Experiencing Revival Through United Prayer

Dear Lord, we thank you so much for the privilege of prayer.

And dear Lord, once again, I just pray that you would outpour your Spirit on us in a very special way.

And I ask, Lord, that you would take my heart, empty me of self, just fill me completely with your Spirit.

May it be not I, but Christ, seen, heard, and known.

A young man once asked his pastor, What will it take for us to experience Holy Ghost revival?

And the pastor said, if you want me to show you, I'm going to have to baptize you.

So they proceeded into the baptistry together.

The pastor puts his hand over the young man's nose and lowers him under the water.

Now the young man thought the pastor was going to raise him back up out of the water, but the pastor kept holding him there.

So the young man opens up his eyes, he looks through the water and looks into the eyes of the pastor and it looks like the pastor is determined to drown him.

But as he begins to struggle, the pastor tightens his grip on the young man and panic sets in And he begins to jerk violently to get free.

And at that time, the pastor quickly lifts him up out of the water.

And he shouts at the pastor and says, Pastor, what in the world do you mean by this?

And the pastor calmly said, When you are as desperate for revival as you are, as you were for that next breath of air, you will have revival.

I've read in a lot of different places that God will not send revival to His people until we are desperate for revival.

In a book called Revival, A People Saturated with God, The author Brian Edwards writes, God frequently brings his people to the point of desperation before he sends revival.

Only then will they learn that without me, you can do nothing.

And I ask you, are you desperate for revival?

You know, I've heard someone say that organizing 1 of these Bible camps, it's a lot of work.

It's like planning for 3 weddings at once.

I mean, you think about it, all the speakers you got to arrange for the transportation, fly them in, there's a lodging, there's registration, there's meals you have to take care of, and then there's the programming for each day.

This year we have 4 army Bible camps planned.

Do you think the leaders of this ministry are desperate for revival?

Do you know why we begin each morning with a season of united prayer?

It's because we're desperate for revival.

And We believe that if we come together to seek God's face, God will open up the windows of heaven and He will shower us with blessings.

Duke is a senior pastor of the Jefferson Baptist Church in Oregon.

And the motto is very simple, much prayer, much blessing.

Friends, what are you experiencing in your life?

What are you experiencing in your churches?

What do you believe God longs to do for us as people if we will seek Him in much prayer?

We're all familiar with this beautiful promise in 2 Chronicles 7 verse 14.

If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

We need healing in our marriages, healing in our homes, and healing in our churches.

You know, God doesn't say, if my man who is called by my name or if my woman who is called by my name, but if my people, God is calling His people to come together to pray, to seek His face.

I believe that if we want personal revival, and if we want revival in our churches, united prayer is necessary.

We can't have the revival that God longs to bless us with just by spending that one-on-one time with God in the prayer closet.

Yes, we need that time, but we also need to come together as God's people.

Edwin Orr, a Christian historian on revivals, has said, no great spiritual awakening has begun anywhere in the world apart from United Prayer.

Christians persistently praying for revival.

We want to spend much time during this four-day camp praying for revival.

So it was in the fall of 2009 that we had our first army Bible camp and Our first meeting Always begins at 7 in the morning.

Well a few of us got together and we said Why don't we have a prayer meeting before the 7 o'clock meeting?" And we all thought it was a good idea, but we thought that it's a little bit too early and that getting people out at 7 o'clock is hard enough.

But if we encourage them to come out even earlier, it may scare people away.

And so we thought maybe this wouldn't be a good idea.

And said, please come join us if you'd like to.

And The first morning we had 20 people show up.

The second morning we had over 40 people show up.

And by the third morning we had over 80 people show up.

And we just saw the Spirit of God move in a powerful way, in unexpected ways.

Hearts were being set free and hearts were being broken.

And we saw people weeping as the Spirit of God began to move.

The great revivalist Charles Finney has said, There can be no revival when Mr.

And we have seen this again and again where the Spirit of God begins to move and even grown men begin to weep.

Here at Army Bible Camp it's okay if men weep.

As we planned for our next Army Bible Camp, we said, you know what?

Prayer is so powerful, we need even more prayer.

Now we heard about the South Central Conference, which serves in the Tennessee, Kentucky area, about how when they would hold prayer summits, what they do is they contact the prayer warriors in their conference and bring them over and they have a prayer cover team that is on a rotating schedule spending time in a prayer room.

And we thought, hey, that's a great idea.

What if we had a prayer cover team that just was on a rotating schedule praying for the meetings, praying for the speakers, praying for everything going on?

So 1 month before our second ARMY Bible Camp in May of 2010, We sent out an email to the attendees who had registered saying, hey, we would like to have more prayer going on.

We would like to have a prayer cover team.

If you are interested, please let us know.

Well, on the first day of that next camp, we had 5 people that were excited about having this prayer cover team.

But the problem is, is these people also came to attend the seminars and we could not just have 5 people spending all their time in a prayer room.

We're like, in order to pull this off, we need about 20, 30 individuals committed to doing this.

But we knew that God wanted us to spend much time in prayer, so we got together again and we prayed about it and we said, God, what would you have us to do?

We decided to encourage everybody to show up in the morning for the 6.15 prayer meeting and then to spend 1 hour during the 4 days.

During the 4 day camp, just spend 1 hour in the prayer room.

And that way we have prayer constantly ascending to heaven during the 4 days.

Now The amazing thing is that on Sunday, which is when we had the testimonies, which is the highlight of Army Bible Camp.

By the way, that camp started on Thursday evening, and so therefore on Sunday is when we had the testimonies.

We were surprised that over 70% of the testimonies were about how God touched people's lives in the prayer room.

We saw so many answers to prayers, so many people being set free from addictions, lives being healed and marriages coming together.
