Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together praising him. When we realize what Jesus has done for us, we will just want to sing of Him who died for us. We will want to hail him as our king. There is no other. There will never be any other in all eternity. Hi boys and girls. I'm glad that you're with me today. We are continuing the story about the gift that Jesus gave his disciples. And did you know that that gift is for you too? It is, but we're gonna find out more about that a little bit later. Let's pause and pray that Jesus will be in our hearts. Dear Lord, please send your spirit to help us to understand what we read. Give us patience, give us love. Give us your joy inside of our hearts. Amen. The disciples, we're telling a crowd of people about Jesus. And no matter what language the people in the crowd spoke, each person could understand. Have you ever been in a church where they offer translation? We had some friends that were visiting this last weekend and they said that in their church, the church services in English, but those who speak Spanish or have a hard time understanding English, wear a headset. There's somebody in the back that is listening to this sermon and then translates it into a microphone and the people can hear it in Spanish in their own language. Well, this was kind of like that except there were no electronics. There was not two people speaking. It was just one person. And as they would speak, the people heard it in their own language. Jesus had sent the Holy Spirit to give the disciples a special power. And what were the people's response to this? What did they think? They were amazed. They were like, what is happening? Why are these disciples of Jesus suddenly able to speak other languages? In fact, we can read about that in Acts chapter two. Acts chapter two. Acts chapter two, verse 11 and 12, Matthew, mark, Luke, John, acts, acts is right after John before Romans Acts chapter two. And then we're gonna read verse 11 and 12. Acts chapter two verses 11 and 12. Here's what it says, Preach and Arab. We hear them beginning in our own tongues, the wonderful works of God. So they were all amazed and perplexed saying to one another, whatever could this mean? They were so amazed. They were like, what is going on? How can this be? This is very strange. It was amazing. If you wanted to tell a Hebrew person about Jesus, you could suddenly talk to the person in perfect Hebrew. Wouldn't that be wonderful? I have gone many times on different mission trips to Africa. We went to Tanzania a couple times, and I've been to Ethiopia, and all the times that we went there, we had some kind of sermon series teaching people about Jesus. Well, one particular time that I went, I was in Ethiopia and I was the speaker. I went with share him, and I was giving the evangelistic series for hundreds of people who would come and listen. Well, they spoke a different language than me. I did not speak Amharic, and so I needed a translator. Now, what a translator would do is I would say a phrase or maybe a sentence or two, and then I would pause, and then my translator, who is standing next to me with a mic, would translate that into hark, into their language. And so as I would pause and wait for him to speak, then I would figure out what I was gonna say next. And then I would say something else in English, and then he would translate it into hark. And so we tag teamed, we worked together. That was not what was happening here at Pentecost. The disciples did not need somebody to speak or to translate. The Holy Spirit was the one doing it inside of them. Do you think that Satan liked what was happening? Oh, no. He got some people in the crowd to make fun of the disciples. They said, the disciples are drunk. Look at verse 13, acts chapter two, verse 13. Here's what it says. Acts chapter two, verse 13, Others mocking said They are full of new wine. They were trying to make sense of this. And they're like, well, if we don't really understand what's going on, this is very strange. And you know, people that do strange things are usually drunk, so they must be drunk, right? But that wasn't true. They had the Holy Spirit inside of them. Satan was trying to get people to just ignore it or to reason it away. But this was a miracle straight from heaven. Do you remember what a coward Peter was that night before Jesus died? He denied Jesus. But this time Peter wasn't a coward anymore. The Holy Spirit was telling Peter what to say to the people who were making fun of them. Peter told them that the disciples were not drunk. He reminded them that God had promised to send his Holy Spirit to help teach people about Jesus. This was the best way that everyone from all different languages that were there for Pentecost would be able to hear and know about Jesus. Look at verses 14 through 18. Acts chapter two, verses 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Acts chapter two, verses 14 through 18. This is what Peter was doing. This is what he was saying. You tell me if you think he was pretty bold for Jesus. But Peter, Dan up with the 11 raised his boy and said to them, men of Judah, all who dwell in jeru Jerusalem, let us be known to you and heed my words for these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it's only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel, and it shall come to pass in the last day, says, God, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy your young man. Men shall see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. And on my men's servant and on my maid servants, I will pour out my spirit in those days. And they shall preface that This whole section of the chapter is Peter sermon as he's talking to the people, as he's telling them that what they had done in killing Jesus was wrong, but Jesus could forgive them. Jesus told the people that the miracles Jesus had done proved he was the son of God. There was no question. Also, Peter said that even though Jesus had been crucified, he was alive again and he had gone back to heaven. Let's read verse 22, 32, and 33. All right, so we're gonna read 22, and then we're gonna skip to verse 32, and then we're gonna read verse 33. So Acts chapter two, verse 22, 32, and 33. This is what it says. Men of Israel hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through him in your midst. As you yourselves also know this Jesus God has raised up of which we are all witnesses. Therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this switch you now see in here. Wow. Was he bold or what? Was he afraid? Or was the Holy Spirit giving him power and helping him to be fearless even in front of people who had killed Jesus? Right? Was he bold or was he fearful? He was bold. The Holy Spirit was giving power to those disciples to help people learn about Jesus. Why was the Holy Spirit allowing the disciples or empowering the disciples to speak in tongues, to speak in many different languages? Why was it so that people could hear the gospel? There are many people today, boys and girls, who believe that the Holy Spirit can make them speak in tongues. And it's not a language that is understood, but rather it's just babbling. Do you think that that's the Holy Spirit helping them? I don't think so because why does the Holy Spirit allow or empower people to speak in tongues? Why is it so that the gospel can be told to people who otherwise would not have been able to hear it? God is very particular that when the Holy Spirit works in someone's life, it is to help them to tell others about Jesus. It is not just to give them power or just to help them to babble or to be different and special. It is for a specific reason to help people learn about Jesus. Did you know that Jesus wants to work in your life? He wants you to spread His gospel to others, and sometimes we're scared, aren't we? Sometimes we might be kinda like Peter, where, oh, you're a Christian. Well, no. Well, yeah, right? Jesus doesn't want us to be fearful when we have His spirit within us. We never have to be afraid, and we will have boldness that Peter had. I wanna pray for that boldness, don't you? Well, let's bow our heads and talk to Jesus. Lord, we wanna pray that your boldness will be inside of us. Fill us with your spirit. Help us to spread your good news to everyone around us. Thank you. Amen. What's our memory verse? Acts 2 38, repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Is the Holy Spirit something you can buy? No. It is a gift. It is given to us. And did you know that God wants to give it to us more than anything? He wants us to have the Holy Spirit in our hearts, so when we ask him, he will give it. Let's sing this song together. Acts 2 38, Repent, repent, and let every one of you be baptiz baptized in the name of Jesus, Jesus Christ, for the remain of sin. And youll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ sin, and youll receive the gift, the Spirit.
