Just a Drink of Water

Heavenly Father, Lord, I thank you so much for the Sabbath day you've given us, Lord.

And first of all, Father, I'd like to ask that the words that are spoken here today would not be my words because I'm just a man and faulty.

But Lord, that you would speak through me, that people would not see myself, but that they would see you.

Well, first of all, before I start today, I would just like to say it's been such a blessing to work here at the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church.

You know, this church is something where when I bring people here to church service, I can be proud of bringing them here.

And you know, 1 of the things that's very important with Bible working is this.

When someone finds out what religion you're a part of, They always ask, well, which church do you come from?

Until I tell them, I say, I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian.

Number 1, they could say, oh, you're a Seventh-day Adventist.

Or they could say, oh, you're 1 of those.

In the town of Lansing, I have more and more been seeing people that say, you're a Seventh-day Adventist.

Your example that each church member leads or leaves with people here on every single day that you're out there in the workplace or mingling with people is extremely important with how they will hear the gospel message that the Word of God presents.

So I would like to thank you so very much for bringing the name Seventh-day Adventist Christian, not as something that's bad, but something that is good and appealing, amen?

Praise the Lord for this church here in Lansing.

You know, I did a chapel for the Glass School the other day, for the academy here, and they were all sitting here on the front row, and I asked them a question, and it caught them off guard.

I said, all right guys, how many of you think that being a Bible worker would be boring?

Now I think they were taken back a little bit, and they looked at me and I said, raise your hand if you think being a Bible worker would be boring.

Now I'm not going to tell you who or how many people raised their hands, but quite a few did.

I contemplated asking that same question here this morning, but I decided not to.

But some of these kids raised their hands, and I said, okay, let me show you that being an ambassador for Christ is never boring.

You know, I'm called a Bible worker, but in reality, each and every person in this congregation sitting here today is a Bible worker.

When you give a smile to somebody on the street, when you actually sit down in their home and you give them a Bible study, when you simply pray for somebody, you are a Bible worker.

So when I talk about Bible work here today, I'm not talking about my work, I am talking about whose work.

Yours, our work as a Seventh-day Adventist church.

You know, this isn't a church, this is a movement, right?

And you know, 1 thing I also love about this church is that there is always something that's going on.

And I think each and every 1 of us should be excited too.

But you know, 1 of the things that's extremely important when we share with other people is this.

Do you truly care about where he's going to spend eternity?

When you're talking with somebody, when you're knocking on somebody's door, they're not talking to you, but they can learn about where they can spend eternity in heaven from you.

You know, how did Jesus deal with people?

You know, even when he was on the cross, Turn to Luke 23, 34.

And he's hanging there on the cross and take a look at what he says.

Then said Jesus, he's hanging there on his cross, he's bleeding, he can barely get any air, and he says, father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Was he only talking to the Roman officers that day?

When somebody offends you, when somebody says that you're absolutely wrong because of what you believe, when somebody persecutes you, what should our attitude be?

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

You know, Jesus came here to earth, and he became our living water, right?

Now, I don't know about you guys, but every once in a while I'll take a look at the news if I feel like being depressed.

And I take a look at the news, and it seems like things are rushing by so fast, right?

It seems like life is going by at a mile a minute, it's really hard to stop, slow down, and spend time with Jesus.

There's so many people in this world that are thirsting for just a drink of who?

Take a look here, turn to Psalms chapter 23.

Psalms 23, the shepherd's psalm, and this is a passage that many of us are familiar with, but this is something that I would like to point out to you today.

You know, sometimes it pays to grow up in the sticks on a farm, because it shows you a little bit more of what the Bible means.

Psalms 23 and verse 1, it says, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

I do not have need of anything but Jesus.

Then in verse 2, this is the verse we want to focus on.

He says, he maketh me to lie down in green pastures.

Now how many of you have ever been around sheep before?

Did you know that when they're transporting sheep in the desert and they're herding them to the next location, that sheep can survive 2 or 3 days without a drink of water.

And as they're walking along the desert and they smell that little smell of water, guess what happens?

And they start running towards that water as fast as they can.

But did you know that if the water is gushing by at a mile a minute, the sheep will not drink that water.

They will die of thirst if the water is moving too fast.

They can be thirsting, they're about ready to die, but if that water is not still, they will look at it and eventually die.

So the shepherd, he has to get down on his knees and he has to make some rocks and put a dam into that river so that there is what?

With this world going on as fast as it is, where we can't get any peace out of anything, there is only 1 way that we can find still water.
