Hello friends. Welcome to the seed pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today. As we spend time with our friend, Jesus spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. Joseph Gilmore wrote down four Stans to this song and gave them to his wife. But little did he know? She secretly sent the poem to a religious paper, the Watchman and reflector in Boston. That's the name of it. They published it and without his knowledge, and one day, three years later, when he opened up a HYM book, he discovered his poem set to music. What that was such a shock, William Bradbury had seen the poem in the Watchman and reflector, and he went and wrote a tune for it and then published it. Wow, crazy story. But that's how we get the song. He leadeth me, He With and has gone. Well, welcome to the Bible. Tells me so a program sponsored by starting with Jesus. I'm miss Katie. Your host. Today. We have Micah to read our questions. Pastor Jonathan is with us to help us find the answer in our Bibles. And Aiden will read the Bible verse for us. Do you have your Bibles ready? If you don't, you might wanna go and get them so that we can find and read the answers together. Let's go ahead and get started. Our question today is from Micah. No, not my Micah who lives with me, but Micah who lives in Loma, Linda, California. He is seven years old. Aiden, what is Micah's question? How does Jesus talk to me? That's a great question. You know, when Jesus lived on this earth, people could talk to him face to face. Jesus called people by their name. He even sat down to eat a meal with them, but now that Jesus is in heaven, how does he talk to us? Do you have your Bible? I hope so. Let's turn to John chapter 16 versus 13 to 15. Okay. John chapter 16, John chapter 16, Matthew mark, Luke John. Those are the first four books in the new Testament or in John chapter 16. And now let's read versus 13, 14 and 15. What does that say? However, when he, the spirit of truth has come, he will guide you into all truth for, he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak and he will tell you things to come. He will glorify me for, he will take of what is mine and declare it to you. All things that her father has are mind. Therefore, I said that he will take of mine and declare it to you. Jesus told his friends that when he left this earth, he would send them the spirit of truth or the holy spirit who would take what Jesus has to say and speak to us. And so this happens several different ways. First, when we read or listen to the Bible, the holy spirit can speak to us through what we read or listen to. Hmm. The words written down a long time ago, touch our hearts in a special way. Yeah. And it seems like God wrote them just for us. Second. The holy spirit can speak to us when we pray. Sometimes you'll be praying and you will remember that you need to make things right with someone, or God will cause someone to pop into your mind whom he wants you to pray for third, the holy spirit can speak to us in our thoughts throughout the day. Perhaps you're thinking of telling a lie or taking something that doesn't belong to you, but then you start to feel bad about doing that thing. And you remember what God wants you to do instead. Well, that's the holy spirit trying to help you make good choices and forth. The holy spirit can speak to you through other people, especially your parents. Now, my parents aren't perfect, but many times they have said things to me that I needed to hear. And they helped me make good choices in my life. And fifth, the holy spirit can also speak to us through the beautiful things of nature in dreams that we have. And sometimes even through visions, which are like dreams you have when you're awake. Wow. And when the holy spirit is speaking to you, bringing thoughts to your mind and convicting your hearts, it's really Jesus speaking to you. Hmm. That's neat. Wow. There's lots of different ways that Jesus can speak to us and that he uses the holy spirit to be able to tell us what he wants us to do. That's pretty neat. I'm glad that you're joining me today. As we continue the story about the Gibeonites and they're trying to trick the Israelites into thinking that their ambassadors from a long ways away, but is it true? No, it's not. They live just a few days journey away, right? In the heart of the Canaanite territory, the area where the Israelites were going to be taking over, what's gonna happen. Are they gonna make friends? Hmm. We're gonna find out in just a few minutes, but first let's pray, Lord, it's a new day and we get to spend time with you. We pray for your love and your wisdom for your leading and guiding. Please direct our past and help us to turn to you when we need help. Or when we need understanding that you will help us in Jesus name. Amen. Joshua, his helpers had looked closely at the visitors. Were they lying? Were