Let God Do the Working

This is a blessing, and for me, a privilege.

I want to thank the organizers of Army Bible Camp simply for convening this occasion.

This is a blessing for all of us, and for me, thank you so kindly.

It's a privilege to be here, just a real blessing, to be among friends and to be a place where the Spirit of God is.

At a time like this we don't pray and ask God to send His Spirit to be in our midst.

We pray and thank God that He has sent His Spirit into our midst.

And I tell you what makes this an even more special privilege for me and especially for you.

There are some New Zealanders here today, where are you?

Yeah, I know, I can tell the difference between New Zealand and...

You know what I was really worried about?

You know you get these preaching assignments that are really difficult, really difficult.

I said, Army Bible Camp, that's not a hostile environment.

And then I arrive here last night and find out that the evening before I get up to speak, you all have been invited to an all-night prayer session.

So I'm just expecting, I can see this happening like clockwork.

I mean, happy you prayed, but how many went last night?

Every hand in the house, you're all there.

I don't know what to do if you all start falling asleep.

I know what we used to do, what we used to do when I was a church pastor.

We had this thing in case people fell asleep while I preached.

The church had been doing it long before I got there.

And there was a deacon who had this, back in the deacon's cupboard In the closet, in the foyer, they had a long stick with this kind of point on, not sharp, but a rounded, like a knob on the end.

And if someone fell asleep in church, you knew what was going to happen.

Old Joe the deacon, the head deacon, you'd see him get up and you'd go, oh, here it comes.

And me particularly, I mean, oh man, I'm thinking not this again.

And so when someone fell asleep, old Joe would go back to the closet and he'd get out this big long stick with the knob on the end and people would go, oh, here it comes.

And Joe would, he was a lovely man, but boy, you had to look out when he had the stick.

And he would bring the stick and walk all the way down.

And this is when someone fell asleep in church, and Joe would get the stick out of the deacon's closet, and he would walk right down the front of the church and jab the preacher.

Preaching after an all-night prayer meeting.

I hope you prayed for energy to stay awake.

I would just want to tell you about a couple of things we're doing at It Is Written.

What a fun 18 months This has been for me and my family.

And it has been a blessing to see how God continues to use ministries and organizations around this nation and around the world.

Hey, something I wanna tell you about, this is something I'd like you to get a hold of.

And that's our 1 minute daily devotional.

Someone told me even this morning that, wow, this thing is being consumed by a lot of people and shared everywhere.

It's a video devotional, 1 minute, and you might be thinking by the time the sermon is over, There's no way he can start something and get it finished in 1 minute, but I promise you I can.

And we take a verse of the Bible and apply it and show how it can be a blessing in your life.

And the neat thing about this is you watch it and you say, well, that's nice.

But then you post it on Facebook or you email it to someone.

It's a really, really simple and effective witnessing tool.

We had a guy who had a client who said to him, how is it that you're always so positive?

He said, well, as he prayed, he said, well, I like to start my day with a spiritual thought.

And he said, I like to start my day with a spiritual thought, why don't you try this?

The guy took the card, 2 weeks later he saw our friend, his whatever, and he said, I've been watching that every day, and God is changing my life.

You see, so you can share this with non-Christians, non-Adventists, non-church attenders, whatever you like.

So it's right on the front page of our website, and I hope you'll check it out.

And speaking of Facebooking it, I'm looking around and I'm saying, you know, by the time the day is over, we ought to have about 300 more Facebook followers.

So even if you're AT&T, I guess you're out of luck, but I hope you'll follow us on Facebook because what I have learned, what I have learned is that when people are involved in ministry, if there are people praying for what's going on, God's able to do great things.

We had a series of meetings in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier this year.

And you know, if you've never been, you haven't missed anything.

But if you go, go to Share Jesus because Las Vegas is as needy as anywhere.

And to see many, many, many people baptized.

And I spoke to a lady just last weekend who said, since the meeting, we've baptized many more people.

She said, I was trying to learn everybody's name who's joined the church, but it's just impossible.

You know, don't let anybody tell you that public evangelism isn't still an effective way to reach people for the kingdom of heaven.

When the Word of God is proclaimed, wonderful things happen.

Then we went to Loma Linda for 2 weeks and that was great.

And then we went to Paris, France for 2 weeks and I found out that when you say you're going to hold an evangelistic series in Chad or Mauritania or somewhere like that.

People say, oh, wow, man, I'll be praying for you.

But when you say we're going to Paris, France, they go, that's all.

But we needed prayer in Paris maybe more than anywhere we've been.

It's such a secular, secular, secular country.

So we held the meetings in various churches and where we weren't picked it up by the internet.

There we were preaching about Jesus in the secular country of France and we have people watching in Syria, Syria, and they were joining us from Saudi Arabia, man, and Tunisia, and Malaysia, more than 80 countries around the world.

And people were making decisions for Jesus all around the globe.

At the end of the series, a lady turned up we'd never seen her before.
