says the Lord of Hosts.

You see, God was in the process of fulfilling a grand plan with eternal and universal implications that transcended these exiles and even the entire Jewish diaspora.

The completion of the Temple and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem were critical to the success of the entire plan of salvation first articulated in Genesis 3.15, soon after the fall of our first parents and long before the father of the Jewish nation even appeared on the scene.

But what is so exciting is that God depended on men like Ezra, a priest and teacher of the law, governors such as Zerubbabel and Nehemiah, and prophets such as Haggai and Zechariah, all working together at different times to achieve his divine plan.

So the elders of the Jews built and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai, the prophet, and Zechariah, the son of Edo.

They built and finished it according to the commandments of the God of Israel, and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, king of Persia.

Now, the temple was finished on the third day of the month at Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

In the Book of Nehemiah, it is recorded that the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt after much discouragement and opposition, much of it from within.

But a divine plan was fulfilled despite these obstacles put forward by the archenemy, and this was a temple and a city that the Messiah came to over 500 years later.

So what is the relevance to our topic tonight?

Why media and to the Life and Health Network.

4 years ago, in the year 2006, we gathered in the same city of San Diego for a second AMEN conference.

On a Saturday night, just like this, with many of our medical and dental students attending like tonight.

Earlier during that Friday lunch period, we had some focus groups meet to network and brainstorm as to how we can advance Amen's mission of medical evangelism.

1 of these groups was called the Media Group, chaired by our own board member at that time, Lauren Barton.

She related to me the energy and enthusiasm that group shared for AMEN to have a presence in media.

Specifically, the vision was entertained as to Amen having a satellite channel totally dedicated to medically evangelistic health programming.

Our presenter that Saturday night had attended a focus group on media, and he brought before us that night in a powerful way the potential for that vision.

After a review of biblical and spirit of prophecy statements relevant to that vision, he closed by asking a very straightforward and simple question to the audience who was there, and a much smaller audience than tonight, I must say.

This question was, what if every physician and dentist in attendance today would only commit $10, 000 toward this vision?

A medical student walked down the aisle, took off his name tag, some of them are here tonight, some of them are practicing actually, took off his name tag and placed it on a platform right here as a symbol of his commitment.

Soon after that, a total of 50 other people, 49 other people came up here at that location where we were and left their name tags as a symbol of their commitment, totaling approximately half a million dollars, most of which has since been received.

As President of the Amendment at that time, I was troubled by what appeared to be a disregard of protocol.

But in the end, I firmly believe, moved by the spirit of myself, I came up here, took off my name tag, and placed it right here on this platform, and gave my support to that vision.

Today I stand before you 4 years later with no regrets as to having done that.

Over the past 4 years as I've reflected on this signal event in our organizational history, amen, I'm reminded of many times the history of God's people.

He often used these unconventional methods to communicate to his people.

In the days of Ahab, he sent Elijah to rebuke the apostate king with a prediction of drought in the land.

And I did not think that Elijah followed protocol at that time.

After about 3 and a half years of that drought, he challenged all Israel among Carmel to choose that day whom they will serve.

I remain convicted 4 years later that the Lord used an imperfect instrument that night at Amen to challenge us to lift our eyes beyond the known, the comfortable, the predictable, and to venture with Him into an arena beyond our comfort zone, into the unknown, beyond predictable, to a mindset, a place where the divine is once again sovereign over our hearts, our thoughts and actions, and most critically, our possessions.

You see, earlier that day, I had made what I consider to be a sizable faith commitment and amen offering, just like most of you have probably done this morning.

But in the end, the event had little to do with money.

It was an invitation to engage in a partnership with the Almighty and a grand task of re-energizing the right arms so that a great and final message of Revelation 14 may be completed.

It is a challenge to all of us to take hold of our role like the exiles returning from captivity and rebuilding that temple in the walls of Jerusalem, just like they saw the great God manifested in their time, we too are invited through our partnership with him in this effort to enter into that partnership with him in his last days.

In the process, we become spiritually energized and it impacts our entire being and strengthens that personal relationship with him.

Well, I confess right before you as a past president of AMEN that we dragged on for 3 years, developing a few programs here and there, but not moving ahead with the original vision which was entertained at night, namely the satellite vision of having that presence.

But last year, the board asked me to chair the media committee, which has since been split off to become the AMEN Media Board.

From April of this year, when our board received that autonomy and that mandate, it needed to achieve its vision.

We on the AMEN board have aggressively pursued that original vision.

And tonight, on behalf of that board, the AMEN Media Board, I'm pleased to report several key accomplishments.

Soon after we received that mandate, we incorporated AMEN Media in the state of California right here, under the name AMEN Media Incorporated, which is the official name of which Life & Health Network is how we do business as.

Shortly after that, that same 1, we contracted with a satellite company to provide 24-7 satellite presence.

And soon after that, in the month of June, we launched a 24-7 satellite presence on the same satellite, Galaxy 19, where you find Hope, 3ABN, and others.

During that time, we also prepared our exhibit, which many of you may have had a chance to visit.

We also prepared a high-impact promotional DVD in time for the ASI luncheon in August of this year.

Those of you who were there were able to witness it, and those of you who were not will see it tonight.

We are live streaming on the internet 24-7.

And recently, I'm pleased to announce that the Lord has blessed us in such a way that we have been able to obtain a presence on the Roku system, which you'll hear some more about, but it basically gives us a viewership of around a million people who have broadband access.

And we were number 85 in the networks that are on it, and the only totally dedicated health channel on that system.

Well the high point of the developments in AMEN Media has been that we're able to, it's exactly what is happening here right now, we took on a broad vision of being able to broadcast Amen, all of our plenary sessions here at Amen, to a wider audience on the Life and Health Network and live streaming on the Internet.

This evening, this afternoon, before I even was prepared to speak on this, but long after I prepared it, I had the amazing privilege to sit with Elder Finley, Brian Schwartz and myself, our board members, and share with him our vision, which he had already seen some being a speaker at our ASI luncheon, and I'm pleased at this time to announce that he also has agreed to serve as an advisor to our Amen Media Board.

And that for me is a tremendous development, because I've said this at the ASI luncheon, Of all the ministers and all the pastors in the entire Seventh-day Adventist Church, I think Elder Finley comes the closest to being a fellow professional with each 1 of us.

He has seemed to have had this great and traumatic, amazing understanding of the medical work, even though he has never really, quote, practiced medicine the way most of us do.

And that was witnessed this morning in his presentation.

Well how does this relate to AMEN's mission?

How does Life and Health Network and this whole media venture relate to AMEN's mission to equip and train Seventh-day Adventist physicians and dentists to be effective medical evangelists, which is our mission.

See, the AMEN Parent Organization will continue its core mission of AMEN through these annual conferences, through our journal, The Medical Evangelist, and through other initiatives that the Parent Board will implement.

AMEN Media, on the other hand, will provide you the tools through media to complement your efforts to advance medical evangelism in your professional setting, in your church and in your community.

After this presentation that I'm currently doing, we will introduce you to some of these tools that you may be able to use.

Well, what's our vision for AMEN Media and for Life and Health Network?

Well, we began on Galaxy 19 targeting a predominantly Adventist audience.
