I is out of the Balkans and the health and I'm just very glad to be here as well he had a solid morning when in 's medicine bulletin this is in the first of the most inherent economic methods and I'm humbled they had this morning and I really been praying that the words this morning would be God 's words and not my own and so I just like to ask for your prayers as they see this morning that God would be speaking through me Idaho is an issue that is really blessed my life quite a bit through Tamil Nadu verse artwork got years so I'm really glad to be here and to be able to also look at arms apartment and a blessing and I would just like to us let us begin our time with God this morning Joe I think you so much for this you given us and for the opportunity to be here to worship you and to learn from your word and to see the example that just left for us and to know how we can find his footsteps but I suspect that this morning you did speak and that you would reach each one of us myself included in this message far and help us to leave here today with a renewed sense of your car in our lives and the importance of working for you and I falling you suggested just and heartless open our Bibles this morning to James chapter one verse twenty seven and when I chose the text for this morning I did not know that without laughing behind James coming up so that was not planned by me that was fun I got the James one verse twenty seven and I'll be reading throughout this morning in the King James version new hinges were this has to together see James one verse twenty seven the Bible says sure and undefiled religion before God and the father is this to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted world turned the father religion is that how you would've described a perfect relation visiting widows and orphans in their distress and keeping oneself unspotted from the world is not exactly what would come to my mind initially but I'd like to say that from the listeners that God has given me when you do that when you specifically the part about visiting widows and orphans in their distress every letter satisfaction now by talking about widows and orphans are not just talking about people that literally don't have parents or husband and wife were talking about the people that I really need in this world and I like to share a time in my life when God brought back to the forefront of my thinking I found when I lived in Mexico for about ten years as missionaries and we are at the evidence University very much Ross University and while we were living there for the most part of that time myself then and now they probably most of my brothers two brothers we were there we were over there is missionary kids but not necessarily involves very much in outreach that may differ between those of us that I wasn't really that much involving any outreach activities per se for most of that time and around two years before we left one day when Southland sitting in the universal church which was huge church and our campus and the pastor preached a sermon him us on 9/11 is the second assignment but I do remember all that he made for a small little service not far from the University that was dying this church was newly sustained by administered members that we come in from outside of that community and to the churchgoing but it wasn't really embedded into the community itself there were many members of the church that actually live in that community and at this point there had been the church visit have to be close because they were able to pay their bills and so that's all that in the sermon the pastor made a call for people to get involved and to come out and help provide this church and I felt called to do I thought that that would somehow the answers of something that is in my life at that point so I decide to respond and I started getting involved now the group of people that were going to this church were mainly families or couples and I was this going on on my own so becoming a part of the group was exactly easy either for that been accustomed to spending my fat afternoons just a home enough my family Navy is doing restful fatback is elected is not living a fairly glad I'm not involved in my binocular doors and things and this is something that the group was interested in doing so for the first and maybe a couple month as involved with it I appears as when the mornings went back on the news I really want to get involved and be on a mission as they call it in Spanish mission work in the afternoons fizzling to go back home and rest but after a while I started hearing what you know I should add it was more powerful from the point of view of feeling guilty than merely having a desire to God and in total installed but I started going on and it was a blessing God Douglas of that and I would I was to go with the church members to people 's homes and say the Bible and then and I was having access to me but it was it was something that that I enjoy even though it still wasn't my default position for John saw this by the next semester by continuing to search and by next semester a couple of friends are going with me and we would go in the afternoons to help me out in the associate on the holiness of the card says to you a wiry youth programming evenings and how we organize that and state the only problem was there weren't many years in the church so it wasn't exactly reaching the target audience and so my friend who is going with me had the idea instead of doing that there a lot of children in the community where we're going and so he has a idea starting a children's outreach program that meetings and so we decided that we stop this without a harness and instead started reaching out because the community and I first found it when we did that they were probably about twenty kids or more there showed up and it was really exciting it was like the new word spread that we are giving something away and all the kids want to come so it was really exciting we started out at the numbers and always stay the same it wasn't always that many but we continued going and continues yet that's exactly the next semester from that we continued on in our outreach and my friend decided that he will he felt called that we should do something to reach out to the poor in the community not just as of eleven and in the hometown were reliving and so we decided to go ahead and do that in that community going to Cisco 's we decided to start reaching out to people there and we also decided to formalize our Google of the more we know we came up with was my lesson in the case which in Spanish while in English means and serving Christ which convey the idea that you the service were giving to others