God Used It. It Worked. You Try It.

The title you probably have is Are You Right or Righteous?

But I give it another title which is The Wrong Side of Right.

Or you may give it a second title The Wrong Side of Right.

A lady was living in a house on a lot owned by somebody else.

She was single, 3 children, between the ages of 5 and 1, and she was carrying a fourth 1, perhaps 6 or 7 months advanced.

She lost whatever source of income she had and the landlord gave her 1 month to come up with the rent.

She could not come up with the rent, had no family, had been deserted by her husband or the father of the children.

And the landlord went to the courts, exercised his legal rights and had her served with an eviction notice.

And when she lingered like a lot lingered before leaving Sodom, the man exercised his rights again and had the sheriff come and put all her possessions on the sidewalk and she and her children next to them.

She was taken to court for failure to pay, and the judge sat listening to the landlord make his case.

And the judge could find no fault with the landlord's case.

The woman was behind in her rent 3 months.

The fact that she had 3 little children and 1 on the way made not 1 whit of difference to the law.

He had exercised his right and there was nothing the judge could do.

And the judge found the woman guilty awarded the man sufficient damage which the judge himself paid and then took the woman into her house, his house to live in his basement which was fully furnished and unoccupied Why did the judge do that?

He was moved with sympathy for this woman who was wrong.

And he was brimful of dislike for the landlord who was right, but was the furthest man from being righteous.

There is an ocean of difference between being right and being righteous.

And this is the message I want to nail into all of our skulls tonight.

As we continue, are you right or righteous or the second choice as a subject the wrong side of right Genesis chapter 14 we shall read verses 1 through 9.

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Ariok king of Elessar, Keduleoma king of Elam and Tidal king of nations that these made war with Bera king of Sodom and with Bersha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admar and Shemiber king of Zeboim and the king of Bela which is Zoar.

All these were joined together in this veil of Sidim which is the salt sea.

12 years they served Kedroleoma and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

And in the fourteenth year came Kedro Leoma and the kings that were with him and smote the Rephaim in Ashtarothkar name and the Zuzim in Ham and the Emims in Shaveh Kirithaim and the Horites in the Mount Seir unto El Paran which is by the wilderness.

And they returned and came to En-Mishpat which is Kadesh and smote all the country of the Amalekites and also the Amorites that dwelt in Hazaz on Tamar.

And they went out the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admar and the king of Zoboam and the king of Bela the same is Zoar.

And they joined battle with them in the Vale of Sidim with Kedul-Eoma king of Elam and with Tidal king of nations and Amrethel king of Shina and Ariok king of Elisa, 4 kings with 5.

4 kings have come from the other side of the Euphrates River led by Keddo Leroma king of Elam.

Accompanying him was Amrifel king of Shina.

It's an ancient name for the land of Babylon.

Tidal king of nations and Ariok king of Elissa.

They are coming on a punitive campaign against 5 of the cities of the plains where Lot chose to live.

Sodom, Gomorrah, Admor, Zeboim, and Bela.

Obviously, probably before Abraham had gotten into Canaan these nations had conquered this part of the world and they had rebelled as conquered nations tend to do and perhaps ought to do.

So the nations returned to put down this rebellion.

And in verse 10 the Bible says now of Genesis 14, 11.

And the vale of Sidim was full of slime pits, and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there.

And they that remained fled to the mountains.

When the war began, the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah turned and ran.

Fled and they hid somewhere in this vast area of slime pits.

Verse 11 tells us, and they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and the victuals and went their way.

And they took Lot, Abraham's brother's son who dwelt in Sodom and his goods and departed.

Now a lot you know from Genesis chapter 13 had chosen to live next to Sodom.

It is a dangerous thing to get close to evil.

You may think you can keep your distance, but evil does 1 of 2 things.

Evil's philosophy is if the mountain won't go to you, you should go to the mountain.

When we draw near to evil and we grit our teeth and we make an effort not to go any closer then evil comes to us but evil first tries to draw us to it and so from chapter 13 we have Lot living in the plains chapter 14 he's in the city of Sodom verse 13 And there came 1 that had escaped and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were confederate with Abram.

Now Abram was living also in the land of Canaan because God had sent him there but Abraham had conducted himself in such a way that the surrounding nations respected him and regarded him as a leader in social cases and perhaps in military expeditions as well So 1 of the tribal leaders was Eshkol, another 1 was Eynur, another 1 was Mamre.

Abraham was living in the plain of Mamre, the Amorite.

The Bible says in verse 14, And when Abraham, Abram, he wasn't Abraham then, when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, notice he's not his nephew, it's his brother.

In spiritual matters, we're not sons and daughters or cousins and we are brothers and sisters.

So Lot now is not so much a nephew he is Abram's brother.

When Abram heard that his brother was taken captive he armed his trained servants born in his own house 318 and pursued them unto Dan.

Now Abram hears that a relative of his has been captured by Kerala Oma by Amrephel by tidal and by Ariok.

They have defeated Sodom Gomorrah Admas a boy Mandela the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah have fled.

1 man who escaped the battle knowing who lot was related to He comes to Abram and he tells Abram the sad news, your nephew who lived in Sodom has been captured.

And Abram arms his trained servants, goes in pursuit of these 4 armies combined.

We don't know how many there were but 4 armies combined must be many more than 318 which Abraham had.

But when you're on God's side you outnumber anyone else even if it's you and God and so Abram and the Bible says he pursued them unto damn and he divided himself against them he and his servants by night and smote them and pursued them unto Hobah which is on the left hand of Damascus verse 16 describes the total victory that Abraham won or Abram and he brought back what?

All the goods and also brought again his brother Lot and his goods and the women also and the people.

Abram recovers everything and just about everyone who was left alive.

When we fight under the banner of the righteousness of Christ, our victories are complete.

When the Israelites were fleeing across the Red Sea from Egyptian slavery at God's command.

When they got over the other side, the Egyptian army entered that pathway thinking they could cross on dry land.

God brought the waters back together, drowned them.

The Bible says not 1 Egyptian soldier escaped.

Meaning that if the Israelites had chosen to go back to Egypt, they would have chosen to go back not because the Egyptian army took them back, but because they themselves decided to go back.

Very often we blame the church for chasing us away.

This person said that and I left the church.

This person didn't like my shoe and I left the church.

Listen to me no 1 can tear you from the arms of Christ if you're determined to remain in the arms of Jesus Christ no 1 can pluck you from his hand that's what he said Abraham went in search of these men in pursuit to deliver a lot and when God delivers the righteous God's kindness is so overwhelming it splashes over all the others who are in the area of the righteous.

So Abraham did not only just bring back a lot, he brought back everybody else.

Is it a safe place to be when someone gets close to you?

You know how Potiphar was blessed because of Joseph?
