3. Fanaticism & the Latter Rain

I want to talk to you today about a few things.

1 of them is your contribution to the darkness.

If you know that you should be having this much Bible study in your life to prepare for Christ's coming, I think for many of us that the amount that we do is this much.

That is, we know we should study more, but we're not studying more.

I think that you know that you should be witnessing, but I think it's quite possible that you're not doing it.

And I could go on with quite a list like this, couldn't I?

The distance between what you know you should and what you do, that's your contribution to the darkness.

The distance between those 2 things is why in some ways you don't need any more sermons because you already know more than you're doing.

Does anyone follow what I'm trying to tell you?

In other words, you don't need something to tell you more to do, You just need to do more.

Maybe you could say that's the first thought.

I mean, they had precious truths that were so rare and important.

They were some of the only monotheists in the world, you know, the Jews.

They believed in 1 God and there was, paganism was all around them.

But the Jews kept their religion to themselves.

I don't mean they never talked to pagans.

They had quite a few pagans in their own society, and pagans were there right in Jerusalem.

Not only did they employ some pagans, but pagans were in charge of them too, because they were under the domination of Rome after Greece, which was after Persia, which was after Babylon, right?

So they were under domination for a long time.

When I say they kept the religion to themselves, I don't mean that they didn't have friends that weren't Jews.

I just mean they never talked about religion with them.

They could talk about business with a Roman, but they wouldn't talk about religion with him.

If you as a Seventh-day Adventist, I hope this doesn't apply to anyone here, If the only people that you talk to by social media, and that you hang out with, and that you're friends with, and that you know, and that you take an interest in when they get sick or when they have a hard time, if everyone in that category of people, if all of them are Adventist, that's terrible.

My, 1 of my friends, Don McIntosh, I think has been here to the UK at some point, and He's the 1 who performed the service when my wife and I got married a little over 10 years ago.

I remember Don once coming into the classroom late where I'd asked him to come teach my students a certain class.

He came about 10 minutes late And when he came into the class, he acted like he was itching all over.

And what he said as he came into the class is that it has been more than 3 hours since I've talked to a non-Adventist.

What he was trying to communicate is that he doesn't live to just talk to Adventists, and that when his experience is that narrowed, when it's that conscripted, so he's only talking to people who think a lot like he thinks, that made him feel uncomfortable with himself.

I know it wasn't just talk because I've been with Don a few times, both in Kansas and California, when we've been out in the public, like in a place of business, and people everywhere where I've been with him, they know him.

They greet him by name and he greets them.

Not like a man who doesn't have responsibilities.

He carries heavy responsibilities and he travels widely and he's always busy and he's a teacher.

But he does not allow his responsibilities to keep him out of the field, because we need to be in the field for our own spiritual well-being and for the benefit of the people in the world.

That they deserved it, like it would be terrible if we were like the Jews, that we rub shoulders with them, but we never talk about religion with them.

But it's related to the first 1, because the first 1 was, your contribution to the darkness is the difference between what you know and what you do.

Your contribution to the light is the harmony between the 2.

You don't have to know a whole lot to make a contribution to the light, but you sure have to do what you know.

And when you do what you know, that's a contribution to the light.

Now I want to move to a third point and it's the 1 that's the center of this message.

The message is about fanaticism and the latter rain.

Once upon a time in a land far, far away there lived a man named E.P.

I'm just gonna call him Brother Daniels, but I hope when I call him Brother Daniels that you'll not think of him as being the General Conference president that lived about 30 years after him.

Daniels lived in California and he was a gifted speaker.

I'm just curious, how many of you have already begun reading that handout that you have?

Is there anyone who doesn't have the handout?

So, ushers, if you see, if you hold your hands high, I bet you'll get 1.

In the back, I see about 3, way back there, so if there are any extra for them, please help them.

For example, I think you have right here on page 1, do you see the indentation that says you can talk well?

You can talk well in regard to parents training their children.

Your wife, whom I love and respect in the Lord, would make an excellent lecturer upon this subject, but your practice contradicts the excellent principles that you have presented.

When your customs are seen and your home life practice is revealed, the people become confused and disgusted.

Did he have good principles about how to raise children?

And he and his wife would make excellent lecturers on the topic of raising children, but their own children were not under, they didn't give any evidence of having been raised well, and they weren't raised well.

For example, Brother Daniel's son was so picky that his mom would prepare him food and he would refuse to eat it because it wasn't to his liking, and she was so indulgent that she would take it away and make him something else.

I don't know if you know anyone who's like this in the sense that their children give evidence of not being raised well.

Make it right with your children, but I'm not preaching about raising children right now, but E.P.

Daniels had a problem there, and it wasn't his only problem.

Do you know anyone like that, no good with money?