we would be asked to serving Jesus saw one of the first people we start reaching out to was a alcoholic I lived near the church and his life is really and are causing one he had taken so much he wasn't very responsible his wife left him his kids got taken away from him and he was was really in trouble so we decide to start reaching out ten instead of just giving him money for whatever he thought he needed me decide to help them to learn to help himself and so we went and took flowers is not Potiphar 's house and had my giftgiving is something he could do that would often generates an income but that wouldn't be very labor-intensive so want help them grow flowers and how to do that and assessing the Bible in and out this could use a little while unfortunately after while he didn't decide that you want to continue that but we still had a desire to reach out to the community so another person that a couple weeks around the time we reached out to there were two older ladies in the community that we decided on help them with cleaning up their yard and in the house and one of them we discovered was a sick now she has been having some problems with breathing and respiratory problems using the doctor and had medication that wasn't helping so actually helps clean up your house that day in some of the church members decided to take it out of hospital and at this point we had been blessed by receiving some donations so were able to help cover the cost of some of her x-rays and medication and they gave her free Doctor and me she went home on the schedule for a follow-up visit punches emphasis on date of this happened now this is a really good for us because we find really helping somebody we gone helping hostas in trouble etc. the hospital she's being seen and it was great that she is a morning I was getting ready to go to the hospital to go be with her for her all of the Pharisees send shocking is instead about was late like how how can this be we just knew just helping her the other day how TV Guide was apparently somebody is founded on morning in her home she lived alone just on the ground that and it was a huge shock to us and I newly increase a sense of urgency we realize we're so the last people to interact with this lady before returning to ten Bethany was sealed and that was a sobering thought so they gave us a renewed sense of great urgency we were able to go over to the community go to her house where Franzen and Nazism is that neighbors were gathered and we relish are some words of encouragement and approach and pencil not often that out of that situation but it was still a very shocking way to start off anyways we decided we continued on in our outreach we would ride over there on Sunday mornings to do either community work help clean up to community or to the people in their homes and Henry the Bible it then we started taking food received donations of food in who take to these people we to the help of some dental students there we got started with a program for Don on collecting sack lunches that this year to see González they would always use the whole thing Vincent is wasted and so instead of that we decided to to collect benefits to the people well so they always continue to grow now this went on for about two years before like I said before he left Mexico the second year the project nearly peaked God bless in your able to do a free medical dental clinic for the people with the help of the University we also able to do some more community service projects and were able to reach out to people that we didn't know was how the opportunity to reach out to one person that we reach out to one day we were out visiting people and a lady called senescence I hang on you rather want to come visit and and so we went to his house and suddenly he was not mid- thirties maybe but was sick and couldn't really get out of bed very much out later on we found out through someone else with you that this latest call to us was a traditional healing of sorts so much like a witch doctor and I was like well that's weird I didn't expect that I guess during the mission field but it was a blessing to be it is these people and share the Bible at the and though not all of them necessarily need a firm decision for Jesus we did see evidences that God was working through us and chooses the chance to three thousand and so by the time that I was leaving Mexico in retrospect looking back over what happened how would I have known fact that one Sabbath in church when I made that decision to go and start helping out that small committee church that we would start up a ministry that would have a regular food distribution program have several Bible and study interests and would have over two years of semester long vacation Bible school for kids it was amazing and it just goes to show the power of a small decisions that they are not but now we know going back to incidents actually start off with James one twenty seven talks about visiting orphans and widows in their trouble and also keeping oneself unspotted from the world now this is what James was writing to the believers and think this is what your life should look like but I believe also that was an explanation of what Jesus is life look like when he was on this earth so how do we know whether just did this or not we can go to the Gospels so let's go to move the gospel of Luke chapter seven in verses eleven to fifteen and is a very concrete example of where Jesus reaches out to a window of mineral window select at a Luke seven verses eleven to fifteen again from the new King James version it says now it happened a day after that he went into the city called name and many of his disciples went with him and a large crowd and when he came near the gate of the city the whole of a dead man was being carried out the only son of his mother and she was a widow a large cross in the city was with her when the Lord saw her he had compassion on her and set her do not meet then he came and touched the open coffin and those who carried him stood still and he said young man I say to you arise so she who is dead set up and began to speak and he presented him to her mother is not known if there was ever a widow in trouble this was one she had a husband she just lost her only son she was really in trouble and Jesus came to her and helped her in a way that she could never imagine he healed person about impossible to make somebody from the dead Jesus did not I really like the description of this is found in the as always his book on the life of Christ and his cousin pages two seventy five inches seventy six was and what this says young that I sent to the rise that voice pierces the use of the dead the young man opens his eyes Jesus