The Love of the Truth In the Age of Deceit

And if you have your Bibles, I want you to take it and turn with me to the book of Genesis.

And we're gonna look at Genesis, sorry, gotta find my note here too.

All right, Genesis chapter 4 and I want to look at verse 16.

We're going to use our Bibles a bit this afternoon.

Genesis chapter 4 and I want to look at verse 16.

You know the story of the fall, you know the story of Cain and Abel.

So, Cain leaves his father and his mother and he goes out and he establishes something totally different than his parents.

So just keep that in the back of your mind as we look at a few other texts here.

Let's look at verse 26, and somebody new appears on the scene, and that is Seth.

And as for Seth, to him also was a son born, and he named him Enosh.

And the word Lord in the King James here that I have, New King James, is actually capitalized, which means that they were calling on Yahweh or Jehovah, as we used to say it.

Jehovah sounds more majestic to me, but nobody really knows what it was pronounced like, Yahweh or Yahweh, maybe closer.

But they begin to call on the name of the Lord, which means that Cain left the presence of the Lord and went out and established his own dynasty.

Seth now starts his dynasty, if you please, but it started on the basis of calling on the name of the Lord.

And so, right from the early beginning, you have 2 different groups developing in the very infancy of the world.

Now, let's look, if you don't mind, at chapter 5, and I'd like to look at verse 29 and 30.

And this is Lamech, who lived 182 years, and he had a son, verse 29.

And he called this son Noah, saying, This 1 will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.

After he begot Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and had what?

Now I don't know how many sons and daughters you can have in 500 years, but I think you could have a lot.

And so you've got 500 sons and daughters and they're having babies.

So you can imagine that this clan is getting to be some pretty good sized proportions here because it's not just Lamech, because his father Methuselah has also been having kids.

And so there's all kinds of population going on here.

Most people don't think about Noah having a lot of brothers and sisters, do we?

Now, I want to look at Genesis chapter 6 verse 2.

A lot of people like to speculate about this verse, but I don't think there's a need to speculate about it.

At verse 2, that the sons of God, let's go back to verse 1.

Now it came to pass that when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men.

The sons of God and the daughters of men.

So the men are being contrasted to the sons of God, if you please, that they were beautiful and they took wives of themselves of all that they chose.

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great in the earth, and every intent and thought of His heart was only evil, what?

Now, this is easy to be misunderstood, and I hope I'm not going to be misunderstood.

But do you think that there were no beautiful daughters of Seth?

So what you really have is the dynasty or the generations of Seth, generation after generation, and you have the men here and They're they're just getting friendly with the descendants of Cain There's a lot that's maybe left unsaid here.

Maybe this is the first ecumenical movement.

I mean, after all, Cain did develop his own religion, did he not?

We know that's true because Nimrod picked it up from after the flood, from the Andalusian world, we think, and exported a lot of it, maybe they changed it, but Cain had his own thing, and they all maybe started saying to each other, you know, we're friends, we ought to be able to get along with each other.

And maybe they begin to have social events.

But in the process of that, the young men out of Seth's generation looked at the daughters of Cain and they said, you know, those women aren't ugly either.

And they said, we think that we like what we see.

My guess is that everybody was beautiful in those days.

The men were handsome, the women were lovely.

They were pretty close to the Creator's hand.

If you take the most handsome person, man in the world, and you take the most beautiful woman, there's no such thing, of course, of being the most of anything.

But if you could, in today's world, and you stood them beside Adam and Eve, you'd go, oh my, what's happened to the human race?

I mean, sin has done a number on all of us.

So what's going on here is that the sons of Seth begin to say to themselves, well, it'd be all right to intermarry with these folk.

I mean, you know, they like religion and we like religion and after all, they're lovely and so pretty soon they're marrying the daughters of Cain's generation.

But let me say something about beauty here.

And I hope I'm not going to again be misunderstood.

I just read in Acts of the Apostles, Ellen White's Acts of the Apostles, commenting on Acts of the Apostles scripture, that beauty is something that is fine to be desired.

We see beauty in the grass and the trees, we see beauty in gardens, we see beauty everywhere, but God created it.

By the way, for what it's worth, department, nobody, evolution can't explain beauty.

I mean, evolution is only supposed to be functional, has no interest in beauty.

I think it's very interesting at the end of the book of Job that God gives Job 10 more children, gives him 7 sons, perfect number, And he gives him 3 daughters.

And what does the Bible say about the 3 daughters?

There was no women like them in the land.

They were no doubt beautiful in physical, but they were also beautiful in character.

And I think that was God saying to Job, this is Jay Gallowmore's interpretation, so I'm gonna be hastened to understand that.

I think God was saying to Job, Job, I put you through a lot.

I put you through a lot of pain and suffering and I'm giving you these 3 daughters as my kiss to you.

I'm giving you that beauty in your daughters to ever remind you that I still love you.

Sometimes we men have difficulty that when you see something beautiful, you translate that it also has beautiful character.

And we don't equate that a rose might have thorns.

And some roses have more thorns than others.

So what I'm simply saying is that we can be deceived, that beauty can deceive.

It doesn't mean that beauty always deceives.

I mean, a woman sees a handsome man, she looks at him and...

But handsomeness doesn't always denote character.

So what you have going on in Seth's line is the first great apostasy.

And this apostasy was severe and terrible.

Because these folk that were brought into marriage from Cain did not necessarily have beauty of character or the same values.
