Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together by praising him. I'm so glad for hymns and for the meaning that they have, and I'm glad that we get to learn this hymn together so that whenever you are at church and you hear it, you will be familiar with the song and you'll get to sing right along with them. Let's open with prayer asking Jesus to be with us. Dear Lord, we need your spirit today as we open the Bible and as we learn more about you, come into our hearts. Amen. Hello, boys and girls. I am so glad that you join me. We are starting a new story about Jesus this week, and so every day we're gonna have a different part of the story. Well, I wanna ask you a question. Do you have neighbors? Do they live close to you? Do you know their names? Some of you might live in a big building called an apartment building, and you might have neighbors all around you above and below and on either side. Some of you might live way out in the country and you don't see a neighbor from miles around. Well, Jesus talked about neighbors and we are going to discover what he meant when he said, neighbor, who is my neighbor? Have you ever memorized the 10 Commandments or do you know what they say? Will the last two commandments talk about our neighbors? Let's go ahead and let's read these two commandments and find out what it says. We're going to go to Exodus chapter 20, verse 16 and 17. So when you open your Bible, open it up to the second book of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus. We're going to be in Exodus chapter 20. Those are the big numbers in the Book of Exodus. You might have to flip the pages a little bit to get to Exodus chapter 20, and then we're going to find the little numbers that say verse 16 and 17. Go to Exodus chapter 20, verse 16 and 17. My son, Micah is going to read it for you. Go ahead and read along with him. You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbors. Was God just talking about people next door when he said not to lie about our neighbor or not to want anything that belongs to our neighbor? Of course not. He meant that we shouldn't do things like that to anyone. It's not just the person next door, it's anybody all around us. Well, when Jesus came to live with us as a human, he became like a brother to us all, and because God is his father, God is now our Father too. Isn't that exciting? I like to think of it this way. When I was a child, my parents did foster care. Do you know what that is? That's where we opened our home to children whose families were struggling, and so they would come and stay with us for a little while until their parents were able to get their things in order and the kids could go back home and live with them. Well, there came a point when two boys came to our home, they were six and eight, and after a while it was decided that they would be up for adoption. Now that means that somebody would become their new parents to help take care of them and to love them, to feed them, to take 'em to school, that type of thing. We went up before a judge and we promised that we would take care of these two boys. We signed a paper and then they were ours. They lived with us and nobody could take them away from us. They were now ours. I now had two brothers. Isn't that exciting? That is like what it is with Jesus. Jesus now is our brother, and God is now our father because of Jesus' sacrifice. Did Jesus just die for one person or did he die for the whole world? He died for the whole world, so that means that now every person is our brother or sister in Christ, so how should we treat them? Should we love and care about others no matter who they are or where they live? Yes, because Jesus is our example and he loves every person no matter who they are. He loves them even when they don't love him. Well, the Pharisees were a group of men who were kind of like the pastors for the Jewish people and they did not like the way Jesus treated everyone alike. They were assured that the Samaritans and the heathen who did not know God were not their neighbor, and they also thought that the Republicans, that's the text collectors for the Romans and sinners. Those were people who didn't obey the law and people who were poor and ignorant, that they weren't their neighbors either. They thought they were too good for these kind of people and that even if they were to touch them, it would be like touching someone with a disease. Ugh. Now, is that the way that Jesus wants us to look at others? Is that the way that he wants us to treat others? Well, who do you think was right? Do you think that the Pharisees were right to decide who they liked and who they didn't like? Or do you think Jesus was right? Who loves everyone no matter what they do, no matter who they are, no matter where they live or what they look like, Jesus loves everyone and he wants us to love everyone too. I have a challenge for you today. My challenge is that you will talk to your mom or your dad, your grandparents or a guardian, and that you'll ask them to help you go get to know your neighbor. Some of us don't know the names of our neighbors, and so one really good way that you can get to know your neighbor is if you take them a small gift. Maybe it's something that you made like a card or some stickers. Maybe it's some muffins or cookies or bread that you make, or maybe it's something that you get at the store that shows them I thought of you. Introduce yourself. Ask them their names and then ask them if you can pray for them or if they have any prayer requests. I know you will will be so blessed. Now, some of us might know our neighbor, they, you might know their name. Take some time this week to go spend time with your neighbor. I know that's what Jesus wants us to do and I wanna do that too. How about you? Let's close in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much for your Bible that shows us how we are to love others. Lord, give us the opportunity this week to take time with our neighbors. Help us to reach out to them, to love them, and to care for them. Help us to be like you and to follow your example and your teaching and your ways. We love you. Amen. All right. Now we're gonna go do our memory verse, so listen to the song, and this week we will practice our memory verse so that by the end of the week, you'll know it by heart. Shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, Lord, and with all your soul, and with all your and with all your mind and your neighbor as your You Shall love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your strength and with all your mind.
