Hello friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. When I think of surrender, I think the best example is Jesus. He was willing to give up heaven, the honor of billions of angels and being face to face with his father, just for us. He gave up or surrendered to the plan that he would die just for you. He said, not my will, but thy will. That is the ultimate surrender To Jesus. Surrender all. Let's say the books of the Old Testament together. See if you can say it with me. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, judges Ruth, first and second. Samuel. First and Second Kings. First and second Chronicles. Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Songo, Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Naam, Habak, Zaya, ha, Zacharia, Malachi. Hi, boys and girls. Do you like to have friends over? Yes, it's so much fun. You get to play. Sometimes you get to eat together. I mean, maybe even you've had family or friends stay with you overnight. Maybe when they were traveling or they came for a visit. That's always fun, isn't it? Well, Abraham had seen three strangers, not friends, but three strangers walking along and like talking together, not too far from his tent. And so he ran out there and he told them to come and he would feed them and take care of them. Was he being hospitable or friendly and kind to strangers and welcoming? Yes, he was. And pretty soon one of the strangers told him that something was gonna happen in their family. Do you remember what it was? Hmm? It had to do with Sarah. Yeah, she was gonna have a baby. We're gonna find out what happened as Abraham said goodbye to the strangers. But first, let's pray. Lord, send your spirit into our hearts to lead us and guide us and teach us your ways. Help us to put aside distractions and things that would get in the way of our relationship with you and help us to be able to focus on you for a few minutes today. In Jesus' name, amen. Abraham walked a short distance with his visitors as they left by now, he knew that one of 'em was God himself and that the other two were angels. Soon God told the two angels to go on ahead. He wanted to talk to Abraham alone. God had some pretty sad news for Abraham. First, he had given him happy news, right? Happy news that they were gonna have a baby, but now he was going to tell him some sad news. God told Abraham that Sodom, where lot and his family lived had become so terribly wicked that he was going to have to destroy it. Abraham was shocked. And guess what he started to do? He started to bargain with God. I love this part of the story, and I want you to read along with me in Genesis chapter 18 verses 23 through 33. That's quiet a few verses. Genesis chapter 18 verses 23 through 33. Here's what it says. And Abraham came near and said, would you also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were 50 righteous within the city, would you also destroy the place and not spare it for the 50 righteous that were in it far be it from you to do such a thing like this, to slay the righteous with the wicked so that the righteous should be as the wicked far be it from you shall not the judge of all the earth do right? Shall the Lord said, if I find in Sodom 50 righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake. Then Abraham answered and said, indeed, now I who am, but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose there are five less than 50 righteous, would you destroy all of the city for lack of five? So he said, if I find there are 45, I will not destroy it. And he spoke to him yet again and said, suppose there should be 40 found there. So he said, I will not do it for the sake of 40. Then he said, let not the Lord be angry and I will speak. Suppose 30 shall be found there. So he said, I will not do it if I find 30 there. Andy said, indeed. Now I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord. Suppose 20 should be found there. So he said, I will not destroy it for the sake of 20. Then he said, let not the Lord be angry and I will speak, but once more, suppose 10 should be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the sake of 10. So the Lord went his way As soon as he had finished speaking with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place. Did God scold Abraham for wanting to save Sodom? No, he didn't. He knew that Abraham didn't want to see Sodom destroyed and God didn't wanna see Sodom destroyed. You know, God doesn't like to hurt or destroy anyone, and neither should we. Well, as they were talking, as they were bargaining, the two angels arrived in Sodom. They walked in looking just like any ordinary regular person. When lot saw them, he knew that they were strangers. Now, lot had a habit of sitting out by the city gate close to dusk when those gates would close. And so when he saw these two strangers come into the city, he rushed right up to them just like his uncle Abraham had taught him to be polite, to be hospitable, to be friendly and caring. So that's what he did. He ran up to them and told them that they could come and stay in his house