they telling the truth? They needed to be sure because God had warn them not to make friends with the people with the Canan Knights. Hmm. Well, the ambassadors had old and patched sandals on their feet. They had old garments on and their bread was dry and it was moldy. Ugh. I wouldn't want to eat that. And yeah, the wineskins were torn and it looked like they had been MedEd recently. And huh, what was, were these people? Were they just, what was going on that GI Knights were there to make a treaty or a covenant with the children of Israel? Do you remember how serious a covenant is? Each side? There's two sides each side, or I guess there could be more. They make a promise and they must keep this promise. Once they make it. Remember the children of Israel, they made a covenant with God at Mount Sinai. God had said, these are the 10 commandments. And I will bless you if you obey my commandments and the children of Israel promised to obey, but the people soon broke their covenant by doing what do you remember by worshiping the golden calf? Yes, you're right. They couldn't keep this promise on their own. They needed God's help. And God kept reminding them to believe and trust him completely. Totally. And that was the only way that they could keep their promise over and over. They promised to obey, but over and over, they didn't believe or trust God when they chose to trust God, he could do wonderful things for them when they didn't, Satan could end up hurting them as Joshua and his helpers listened carefully. They could tell that their visitors really knew a lot about what God had done for the Israelites. And the helpers carefully looked at the stale bread and the old wine skin look at verse seven. We're going to Joshua chapter nine, verse seven. And we're gonna see what Joshua said. You can tell that Joshua's a little leery. That means he's a little, oh, I don't know about this. Let's go to Joshua chapter nine. Verse seven. Joshua is right after due. Torono it's the sixth book in the Bible, starting at the old Testament in Genesis. It's the sixth book, Joshua chapter nine, verse seven. Let's see what that says. Joshua chapter nine, verse seven. I'm gonna read it for us. Then the men of Israel said to the highlights, perhaps you dwell among us. So how can we make a covenant with you? Do you hear that skepticism? Do you hear the, Hmm, maybe you live among us. How do we know you're not lying? Hmm. But then when you look at verse eight, you can see that these ambassadors completely skirted the issue. That means they didn't answer the question. They just kind of went around it. Verse eight, they said to Joshua, we are your servants. And Joshua said to them, who are you? And where do you come from? Huh? Josh was trying to figure this out. And it looks so obvious that they're from a, a distant country. But how does he know that they're telling the truth and look at, they haven't actually said the name of the country. Hmm. Well now let's skip down to Joshua chapter nine, verse 14, Joshua chapter nine, verse 14. And then the main of Israel took some of the provisions, but they did not ask the council of the Lord. There's a word right in the middle of this sentence. And it's the word. But, but they did not ask counsel of the Lord who could have told them right away, instantly what was going on God could have, right. They could have asked God and prayed to him and said, hold on just a minute. Let's go talk to God. Gone and talked to God and said, Lord, what is going on here? And God could have said, these guys live right here in Canan, but they didn't do that. Joshua and the elders of Israel, they did not consult God. They just started walking into this whole mess of making treaties and covenants without God's guidance. What should they have done? They should have asked God, have you ever done something without asking? And then gotten into trouble? Maybe you took something that you weren't supposed to. And then you got into trouble and maybe you drew on something that you weren't supposed to. And then you got into trouble because you didn't ask. Sometimes I throw things away without asking. And then I realized I should have done that. Yeah. We sometimes do things without asking permission and that can get us into a lot of trouble. And we're gonna find out what happened when Joshua and the Israelites decided to make this covenant with these people, with these ambassadors, that they really didn't even know the name of the country. We're gonna find out what happened next, but we'll learn about that next time. Let's bow our heads in prayer. Lord, help us to think before we act, help us to ask before we go and do things that we shouldn't, we need your wisdom. We need you to go with us today and to help us in our play in our work, in our school, in everything that we do, we need your help. So please be with us in Jesus name, amen To the Lord.
