Study the Word

And Lord, I say thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

Lord, it's a blessing to speak out of your Word.

I do not take it for granted, nor do I take it lightly.

Oh Lord, we thank you for the Holy Spirit who is present.

Lord you said where 2 or 3 are gathered you are there in the midst and there are much more than 2 or 3 here so Lord we are over qualified for a blessing.

So Lord I say thank you Jesus for salvation through that name.

I must admit to you, I try to get fancy in preparing my sermon.

I try to use big words, try to impress you.

But God said, Alvin, it's just foolishness.

So the message I want to speak about today is very, very simple.

Now what I'm going to say, you probably know 99% of it.

It's a message that when I prepared it, I was really rebuked because I'm struggling.

I'll be honest with you, 1 of my struggles is waking up in the morning in devotion, studying the Bible.

But see, I know none of you struggle with studying the Bible.

But for me, I'm struggling, so pray for me.

So that's what I want to speak about today, the importance of studying the Bible.

What did Jesus rely on when he was tempted?

Luke chapter 4, I might get a little excited.

There's something about the Word of God when it gets inside of you.

Verse 1 and it says, Then Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness being tempted for 40 days by the devil and in those days he ate nothing and afterward when they had ended he was hungry and the devil said to him If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.

Here we have the great controversy, face to face.

The Bible just says that Jesus has just fasted for 40 days.

Could you imagine going 6 weeks without potluck?

Some of you would go crazy, lose your mind.

But Jesus went 40 days without veggie burger, 40 days without a drop to eat.

And now Satan comes and tempts him with appetite.

Appetite can get you in a whole heap of trouble.

Picked a fruit, ate it, sent it into the world.

Esau sold his birthright to his brother for a pot of lentils.

That's why we have the health message, amen?

But I want to know, when I studied this, I said it's Amazing how Jesus, what Jesus did to counter the enemy.

What did Jesus use as his line of defense?

Did Jesus say, oh, well, Satan, I don't think it's proper, even though I'm hungry, to change the stone into bread.

I don't think it's the right thing for me to do.

Did he rely on human words or did he rely on words of a higher power?

But Jesus answered him saying, it is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God.

Jesus realized that the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword.

David said, Thy word have I hid in my heart, talk about the mind, that I might not sin against thee.

Verse 5, Then the devil taking him up on a high mountain showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time and the devil said to him all this authority I will give you and their glory for this has been delivered to me and I give it to whomever I wish verse 7 therefore if you will worship before me all will be yours Satan now comes to Jesus with the temptation of worship understand something This is part of the 3 angels message.

Worship him that created the heavens and the earth, the seas and the fountains of water.

Then it goes on to say, if any man worship the beast and his image, the beast and his image and receive the mark of his name on his forehead or on his hand he shall drink of the wine of wrath of God." You know how it goes.

The beast and we have Jesus is going to come down to worship at the last day.

Are you gonna go to Sunday worship or keep the Sabbath?

Now as Satan on earth, he is trying to receive worship from Jesus.

See, the difference between Jesus and Satan is that Jesus receives worship by conviction.

How many of the angels did Satan deceive 1 half, right?

He works by deception He deceives but how does Jesus respond to the temptation does Jesus say?

Oh, I don't think it's proper for me to worship you at this moment I don't think it's right for me to worship you Satan.

How does Jesus respond to the temptation?

I love it the word verse 8 and Jesus answered and said to him get behind me Satan for it is written you shall worship the Lord your God, and him only you shall serve.

Now I can understand if you are sick and you're in the hospital and you can't study the Bible.
