Canvassing - Smile

Our Father in heaven, I ask that you'll bless us as we talk about how to do the call porter work.

Give us wisdom and understanding and I ask in the name of Jesus, amen.

So I know 2 of you at least have done it some.

Not canvassing, but I've done door-to-door.

My dad did it for a little while and a couple years.

Okay, and then Michelle, have you done canvassing?

I know you have, but your name is, is it Jessica?

Han, I know that's your first name, but it sounds like a last name to me, so that's just how it's going to go, all right, for a while.

There are 4 things that are more important than any others when it comes to your productivity as canvassers.

I went over these yesterday briefly in the training of the GLOW project, but I'd like to give you a little statistics.

It looks to me like someone who gets these 4 things correct will sell at about 80% of their potential.

Whereas if you take the other 2, 000 things they could learn about how to sell books, it will only raise their sales about 20%.

It's a pretty significant idea, what I'm trying to say, is that the literature work, you might say it's complex, but it's not complex in such a way that you have to know so many things to do well.

There are 4 things that if you get them and do them and get them right, you'll do well.

Now, these numbers, of course, they vary some.

This would be for people who have medium to medium-high talent.

There are people who have low talent who could have more than a 20% increase even after they get these 4 things straight.

So from yesterday's afternoon, what was the first thing I taught you to do?

And this year, we decided not to sell junk food or trinkets, but to do something more lasting.

More Choices offers the latest information in healthful cooking and promotes a low-fat, low cholesterol diet recommended by the American Heart and Cancer Society.

This is what happens to people when they're, because you can't think about 2 things at once.

You can't think about smiling at the same time you're thinking about what you're saying.

So when you come to the door, you're thinking about smiling, but as you begin to talk, your smile just fades.

So, what I would have said yesterday, except it was just gonna be a 1 day experience, so it's not relevant, but here it's relevant, is you want to cultivate a cheerful disposition.

The devil has worked so hard to have men cultivate a cool disposition.

A Disposition is the way that your face relaxes when you're not thinking, and the way that you relate to news that is about neutral.

Have you ever known anyone who was a really kind person, but their face relaxed in a grimace, kind of like a sad or, I know someone like that, I'm thinking of right now, but I won't tell you her name.

And it's unfortunate, because she has such a precious heart.

She's so sweet and personable, but her face just relaxes like she's gonna get you.

What I'm teaching in this first point about smile is you want to smile, cultivate smiling when you're not canvassing so that your disposition changes and you have in your face thousands of muscles.

Okay, I don't know what I'm talking about.

You have thousands of facial expressions that are recognized on a subconscious level so that when you meet someone and you get a gut feeling like this person is spooky, That is your mind reading the face of someone else, these little facial expressions, and people read your face when you come to the door.

We'll talk more about other things they read besides cheerfulness, But when they read cheerfulness, it pulls down a prejudicial barrier.

People don't have enough cheer in their life and they want more.

And when they read on your face stress, well what do you reckon?

Do they have enough stress in their life?

In general, people are already satiated with stress.

You don't want to use your very biggest smile that you can manage as you come to the door.

You want a gentle, pleasant smile, because you need to have some room to react to what they have to say.

And when they say some things, you need to be able to brighten your face a little bit in reaction to what they're saying.

You know when people are talking to you and they say something you like, you tend to brighten up a little.

You need to be able to brighten a little bit from what you're smiling.

If you don't brighten, if you're already at your maximum smile, it looks fake.

It's not the big grin, it's the gentle smile.

All right, what was the second thing I taught you?

Let me just destroy the plastic on my books, and I'll use them for fake MAGA books.

Rodriguez, did we talk earlier about the fact that you should be sure to take that book when I handed it to you?

No, but didn't he take it very naturally?

You don't have to ask people to take a book.

The key to putting it in their hand is you hand it, if I'd handed it to your nose, you wouldn't have known quite what to do.

When you hand the book to the hand, the people take the book.

You put the book in the hand and they got it.

If you were at Walmart, and down in the back aisle, do you have Walmarts here in Los Angeles?

So you're in the back aisle and you find their soy yogurt.

Did you know they have soy yogurt at Walmart?

And you take that and you put it in your cart.