takes him by the hand and lifts them up just gaze falls upon her who is beneath the site and mother and son unite in a long cleaning joyous embrace he listed beside the sign mother at the gate of name watches with every morning one decided to cutest asked with sympathy for their grief Berkeley his heart that loves in pity the heart of unchangeable tenet and beautiful picture Jesus was reaching office lady because you monitoring you want to help all the many examples in the Gospels let's go to Matthew for verse twenty three to twenty four Matthew chapter four verses twenty three to twenty four and related against the house use is spending this time reaching out to needy people and helping so Matthew four twenty three to twenty four says I just went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people that his fame went throughout all Syria and they brought to him all things people who are afflicted with various diseases and torments and those were demon possessed epileptics and Paralympics and he healed them now is turn to Matthew eight versus sixty to seventy women noticed a repeating theme here not the eight versus sixty to seventy says when evening had come they brought to him many who were demon possessed and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying he and some authorities for our sicknesses now you must turn to Matthew chapter nine does it always is over verses thirty five to thirty six and again within this pattern the gym is going out and helping all these people that need help it says that Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people but when he saw the multitudes he was moved to compassion for the because they were weary and scattered like sheep having no shepherd so what did we just see about Jesus we see him working on behalf of people that were very great need which is like just what James told us we need to be during the meeting reaching out to those need help bin I can like I said Alden orphans and widows in the literal sense but they're all very needy and I like how in the ministry of healing it describes how this ties in with the lack of Jesus this is from page twenty four what a busy life she let talking about Jesus day by day he might have been seen entering the humble abodes of wanton sorrow speaking hope to the downcast and peace to the distressed gracious tenderhearted pitiful he went about lifting up the bowed down and comforting the sorrowful wherever he went to Terry Blessing imagines that that picture dissipated like was always constantly going out and reaching out to these people Ellis revocable Jesus was in the book of John Bruce one twenty nine it says the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world Judas was allowed of God it takes with the world and what were the characteristics of the sacrificial lambs in the Bible while I'm sure out many people now let's turn to Hebrews chapter nine verses thirteen to fourteen Hebrews nine verses thirteen to fourteen assess for if the blood of bulls and goats and ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God second is verse that uses described as being without spot in other words he was unspotted from the world like Jane said in March seven versus twenty twenty three we see just talking about those things that would defile us and that could cause us to be spotted from the world it says and he said what comes out of a man that the files in that for from within out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts adulteries fortifications murders thefts covetousness wickedness deceit lewdness and evil eye blasphemy pride foolishness all these evil things come from within and defile a man to think about that yesterday with this very long list of things that are all evil now perhaps some of those might strike you as more evil than others but I'm just look at a couple of those were he says consciousness lewdness pride foolishness are all evil these are things that would cause us to be spotted from the world following the Ring James not do we live our lives as if those things are all equal part of thing that will see if the problem is that we as young people oftentimes aren't even convinced that we should be keeping ourselves unspotted from the world this goes from me just as much as anybody else kids on our hearts many times we are attracted to the world meanwhile the world even though we might not say that but that's really what is going on to begin to answer the question of why she receive ourselves unspotted from the world let's turn to first John versus Sean Chuck H verses fifteen to sixteen many of you might know this by heart it says cannot love the world or the things in the world if anyone loves the world below the father is not in him for all that is in the world the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father but is of the world such dire scientists don't love the world because it's not of God and James back and look again to restart off in chapter four verse four seven even more uncertain terms he says adulterers and adulteresses you do not know that friendship with the world 's energy with God whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God that is pretty straight and then is the book of Romans Paul says because the carnal mind is enmity against God for it is not subject to love God nor indeed can be so then those who are in the flesh cannot please God and what is the carnal mind what is this this energy against God it needs to be at odds with God so loved the world goes right along with the enemies of God ever claiming that were Christians and love Jesus we love God how can we then at the same time the enemies of God it doesn't make sense now I want to read a quote from from something that I might note that is talking about the same context under the same the same concept says it is an alarming fact that the love of the world predominates in the minds of the young data sidedly love the world and the things that are in the world and for this very reason the love of God finds new and hearts of the first test of an adverse chapter is horny now and you're anything like me you might think that okay she just said a couple of things that might not fully make sense to me she says that below the world predominates in the in the lives of young people why the love God has no place there but yet you might be thinking while I'm a Christian and I love God and Yum I love the wealth of excellent gotcha well if that's really true let's just think about individually how we measure up to the following and again I'm saying this for all of us how how to discharge up to our experience this is what she said a couple pages over compare your course of life without a Viewmaster who made such a