A Leader after God’s Own Heart- Part 1

And when you look around, what is the problem of the world?

We may think that it is lack of water, lack of food, lack of many things.

But if you go and study the situation many times, it is lack of good leadership.

And we can apply this even in the church, even in any ministry or companies or organizations.

Say it, if the leaders, If the leadership is good, things will be good.

But if the leadership is bad, things will be bad as well.

And if you study the Bible, it is a trend.

The children of Israel, The kings, with good kings, what happened?

You see prosperity, you see progress, you see strength, and God will be glorified.

So the faith war, the condition of the people of God, depended on leaders.

It is quite amazing how this thing is happening.

It appears that God has decided to let, and this is because of the freedom of choice, to let the leaders influence the trend of any nation, the trend of any organization.

Of course, after sometimes, God is merciful, he's a merciful God, God will intervene.

But sometimes for decades, for years and years, you see destruction because of bad leadership give me some examples in the Bible in the Old Testament.

Manasseh, how many years of bad leadership?

There are many in the Bible, unfortunately, of bad example of leadership.

But there are also good examples of leadership.

And you see throughout the ages, you can see this.

Of a nation, country, or a continent, and you can see also in the church.

And even now, we can see, even in the local church, given a good leadership, church elders and good leadership, you see progress.

And poor leadership, you see declining of all the factors and all the things.

And I'm so happy that you have come and you have decided to attend this seminar so that we can learn together how to lead God's church, how to lead your ministries, how to lead even companies.

Some of you, you have your own companies, we are working.

It is just from different kinds, but we are all leaders.

So the first point that we are looking for here is that God is in need of a leader.

Napoleon said, there is no such thing as bad soldiers, only bad generals.

In his experience, he has seen that an army can be good or bad, depending on the leadership, on the general.

And the example that we have here, the example of Ezekiah, let's study this.

I like because what we are studying is a biblical leadership, a biblical leadership to be a leader after God's heart.

2 Chronicles chapter 29 and verse 6 and 7.

We can just read this together just to save time.

This is a summary of what the father of Ezekiah did to the people of God said for our fathers have trespassed and done evil in the eyes of the Lord our God they have forsaken him they have turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and turned their backs on him.

They have also shut up the doors of the vestibule, put out the lamps, and have not burned incense or offered burnt offerings in the holy place to God, to the God of Israel.

If you study this chapter 29, especially chapter 28, you saw the destruction by the King Hehas, the father of Ezekiel.

It was totally destroyed, and people were taken into captivity.

They were defeated by the enemies, total destruction.

And on top of that, they also shut up the doors of the vestibule.

That means shut up the doors of the temple and the lamp.

The system of offerings and what was set up was totally stopped.

So much so that people just, they were scattered.

The priesthood, they had no job and they instead they started probably taking part in worshipping idols.

That tells us how low the country, the nation became under the leadership of who?

The impact of bad leadership is just so, I mean, you cannot even describe it.

But now, this young man, Ezekiel, he decided in his heart.

Because he was already there when his father did all these things, he decided.

And that is hope, actually, for those who do not have good parents, role models.

It's not necessary that you have to follow if the parents are doing something that is not according to the will of God.

He is an example of a young man trained by a bad father.

He has decided to do exactly the opposite.

I think we just go to the Bible and study.

Sometimes this machine gives us a little problem.

We will see here, Sagon Chronicles, Chapter 29.

And we'll see what has happened in the life of this Ezekiah, a good leader.

We have already studied in chapter 29 and the summary of chapter 28 when there was a total apostasy.

But in verse 10 of chapter 29, are we together?

It said, Now, 2 Chronicles, chapter what, everybody?

Now, he said, it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.

So in his heart, he decided to do otherwise.

He decided to make a difference, to make a U-turn.

It is just easy just to follow the crowd, just to follow what is going on.

But a good leader is not just impressed by the crowd.

He's impressed by a cause, a good cause, to make a difference.

So Ezekiel decided to make a difference, and he started in his heart.

He said, Lord, I know what my father did.

He has destroyed the entire nation, but I am here now as a king.

Our greatest need, of course the Holy Spirit, but through leadership.

What is the real commodity is leadership, good leadership.

Leaders are all around the world, but The difference is good leadership and bad leadership.

And we are saying that this lack of good leadership can be an opportunity for us.

We can fill the vacuum as Christians, as leaders in God's church.

In different forms, and God will help us.

The triangle, we have it here, and we have done with the foundation.

And that is the difference between us and all of our leaders.

This morning again, Klaus talked about the difference between the entrepreneur out there and us.

When we have our extremity, that is God's opportunity.

We do all our best, we do whatever we can to make things happen, but we are not limited to what we can, because God can.

Now, we talked about following God, right?

For us to be a leader, we must follow God.

We must be a good follower, follower of God and of course, also in a team, a good leader is also a good follower.

Some people, they may think that they can always lead.

If they are not the leader they cannot function.

He knows how to lead and he knows also how to follow to work in a team.

When I was elected as a division president, I enter into my office of the office of the president and I kneel down.

I said, Lord, I am NOT the president of this division.

Just leave this division and I will just follow you.

God is the leader and we are following God.

So that we can receive instruction from God.

And through that instruction, we can be good leaders.

God will say, do this, don't do this, this is the way, don't take this way, that is the way for us to be excellent leaders.

So our relationship with God is so important.

I'm just summarizing what we have studied yesterday for the sake of maybe those who could not come yesterday, and also for us to refresh our understanding.

So our relationship with God is so critical, and we have to cultivate that through what?

Through prayer and through Bible study and also through listening to the voice of God through the voice of the Holy Spirit.

We need to be quiet to listen to the voice.

This world is a noisy world and we need to find that quiet time to listen to the voice of God.

And even in the middle of noisy we have to discipline ourselves to just to listen to tune to God's voice and to listen to that voice and we can do that through practice even if we are in a very noisy street, we can still listening to the voice of God.

That is the key to leadership, Christian leadership, biblical leadership.

It is the foundation here that is spirituality.

So we need to invest time, invest ourselves in studying the Bible and prayer.

Sometimes we think that, oh I'm spending a lot of time praying.

Because when we pray, we ask God to intervene.

I can tell you from experience that there are things what I told you yesterday, things that I would have never done without God's intervention.

So when God intervenes, God will do, God will show us the best way to do it.

In the past, there was this theory of management by objective.

I don't know if, I know some of you studied business.

It was very popular, but then little by little, we don't talk much about management by objective, MBO, management by objective.

And then through that, I said, okay, what about leadership by love?

I see that Jesus Christ, our leader, he led by law.

And that's why we are still following him now.

If you love, love the followers, love the team, love the leaders above you.

For Him to leave heaven and to come here and live for 33 years and a half in this dark and sinful world.

And I put also this leadership by love slash sacrifice.

Remember yesterday I talked about the selfishness is actually the destruction of good leadership.

Once a leader becomes selfish or self-centered, that means he is in his way to become a very bad leader because he's going to use his position just to benefit himself, just for himself.

It is other-centered, not self-centered, but other-centered.

Not himself but for over he lived according to the spirit of prophecy.

So sacrifice, love, that is the triangle, That is the line of the triangle.

We need to ask God to give us this love, because we cannot manufacture love, can we?

We are somehow, our default mode is selfishness.