overnight. Wow, that's pretty neat that he wanted to invite them to his house and he had never met them before. They were strangers. Did the angels want to stay with lot? Well, they, they thanked him. They said, oh, thank you, thank you, but it's okay. We can, we can stay out here in the city park overnight. It's it's not too cold. It'll be fine. But lot knew that they would not be safe there. He insisted, and as he insisted, he was like, please, please just come. Oh, no, no, no, it's fine. No, come, come to my house. I have food. I have a place for you to stay. You'll, you'll like it there. It'll be better. Oh, oh, it's okay. Look at Genesis chapter 19 verse one through three. We just finished up Genesis chapter 18. Now we're on to Genesis chapter 19. Genesis chapter 19 verses one, two, and three. Now, the two angels came to Sodom in the evening. Ann Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom when lot saw them, he rose to meet them and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground. And he said, here, now my lord's please turn into your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise early and go on your way. And they said, no, but we will spend the night in the open square. But he insisted strongly. So they turned into him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast and baked lemon bread and they ate. Verse three says that he insisted strongly. He was really trying to persuade them to come and stay with him. And so that's what they did. They finally relented. They're like, okay, well come stay with you. And they did the discussion that lot and the angels, even though he didn't know they were angels, but the discussion that they had had ended up drawing some attention, unwanted attention. And after a little while, it wasn't very long that all of a sudden the men of Sodom showed up at his house and showed why Sodom was so wicked. They started beating on Lot's door and yelling for him to bring his visitors outside. Lot knew that this was not good. He knew that they, they wanted to hurt his visitors. And so he went out and he tried to reason with them. Remember, these are people that he, he does business with. These are friends in the neighborhood. These are his neighbors. These are people that he sees every day. And so he's like, if I go out there, I I'll be able to reason with them. So that's what he did. He went out to try to reason with them. But how did the men of Sodom react? They became angry. They threatened to break into his house. Now, those men had no idea that the visitors were angels from heaven. They, they had no clue and even lot didn't know that yet. But now he needed help. He was in trouble. The men of Sodom started to turn on him immediately. The angels that were inside opened the door, pulled lot in, and then they locked the door and made everybody in the crowd outside the door. They struck them all with blindness. Even then, those wicked men still, they were fumbling around trying to get into the house, but finally they gave up and they went home. That was a scary story, wasn't it? Do you think lot had been scared? I think so. And you know what's amazing is that it shows how wicked these men, his neighbors, his his friends in that city, how wicked it had become. Do you think that lot's choice, way back when Abraham gave him the option to stay in one area or to go to another area, do you think that his selfish choice to take the best land was a good choice in the long run? In the end, no, it wasn't. Boys and girls, we make choices each and every day. Those choices can be really little. Like, should I eat this extra candy or should I have one more dessert, or should I go to bed maybe just a little bit later? Or I, I'll just watch this one thing that I know I shouldn't, but, but it, it's not that big of a deal. Boys and girls. Those little choices end up leading to big consequences. The more sugar that we eat and we put in our bodies, the more diseases we can end up having. When we're older, the things that we choose to look at, if they're not things that God says is okay, it ends up hurting our brains, hurting our minds. It's like it makes our brain sick and it's hard to get better. It's not impossible, but it's very hard. Boys and girls, God wants to help us to make good choices. He wants to help us to be ready when he comes again. And those who choose to obey Jesus, those who choose to follow his rules, those who choose to take care of their bodies now and their minds and their brains now will be ready when he comes. I wanna be ready. How about you? Let's ask him to help us make good choices. Lord, come into our hearts and help us to make the right choices, to follow your happiness rules, to read your word, the Bible, and follow what it says that will take care of our bodies and be careful with what we put in our minds and the things that we see, things that we hear, the things that we do. Help us to keep you first in our lives. In Jesus' name, amen. Hebrews 13, two, do not forget, do not forget to entertain strangers for so some have unwittingly entertained. Do not forget.
