Treasure in Earthen Vessels

Hebrews chapter 1, God who at various times in various ways spoken time past to the fathers by the prophets has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom is appointed heir of all things, through whom which he made the worlds." So the message here to the Hebrews is that Jesus is God's message to us.

But not only is He God's message to us, it tells us in Hebrews chapter 1 that He is God Himself.

Look at verse 5, For to which of the angels did He say, Hebrews 1 verse 5, Did He ever say, You are My son, today I have begotten you.

And again, I will be to him a father and he to me shall be a son." But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, let all the angels of God worship Him.

A firstborn brought into the world, being begotten.

This does not mean that He did not exist before that time because he existed for a time immemorial, right?

From everlasting to everlasting thou art God.

But here he comes in this human form and What does he say about him?

Verse 8, but to the son he says, notice what he calls him, your throne, O God, is forever and ever a scepter of righteousness, is a scepter of your kingdom.

You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.

Therefore, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil more than all your companions." So he calls him what?

In some sense, he comes off his throne during the incarnation.

And he condescends to become part of the human race.

And you Lord, notice that, capital L-O-R-D, and it means Yahweh.

This is God, you Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth.

Again, saying the same thing, verse 2 said that He made the worlds.

They will grow old like a garment, like a cloak you will fold them up and they will be changed, but you are the same.

Your years will not fail." So this chapter 1 of Hebrews is saying that Christ is God.

But that's not what I want to study with you today, although it's good to remember that for our study today, because I want to look at Hebrews chapter 2 with you today.

And I just want to show you today that Christ, here's our 4 points up on the screen, that Christ identifies with us.

He comes into human form and He identifies for us.

And then the question is, will we identify with Him exactly and then, you know, and how will He continue to identify with us if we make that choice?

A lot of people talk about identity these days.

You know, I want to identify as this, I want to identify as that.

And here what we see in Hebrews chapter 1 and 2 is that God totally decided to identify with the human family.

When he came into the world, he said, sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you have prepared for me." So, you know, you have this little baby, Abidon, right?

And you already are identifying with Abidon.

I am Abidon's mother, he's with me, we are together.

And God said that about the human family.

And this is how I identify, behold, an unwed virgin shall conceive.

We read about that in the last couple of weeks.

We looked at Luke 1, we looked at Luke 2, remember these stories?

All based on the prophecies of Isaiah, behold a virgin conceive." Wow.

Virgin shall conceive and enter, you know, You know, God enters into humanity.

Both he who sanctifies those who are being sanctified are all of 1, for which reason he is not ashamed to call them what?

This is him identifying with us in humanity.

And so much then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, he likewise shared in the same, the same what?

That through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is the devil.

Look at verse 16, for he indeed does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to who?

Look at these are all very close intimate terms.

The seed of Abraham, the same flesh and blood, all of 1, brethren.

Then look at verse 17, look at this, therefore in all things he had to be made like his brethren.

In all things, all things made like his brethren." Look at this.

And you know, look at Hebrews chapter 4, verse 15.

We do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, But He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Sympathize with our infirmities, our weaknesses.

So this is why we're saying in Hebrews chapter 2, he totally does what?

That's what we should be talking about today, not what's under the tree.

But the fact that He came down, and this is who?

And He comes in the likeness of men, Hebrews 2, 7 says.

And in Romans chapter 8, verse 3, he came in the likeness of sinful human flesh.

Coming into the same genetic line, look at how White speaks about this, Adam was tempted by the enemy and he fell.

It was not indwelling sin that caused Adam to yield, for God made him pure and upright in his own image.

He was faultless as the angels before the throne.

There was in him no corrupt principles, no tendencies to evil, but when Christ came, " So now this is saying it's a little different than Adam.

When Christ came to meet the temptations of Satan, he bore the likeness of sinful flesh.

He's drawing a distinction between Adam And who?

It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man's nature, even when Adam stood in the innocence in Eden, in other words, before the fall.

The big word is prelapsarian, before sin, before the lapse.

But Jesus accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by 4, 000 years of sin.

Like every child of Adam, he accepted the results of working of the great law of what?

Heredity, So he comes within the genetic line of Abraham and all these people, right?

He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and to share our temptations.

Now, you usually sit on the front row, but that's okay.