great sacrifice you might be saved he frequently spent the entire night upon the damp ground and agonizing prayer you are seeking your own pleasure listen to the vein frivolous conversation through the last digesting the joking in this imitating the pattern still listen is Jesus mentioned in the truth the theme of conversation are the speakers glorying in the cross of Christ after that tossed me that is not easy because oftentimes our highest joy or happiness is not in the cross of Christ is and whatever else comes online at the time now we try to say that we should be happy Christians not all because if we look at what Paul says in Ephesians chapter five verse four she says that they neither foot filthiness nor foolish talking nor of course jesting which are not fitting but rather giving of thanks I did not think don't be happy he's saying direct and not towards earthly things but towards the in the same chapter in verses seventeen to twenty he expounds on this theme and says therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the Lord is not and do not be drunk with wine in which is dissipation but be filled with the Spirit speaking to one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord giving thanks always for all things to God the father many of our Lord Jesus Christ said so I guess I said pausing to clear him we're not supposed to lifeless dad Monroe 's sad Christians that is not what he's saying he is saying that instead of being partaking in the deflation is really of the world we should be building each other up in God and seeing each other in songs and encouraging one another finale said we had this problem what is it that can actually save us from being like the world seems again to answer so let's go back to the book of James as we were wrapping up James chapter one verse twenty one James chapter one verse twenty one and it says therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word which is able to save yourselves the James is giving us the solution to the problem here he's saying the word of God in our hearts in our minds that is what is able to save us from all these other distractions in the world and I just like encouraging on I don't have time to go over it but when I read the great controversy about that I should change my life something that really appealed to me was the way that as you look at the life of the different Protestant reformers they had such a clear picture of the Bible they these immerse their minds in the word of God and it really it it made they put them on on a high intellectual point I have an analytical mind I like to think about things knees and whatnot and the Bible actually enabled then should be matchless in in their in their logic in their thoughts in their arguments for the word of God but now that is one thing to be attracted to the understanding of the Bible you have to actually see the highest and change our hearts so now I'm going on as we see that that James is said that in the Bible that is where we can find a solution to this problem of being like the world does not make us want to have the Bible is the foundation of our life to see it as the thing that moves us forward the guys that we do and and that gives us purpose now this is the same word that Jesus tasted like a pine he spent so much time studying the Bible and that is what and allow him to live the life the humans so this morning as he was wrapping up and look at a couple things from from the book of James James has these two themes of what Sharon undefiled religion is is to visit widows and orphans in their distress and to also keep oneself is far from the world and that involves sacrificing our time involves sacrificing effort resources to help people in need and is something that we saw that Jesus did in his own life the time he spent on this Earth it also involves not being contaminated by the world which is a high challenge Jesus wasn't designed by the world and the like as you lived and he's hauling us to live that family is even and again we've been shown in the Bible what the solution is to those things it's the word of God it's encouraging one another in Psalms and spiritual songs and hymns and this is what is being held out for us this morning I like to invite you all to make a decision with me right now don't get a razor hands but does engage in mind and think about what this verse really means it if the cause of perfect temps sure undefiled religion is something that is in the best of the best it cannot get better than that how would you like to decide to make about a focus to take up the challenge of finding those orphans and widows wherever they may be and reaching out to the nonsense ones not just twice the action as a way of life and that might mean involve it might involve spending time spending your whole life actually serving God in the mission field and from a foreign country it may mean going down the road of finding those people right here in Loma Linda hours on radio and reaching out to them not just once or twice but actually the consistent thing you know all the things I thought might seem like it's impossible to each of my seem to hyena like to do that I don't have the strength to the stamina to follow through something like that I don't have the inner purity to be like Jesus to actually not be confounded by the world you know in the book of Jude there is an awesome and amazing promise that God has given us that encourages us to know that she can make this a reality in our lives the strategy was twenty four and twenty five Judith has one chapter so the verses are twenty four and twenty five and it says now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy talk to God our Savior who alone is wise be glory and majesty dominion and power both now and forever and that's a decision this morning July thank you that this morning tolerances you have shown us what it means to have sure undefiled religion you have outlined to us than a means to not be selfishly focus on ourselves but to sacrifice and to reach out to those that are less fortunate are the consistently and life were not just as an event we do here there but it's something that we do as a part of who we are to you the also Lord call this to not be contented by the world and that is something that is impossible for us to do in our own strength letters are so thankful that you have promised us that you are able to keep us from stumbling you're able to present a faultless before your throne and let me just ask you to please break our hearts Lord help us to be humble and submitted to you and to be willing to let her basis of my throat is an media was brought audio nurse a website dedicated to spreading God 's word through
