3. To See Through God’s Eyes?

Let's go ahead and start with a word of prayer.

Our Father in heaven, once more we want to give you thanks for giving us the opportunity to meet and to discuss some issues that we think are important and we pray that if they are indeed important to you that you will make the weight of it a weighty matter for us too.

We ask that your Holy Spirit will guide us in our conversations this morning, our presentation, and also that you will guide our thoughts and our decisions as we make decisions for you.

Okay, everything is in the context of this big event that's going to be happening sometime soon.

Now, let's see, I see some people who were here yesterday, I see some people who were here yesterday.

I see some people who were not here yesterday.

The way it's done, we have some housekeeping that will kind of help to bring us up to date.

These are the topics that we'll be dealing with.

We dealt with yesterday, to catch the vision, acquire an aim, what would it take to do that, what would it take to aim high and spear no pains to reach God's mark?

In this session we'll be wanting to see through God's eyes.

Now here's a paraphrase of a very well-known text that you all would recognize from Proverbs 3, 5 to 7.

Trust in the Lord with everything that is in you, everything that is in you, and don't rely simply on your own insight, however great you may think that insight is.

Consciously let him strongly inference you in everything you think and do and he will make the way clear for you to follow.

Don't be wise in your own eyes, hold the Lord in utter reverence and respect and turn away from evil.

It is good for us to have a perspective on how God sees what's going on and how God sees the part that we play in this.

Yesterday we were looking at the primacy of God's will and today we'll just review the primacy of God's will.

In Jesus's life it was of prime importance, God's will, not only to know what it was but also to do it.

So what did he do in order to know God's will for him every day?

Yes, he spent hours in prayer asking God to direct his path for that day.

Now if the savior of the universe could spend time in prayer, asking God, asking his father to direct his steps that day, don't you think that that would be a useful exercise and enterprise?

And you know, I say useful, maybe it's just essential for us to do that, so that we will know God's will for that day.

So the suggestion here is that the primacy of God's will is, in fact, the prime issue, that we will know what God's will is and we would follow it, right?

And if he expects us to do his will, he is going to give us all that it takes for us to be able to accomplish that.

The next, we need to know God and know his will for ourselves, for you, for yourself, and me, for myself.

And it said, you read the scriptures, and you think in it, you find eternal life.

But this eternal life that you'll find there, it speaks of whom?

So to know God and Christ Jesus, whom he has sent.

So you don't want to make the mistake of flying the bicycle.

OK, those who weren't here yesterday, we had a little scenario of somebody trying.

But let's just say, you don't want to make this mistake of flying the bicycle to Miami when the purpose of the activity was also troubleshooting and perfection of the bicycle along the way.

Some people were asked to ride the bicycle, and what they did instead is they flew it down.

But ultimately, they failed in following the will of the CEO.

And we don't want to end up at the end and have failed to follow the will of the CEO.

So we need to know what God's will is and we need to follow it, right?

Okay, we also talked about the necessity of being obedient to God's revealed will.

Now, many times in my own experience, we have 3 sons.

And bringing up 3 sons, we have questions.

And I'm an academician, so I've had students.

I've had students, at least 1, 000 students, and they all have questions.

And I'm a physician, an academic physician working in hospitals, and what I did most of my day was answering questions.

Well, that's not a bad thing to answer questions, but then when we get an answer, if we know what God's will is, people ask, how do I know what God's will is?

Well, There are different ways of being able to approach that, and we're going to be getting to some of that towards the end of our seminar.

But needless to say, there are some things that we already can know about what God wants us to do.

And we'll be discussing that a little bit more.

Sometimes people say, don't ask a question that you don't want to know the answer to.

I have had, especially when it comes to the affairs of the heart, young people, this guy, he likes this girl, and da, da, da, da, da, da, right?

And then he comes and he asks the question, doctor, you think?

Well, can you mediate and kind of get, see if, well, yeah.

You ask, you get an answer, and then you say, well, no, that must have been wrong.

So, but why do we need to be obedient to God?

Well, because for many reasons, but I'm just going to list a few.

It's an act of respect and trust and faith.

If God is going to tell us this is what we ought to do, we do it because we trust him.

And we have confidence that what he says is meaningful, right?

So it's a matter of respect and trust and faith and to not obey, okay, is not just disobedience, It's actually lack of respect and lack of trust and lack of faith.

It's also a response to God's grace and his parenthood.

You know the Bible text, children obey your parents and the Lord for this is right.

4. To Put Prophets Before Profits?

Our Father in Heaven, once more as we get into this particular session, we ask that you please be with us in a very special way because of what we're going to be talking about.

We're going to be filtering everything, of course, through the eyes of the Bible, eyes of God, as he looks at what we're called to do.

This particular session, we're dealing with prophets, not profits.

And so we'll be dealing a little bit with business.

The first issue, the first issue is that we have to let the Holy Spirit do his work.

