The Real Fast & Furious

I should say happy Sabbath to everybody except for Mark Jones, Abigail Andrews, Miguel Serrano, and I'm trying to think who else abandoned me this weekend.

So they're all my good friends and they were all supposed to be here.

1 of them decided to take a trip to Europe.

Somebody else I just texted him like, where you at Mark?

So I said, I told him I was gonna call him out.

So, but yes, it's good to be in the house of God.

Well, it's been, I think a number of months since I've been here.

In fact, when I was driving here, I don't know why, but when I was getting close to Loma Linda, I started to go over my sermon, and as I was going over my sermon, I sort of lost track of where I was driving to.

So I ended up in some ghetto of Loma Linda.

I want to apologize by calling it a ghetto, but I thought to myself, is this where Advent Hope is?

So I, you know, you realize there's so many parts to Loma Linda you never know about, right?

I know that God wants to minister to each and every 1 of us.

Let's bow our heads for a word of prayer and let's ask the Holy Spirit to bless us.

Father in heaven, we just thank you again for grace and mercy.

And Lord, we also thank you that you have each and every 1 of us here to hear the Word of God.

And so Lord, we pray the Spirit would minister to us and through us.

And God, by the time everyone leaves, we will know that you have spoken to us.

My nose is running a little bit, And the reason why is because every time I come home to, or I come to Orange County, I get to eat my mother's cooking.

And so my mom, as you can tell, is Indian.

And I grew up with the fusion of Indian food and Hispanic food.

And so I got the best of both worlds, amen?

So some of you Filipinos are like, what about us, right?

So every time I go to my mom's house, she has this amazing, delicious Indian food waiting for me.

And I don't eat much Indian food anywhere else, but when I come home, this is my mom's cooking.

But as soon as I start eating it, I'll tell you the truth, my nose starts running.

So I wanna apologize if you hear me just sort of sniffle or whatever.

But again, I know that God has a message for us.

Believe it or not, I used to hang out, back in my pre-Advent days, I used to hang out with this car crew.

And the name of this car crew was called Speed Quest.

And it was a group of people who actually drove import vehicles and they drove domestic vehicles.

And as you can tell, the theme of this crew was about getting faster and faster with our vehicles.

Sure enough, we would take these drives together.

You guys ever see those or hear those very annoying lowered vehicles that drive around midnight, right?

And it looks like there's some kind of Harley Davidson, and when you look outside, there's some Honda Civic with this huge exhaust pipe, right?

And it looks like, it sounds like it's going like 90 miles an hour, but it's only like 10 miles an hour because that's all it's capable of doing.

Well I used to hang out with a group of people that used to do those very things.

And as I said before, the name of the group was called Speed Quest.

And I drove, believe it or not, I drove a Toyota Corolla.

Now you may laugh, but anyone who's into racing knows that Corollas are sleeper vehicles.

And so what you do when you're about to go into a race, a street race, And by the way, I don't recommend this.

But this is what I did back in my foolish days.

Unfortunately, I wish I could say those foolish days are done.

I used to hang out with this crew, and we would go on these rides.

And sometimes, we'd get this guy that would pull up.

He's got maybe a lowered truck or a lowered import, and he would just rev his engines.

You guys know what I'm talking about, right?

Sometimes it's this sweet grandma that shows up, accidentally revs the engine, and you know it's on, right?

And so what happened 1 day is I was hanging out with this crew and all of a sudden this guy pulls up in this Dodge and he revs the engine.

Now I got my buddies with me and I'm thinking, okay, now is the time.

He revved the engine and instantly I revved the engine back.

Now, I have a guy who was sitting in my car.

Anyone who knows anything about street racing knows this.

In order to go faster, it's not just about increasing horsepower, you actually have to remove weight from the vehicle.

And so you're getting rid of the spare tire, you're getting rid of sometimes the back seat, you're trying to lessen the load of the vehicle so that you can move faster.

Sure enough, I had done this with my Toyota Corolla.

I had made some upgrades to it, some aftermarket parts that were part of it.

However, that day, I decided to give my friend a ride who happens to be 300 pounds and 6 foot 6.

And as soon as he revved his car, the person next to me, I revved my engine and my friend says, it's time to go, It's time to go.

The green light hit, and we both took off, OK?

And the guy, he was right up with me, and all of a sudden, he's passing me up, OK?

And my friend says, you've got to catch him.

I said to him, you're the reason why I'm not getting faster here.

Literally, I felt like throwing him out of the car so that we could catch up.

Well, anyways, what happened is as we were racing, this is my first street race right here, all of a sudden there was this car right in front of us that had stopped.

And I saw it and we were just going so fast.

And as I was riding along the bike lane, I was trying to catch up to that guy.

I got to the street, and we were head to head.

And all of a sudden, I don't know what he did, he shifted gears and he started passing me.
