Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together by praising him. John Newton was the writer of Amazing Grace. He was raised by his mother because his father was a ship captain and was gone for much of the year. His mother would teach him scripture and how to pray, and it was her goal and her desire that he would become a preacher. Well, unfortunately, she died when he was about seven years old. The more time he spent around all these evil influences, the more he became a careless and godless sailor on one of his voyages. It was a terrible storm, and during that storm, he realized that he was probably going to die, and he called on the name of the Lord. And you know what? From that point on, he lived his life in a different way. You know what ended up happening to John Newton? He became a pastor. He was such a zealous preacher, and he loved to preach at revivals to help people to turn back to God. Well, John Newton not only wrote Amazing Grace, but he also wrote other songs like How Sweet The Name. And Safely Through another week, John Newton ended up becoming a mighty man of God, all because he came in touch with his savior and realized what a sinful man he was. But what a great savior we have in Jesus. Let's learn this song together, Grace. How sweet. Let's open with prayer asking Jesus to be with us. Dear Lord, we need your spirit today as we open the Bible and as we learn more about you, come into our hearts. Amen. Hello, boys and girls. I am so glad that you are back with me today. We have an exciting news story that Jesus told, and we're gonna break it up over the next few times together so that we can really learn and really apply this story to us because you know when Jesus told stories, he didn't tell it just for the people that he was talking to. Oh, no. He told it for us, you and me. For anyone who opens the Bible and reads his words, have you ever played games where you choose sides? I know I've played games where you pick a team captain for each side, then those captains take turns picking people who they think will help their side win. You know, it's pretty neat when you're the first one who's picked, isn't it? But it sure doesn't feel so good when you're the last one who's picked. Let's pretend like you're playing ball and the side that you're on lost. If somebody asked your team, did you win? You would say, no, we lost. That means that you did not win the game. Well, we know that every one of us chooses to be on one side or another in a terrible war between Satan and Jesus. Satan and Jesus are the team captains. They're the ones who try to get as many people as they can on their side. Jesus is fair and honest. He would never try to force anyone to be on his side, but Satan tries all kinds of ways to get people on his side, and often he cheats too. Well. Have you ever wondered who's going to win in the end? Is Jesus going to win or is Satan gonna win? Guess what? Satan is going to lose. Those on his side are going to be lost, but those on Jesus side will be in heaven because they chose the right leader. I know I wanna choose Jesus and his side, don't you? Well, in the stories that Jesus told, he was helping people understand about being lost. He wanted them to know that he loves each person and that he wants each of us to be safe in his kingdom. If we are on his side, we will win. Isn't that exciting news? There's no guesswork, there's no going, Hmm, I wonder who's gonna win, or, I know I wanna be on the winning side, but which side is that? You can know beyond a shadow of a doubt who is going to win and the winner is going to be Jesus. Many people are like the lost sheep in the story that Jesus told. Remember last time we talked about the lost sheep and the lost coin? The sheep know that they're lost, but just like that, lost sheep, they are helpless by themselves. They can't stop obeying Satan's many temptations and neither can we. We all need Jesus, our good shepherd to help us. You know it. It reminds me of a story about a man. His wife and his children believed in Jesus, and they went to church and he always laughed at them and mocked them and said, huh, what kind of God would leave heaven to come for us? It just didn't make any sense to him. He could not figure it out, and because of that, he knew that he wanted nothing to do with Jesus. Well, one day his wife and children went to an evening program at their church, and while they were gone, the man was sitting in his cozy living room reading a book. There was a storm outside with lots of snow, and he didn't really think much about it. Well, all of a sudden he heard a thump and he looked around and he said, what was that? And he jumped up out of his chair and he went and peered out into the night. But you know what? He couldn't see anything. It was dark out and the snow was really coming down. Well, he figured it must just have been something. Maybe the wind blew something loose, so he went back and sat down. Well, after a little while, he started hearing something outside the door. He dashed to the door and opened it up, and there was a whole flock of geese, Canadian geese. They had become lost in the storm and they didn't know where to go, and because of the snow they couldn't fly, and they were blinded, and they were just stuck there in his farm yard. Well, he knew that if he didn't get them in the barn, they would freeze or their feet would become very hurt because of the cold in the snow. So you know what he did? He'd ran to the barn door, opened it up and said, come on, geese. Come on, come on. But did they trust him? No, they didn't. They didn't know what this strange man was trying to tell them. So then he tried to get around behind them and heard them in, and he kept trying and trying and they, they weren't going, and he knew that they might get injured very badly if they didn't go in the barn where it was safe. Finally, he stood there and he was like, oh, I wish I was a goose so that I could tell them to come in the barn that that's where it is safe. Oh, I wish I was a goose. And then it dawned on him, he realized that that's what Jesus did for us. We were stuck in this world, in the storms of life, and Jesus is the one who offers us a safe, warm place to be. The problem is we needed somebody to show us what was safe, and that's what Jesus did for us. The man realized that and he realized how much Jesus loved him and how much Jesus gave up just for him so that he could be safe, and he gave his life to Jesus right then and there. Jesus had told two stories. We looked at those the last time. These stories show that God is happy when people are sorry for their sins and when they let him help them, what did he say? At the end of each story, let's look up Luke chapter 15, verse seven, and then we're gonna look at verse 10. So go get your Bibles. We're gonna open it up to Luke. Luke is the third book in the New Testament. The Bible is divided into two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Once you find the New Testament, Luke is the third book, Matthew, mark, Luke. Luke is the third book. Then you're gonna find chapter 15. The chapters are the big numbers that you see in your Bible, so we're going to go to 15. If you get to a higher number than 15, then you've gone too far and you need to go back toward the beginning of the Bible. Not all the way, but just a little bit so that you can find chapter 15 verse seven. Look for those little numbers we're gonna find verse seven. Okay, Luke chapter 15, verse seven. What does that say? I'd say to you that likewise, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99. This persons need no repentance. What does it say will happen in heaven over one sinner who repents? There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99. Just people or people that do not need repentance. Wow, Jesus and the angels get excited and joyful when somebody repents and turns back to God, don't they? Well, let's look at verse 10. It's just a little bit further in the chapter. We just read seven and you'll see eight, nine. Now let's read 10. What does verse 10 say? Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. There is joy in the presence of what? The angels of God over one sinner who repents. Do you think that there is anyone who has done so many bad things that Jesus cannot forgive them? No. It does not matter what anyone has done. Jesus loves them and forgives them. If they are sorry for their sins and they want Jesus help, he can help them. He can help them change, but they have to want his help. I know I want Jesus to help me so that I don't get angry or lose my patience so that I can have love for others when I normally don't. How about you? Well, let's pray and ask Jesus to help us. Dear Heavenly Father, come into our hearts. I pray that you will forgive us, that you will come into our hearts and give us the power to say no to Satan and no to temptation, and that we will do what is right just like you did. We love you Jesus. Go with us today. Amen. All right. Today we have a new memory verse song. I am so excited about it and I hope you are too. The memory verse for this week is a very common one that most people know by heart, so you might already know it, but if not, we're gonna learn it together this week. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So if we confess, he will forgive. That's as easy as it is. Not only does he forgive us, but he cleanses us and washes us clean. I'm glad he did, aren't you? Well, let's learn this memory verse song together.