We must be willing and we must go ahead and do, allow the Holy Spirit to do his work in us, with us, around us.

And if the Holy Spirit is going to lead, Then my assumption is going to be that you believe too, if the Holy Spirit is going to lead, I will follow.

If the Holy Spirit is going to lead, We will follow, I will follow, you will follow.

Now, in our last session we were talking about what God sees.

Well, when the Son of Man comes, will he find me, will he find you faithful?

In this context and in the context of this workshop we're saying it means will he find me obedient to his will?

Will he find me doing the things that he said I should do?

Second, will he find me praying, you and me, praying for and working in humility for justice and loving mercy.

Now why would we ask, will he see me doing that?

What is this thing about justice and mercy?

He has shown thee, O man, O woman, O child, O...

It seems as though you don't remember it.

We used to do this thing called sword in hand.

"...He has shown me a man who is good, and how much the Lord requires of me, to do that to me, and to love me, and to be welcome with our God.

So when Jesus comes back, thank you very much, when Jesus comes back, will he find me faithful?

Humbly seeking justice for those who cannot seek it for themselves.

Being fair with those with whom I have to work and those who work for me and being merciful, loving mercy.

You know I was giving a talk somewhere sometime and somebody told me, doctor don't worry I love justice and I love mercy.

And he says, yeah, when somebody does me wrong, I want justice.

But you know, really it should be the other way around.

We should treat people fairly and we should be merciful to them.

But grace is not treating us fairly, okay?

Grace means that he's actually what we don't deserve.

The good that we don't deserve, he gives us, right?

When God takes an inventory of your life or my life and our relationships, now the question is what does he see?

Does he see us living the way he desires for us to live.

And you know, we come to a conference like this and a seminar like this and we might be inspired, we might say yes, yes, but you know, I have been to many, many different things that are very uplifting.

You know, we've been coming to GYC, my family and I, for many years.

And I tell you some of the most inspiring words you will hear right here in some of these halls and some of these lecture rooms.

And then somebody might remind you of something and you say, I used to know that.

How come I don't, I'm not, I'm not inclined in that direction anymore?

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we would like for some things to become indelible, more permanent.

And that means we have to let the Holy Spirit do his work to bring to our remembrance the things that are important such as God's will for us.

Seventh-day Adventist consecrated young people are collaborators with angels.

Here's the quote, there is no line of work, This is from education, I guess 127.

There is no line of work in which it is possible for the youth to receive greater benefit.

Ministry, ministry are God's helping hand.

Rather, they are the human agencies through whom the angels accomplish their mission.

Have you Have you thought about that for yourself?

You know, the image of angels for me is amazing.

I am sure I have seen an angel, but not, you know, the way it's, you know, depicted in, you know.

But I've seen these statues of angels, and some of the angels look kind of, you know, emaciated.

But that's not the picture that the Bible has for the powerful angels.

5. To Be a 21st Century Medical Missionary?

Can we start with a word of prayer please?

Loving Heavenly Father, once more we want to give you thanks for giving us the opportunity to meet together and to think about, to contemplate, and even to plan, to execute some new ideas and maybe just reconfirm some old ones.

We pray that you will guide us in this session, so that what we say and what we do will bring honor and glory to you.

Okay, we're going to be talking about the 21st century medical missionary.

Everything of course we're doing is filtered by our view of the time in which we live and in anticipation of that glorious second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Alright, so it's with this in mind we're going to be talking about the 21st century medical missionary.

Well, what would it take to be a 21st century medical missionary?

This is what we're going to be dealing with.

Well, first we need to see that God sees you and me in a very peculiar way, not necessarily the way that we see ourselves and especially if we're critical of ourselves we don't see ourselves this way.

He sees us as a new creation in him, 2nd Corinthians 5 17.

He sees us as reconciled in Christ, ambassadors of reconciliation, 2nd Corinthians 5 18 and 19.

He sees us as more than victors, more than conquerors, Romans 8 37.

He sees me and he sees you as having a heavenly calling, Hebrews 3 1.

He sees you and me as redesigned for good works.

Ephesians 2.10, He sees that you and I have been born again by the Holy Spirit, saved by grace, which is a gift, not by my performance and you aren't saved by your performance Ephesians 2 8 he sees us as beams and of light and joy sorry he sees that beams of light and joy bathe me and bade you some 97 11 He sees us as vessels of divine light, 2nd Corinthians 4 6, as radiators and reflectors of light wherever we go, Matthew 5 14, as co-heirs with Christ, Romans 8 17, as the salt of the earth, Matthew 5 13, chosen and called by God to produce fruit.

John 15 16 and he sees us as we were talking about in earlier sessions as fishers of men and women.

So I should say hello fishers of men and women.

Some of you weren't here earlier so you don't you don't respond to it but it's okay.

If you haven't been here before, I'll tell you what we're going to do.

