Hello friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. This song, father Lead Me, day by Day, was originally called a Child's Prayer for Guidance. It was written by John Page Hops, who was born in 1834 in London, England. He went to the Baptist College in Lancaster. He became a minister ministering to different congregations in that general area. He was quite the writer and could be considered quite controversial. No's Red do pure. Show me what I do. Good. I oh's. Hi boys and girls, welcome back. We're continuing this story about Samuel and we're gonna learn about how Samuel grew up and the things that he did for God and his people, the children of Israel. But before we get started and we talk more about that, we're going to bow our heads in prayer before we get started with our devotional for today. Lord come into our hearts and help us to learn more about you. Help us to draw closer to you, and that this time spent with you will be the best part of our day in Jesus' name. Amen. After the Philistine sent the sacred arc back to Israel, it was in the home of a Levi for 20 years. 20 years. Do you know how long that is? Well, let's see. That is about half of my husband's age. So when he was 20 years old until now, that's about 20 years. And you know, actually come to think of it, that is about how long I have known him, almost 20 years. So it was a long time that it was in the home of this Levi family. All that time, the Philistines were still ruling over the Israelites. That's not good, is it? No. Well, remember how Eli had died? Yes. When he heard the news that the arc had been captured, he had been sitting there on a stool in the city gate and what had happened. He was so shocked, so sad that he fell over backwards and he fell on his neck and he broke his neck and he died. Well after that, Samuel, as he grew older, he traveled to many parts of the country visiting the people. Do you like to travel? I love to travel. It's a lot of fun to go around and visit and meet different people. So that's what Samuel was doing. He was traveling to these different parts of the country. He would talk to the people, he would encourage the people. He would do his best to show people that the reason for their problems, especially with the Philistines. The whole reason why was because they had not kept their promise to trust and to obey God. So let's go to First Samuel chapter seven, verse three. First Samuel, chapter seven, verse three. Let's look this up. We wanna see what Samuel was doing. So we're going to First Samuel. That's in the Old Testament. You have Joshua, judges Ruth, first Samuel, and then second Samuel, and then first kings and second kings. So we're going to first Samuel chapter seven, verse three. Let's see what that says. Then Samuel spoke to all the House of Israel saying, if you return to the Lord with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the and the aunt throws from among you and prepare your hearts for the Lord and serve Him only and he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines. Samuel is telling the people you need to turn away from your gods and fix your hearts on the Lord. Serve him only. Do you think that the people listened to Samuel? They did, yes. The people saw that Samuel was right, and so let's see what they did. Let's go to verse four. So first Samuel chapter seven, and now we'll read verse four. So the children of Israel put away the way the bales and the Astros and serve the Lord only. Isn't that great? They put away their idols. They served the Lord only. Do you think that that made Samuel happy? Yes. And it made him thankful. He was so excited the people were turning back to God. Now, he planned a big meeting, kinda like a revival or a camp meeting a time when everyone could come together. Look at verse five and verse six, verse five and verse six. And Samuel said, gather all Israel to Ms. Pa and I will pray to the Lord for you. So they gathered together and Ms. P drew water and poured it out before the Lord and they fasted that day and said, there we have sin against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel at npa. God's people were truly sorry for the terrible things that they had been doing to hurt him and their enemies were mocking God because they didn't think that God was powerful. But was it that God wasn't powerful or was it that his people were not following him? Yes, his people were not following him, and now they were finally choosing to be faithful to him again. Isn't that wonderful? The meeting was near the place where Eli's wicked sons had taken the sacred arc during a battle with the Philistines that had been 20 years before his sons had died there and the enemy had captured the sacred arc as the children of Israel are there camped in that same area. Were they planning to go to war? No, they weren't. Why were they there? It was so that Samuel could pray for them so that they could draw close to each other so that they could ask the Lord for forgiveness. And now as they're all there right near this battlefield, the Philistines got the idea that the Israelites were going to attack them. And so guess what happened? Well, let's see. Let's look at verse seven. Verse seven. So we're in First Samuel chapter seven, verse seven. Now, when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel had gathered together at Miz, the Lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines. Oh no, the Philistines are coming to battle against the Israelites. Were the Israelites prepared or ready? No, they weren't. They were at their mercy. And how are they feeling? Were they like, oh yay, here comes the Philistines. No, the Bible says that they were afraid of the Philistines. Now the children of Israel had a choice to make. Were they going to trust God even when it was scary, even when there was an army coming against them? Or were they going to be fearful and run away? What do you think is going to happen? Well, you'll have to come back next time and we will find out. You know, boys and girls, if someone had treated you like the Israelites had treated God where they were mean and they were ignoring God, would you have a hard time forgiving them or wanting to help that person? I would. But you know what's so wonderful about God is that he forgives us when we're truly sorry. When we are sad for the things that we've done and we want to change and we ask him for help, he always helps. He is faithful. Isn't that wonderful? Let's bow our heads in prayer, thanking him for his faithfulness. Lord, even when we mess up, you are still there. And we just thank you for that. Thank you for being there to help us, to forgive us for our sins, to give us the power to overcome and to do what is right. We pray that you'll be with us today. We have a new week ahead of us as we're starting this week, and we just pray that you will help us and be with us. Draw close to us and give us your strength and power. In Jesus' name, amen. Men. Our memory verse today, or this week I should say, is Proverbs three, six. Oftentimes you hear Proverbs three, five and six together, but we're just gonna memorize verse six and maybe you know both already. That's awesome. That's wonderful. Let's see. Proverbs three verse six says, in all your ways, that means in everything that you do, acknowledge him. So basically keeping God first in our mind and in our hearts in everything that we do. And He that's God shall direct your paths. God is going to lead us and guide us if we put him first in our lives. Isn't that encouraging? Proverb three verse six and and you away acknowledge him and he direct your paths. Bra receiver six and all it him shall direct and all TV shall direct your Listen up.