We work here with partners, either twos or threes.

So this event, this activity is going to be a partner event.

You're going to turn to your partner and you're going to define what a medic missionary is.

How many of you found that easy to define?

So would someone like to share what your partner told you?

When you're finished, we have someone in front.

A person who loves Jesus, who wants to share 3 angels' message, and uses healing as a stepping stone to help physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, economically, But the main target is to preach Jesus.

So Amber was saying that it's more about holistic health.

And someone willing to sacrifice their own time and effort to help others.

All right, thank you very much for that contribution.

We have 1 here, she had her hands up, and then we have back here.

It was actually kind of hard to define because there's so many ways to define a medical missionary.

A medical missionary is someone who brings healing as much as they can with God's help to not only the physical, but spiritual and mental, and as much as possible.

Even the term medical missionary doesn't do it justice because a medical missionary, someone who does that, is serving and helping the entire person as a whole and leading them to Jesus.

Basically being 1 of God's tools to help God recreate humans as they were designed to be in the very beginning.

A medical missionary is someone who uses the principles found in physiology and hygiene and combines them to naturally heal those that are sick and then using that as an entering wedge, meeting whoever you meet, where they're at physically, and then helping to bring them back to health by the grace of God and using the principles that are taught to us by him using physiology and hygiene, and bringing them to a knowledge of the love of God that will compel them to want to serve him too.

Now it's getting kind of complex, isn't it?

So it's somebody who understand or who have found Jesus and who is living the life that Jesus expect him to live and pass it on to everybody so that they may be saved.

Now if we combine all of that, I guess we can write a book.

Now, you know, in today's day, we don't leave things to chance.

If I were to ask you to define nuclear physics, and you don't know anything about nuclear physics, what would you do?

I want you to look up on the internet, Safari, Bing, and Google, type in medical missionary and see what happens.

So I assume that most of you are looking on Google.

Some of you may have Safari if you have an iPhone or something with Safari.

6. To Take the Plunge?

Father in Heaven, We pray that you will be with us during this session, that your Holy Spirit will move in our hearts, our minds, so that we would take hold of this vision that you have placed in our hearts, that we will not ignore your call, that we will desire to know even better your will and to know you even better.

And that we'll apply at least some of the things that we have learned, not just in this seminar but in the entire GYC event.

Not only for our own well-being, but for those around us as well.

You know, sometimes when I was teaching, I would have students come and ask me at the beginning of a class, Doctor, what does it take to get an A in your class?

Well in the old days I used to have to tell people, then later on I decide, you know what I'll just do, I'll just put that in the syllabus.

Okay, if you want an A, this is what you have to do.

But some people would say, Doctor, I think I'll go for ABI think I'll go for ABI hope that none of you are thinking, With God, you'll go for a B.

You see, when we talk in classroom situations, I'm going to use that as a metaphor for this 1, The student counts the cost.

You know, yeah, well, I have these other things I want to do.

But when we talk about now salvation and being involved in the things of God, what will it take for us to take the plunge?

To say, I'm really, I really wanna do this, okay?

I really wanna be this way because, you know, we're not just human doings, we're human beings.

And we know that this is a process, okay?

But what will it take for you to take the plunge?

Think about it as we're going through and we talk about comprehensive health ministry.

This stuff that we do for everybody in the church calls us to abandon our human cultures.

Sometimes when I talk around the country, around the world, there's so much cultural overtone.

We do it this way because our culture does it that way.

We eat this way because our culture does it this way.

We have cultures from the larger society.

We have cultures in different parts of the country.

And in California, well, they don't do it at all.

So we have cultures and cultural overtones, but comprehensive health ministry calls us to abandon our human cultures and adopt a new culture and that culture is the culture of heaven.

That we live in the atmosphere of heaven while we are still on the physical earth.

When God wants to change the world, he doesn't send in tanks and missiles, instead he sends in the meek and the humble.

Which means we need to learn of Christ and be meek and humble as he says, right?

Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest and learn of me, right?

Doesn't send in tanks, instead he sends in meek and humble.

He doesn't use bombs and bullets, instead he uses kindness and compassion.

Don't You know it is the kindness of God that leads to repentance?

Compassion, To suffer with someone else and be moved by compassion to help.

Instead, he doles out forgiveness and love.

But don't ever confuse forgiveness and love for weakness.

There is no power on earth stronger than love?

But it's interesting in the personification issue, We don't hear God is justice, but he is.

What if Christians really believed the Bible?

What if Christians really love 1 another?

If you hear that they're giving away free lunch tomorrow and you're here and you didn't have a meal ticket but they're giving it away free.

How many of you immediately will think about your friend who doesn't have lunch even though you don't have lunch either?

You know what, this is the kind of stuff that God is calling us to do.

That we'll esteem 1 another as more important than us, okay, and that we love 1 another the way we naturally love ourselves.
