Where is He?

Our Father and our God, Lord, we thank you for having us all in this place this morning.

Now is your opportunity to reach your children.

And we just thank you in advance for the work that you are here to do.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray.

I was talking to a good friend of mine who has preached here as well.

And he told me, he said, Trey, it's a special place.

When you get in there, you're gonna feel those young people have a true love for the Lord.

So I'm hoping to get a little bit of what you guys have this morning.

He's 18 now and I'm trying to figure out how that works, you know, as a parent.

So after service, maybe you guys can give me some Some tips on that.

You know, I was reading online about this mother who had just had a baby.

And the baby was about 6 months old, and they lived in Philadelphia.

All of a sudden, the mother begins to smell smoke.

She could hear the crackling of the flames.

She had very little time to think, to move, to decide.

She frantically jumps up and tries to run out the room to find her daughter, her newborn, 6 week old baby in the other room.

But the fire was so aggressive, it was so powerful, she was not able to make it to her daughter's room.

All she could do was climb out of the window and hope that the fire department would show up in time to save her child.

Can you imagine the despair, the panic, the anxiety that this mom must have felt knowing that her child was still inside?

Her newborn baby was still inside and there was nothing that she could do.

So the fire department shows up and they're spraying down the home, trying to put out this fire.

And slowly the fire chief walks over to the mom and he says, sorry, Your daughter didn't make it.

And the mom, this is where the mom would normally try to come to some sort of acceptance of the truth, but Something inside this mom said, it's impossible.

She said, are you sure that She was dead?

And the chief said, well, the fire was so bad that we really are sort of assuming because we really weren't able to determine she was there.

So She's like, so you don't know that she was dead.

Well, possibly, but it's just hard to tell.

The mom, for the next 6 years, she had this thing in her head, people telling her, I'm sorry about your daughter.

The fire chief was not absolutely clear it was her daughter.

So in her mind, she's thinking, I just don't believe that my daughter is dead.

Year after year, she's going around the neighborhood, she's putting up, have you seen someone?

Maybe somebody came in and stole my daughter and set the house on fire.

They didn't find her there, and in my heart, I don't think she was inside.

So as far as I'm concerned, I'm gonna keep looking for my child.

Have you ever felt like you lost your child?

Have you ever been in a theme park, right?

Or something like that, and you lost sight of your child, especially when they're young, you know that panic that sets in?

There's a panic that happens when you can't place eyes on a child.

There's an anxiety, there's this nervousness, and it will not go away until you see them.

6 years later, she's attending a co-worker's birthday party for her child.

And she looks across the room, and she sees someone that looks exactly like her daughter.

I can't explain it, but there's something in your face That resembles my child that resembles me Sure enough It was her daughter Aaliyah Aaliyah indeed was kidnapped and the mom knew that She knew that she knew that her daughter was alive.

If the mom could look so desperately for her child, night and day, knocking on doors, Making phone calls, talking to anybody that can listen.

How much more is your father looking for you?

I love the text that we get to talk about this morning.

And it comes from the book of 2 Samuel chapter 9.

We are going to 2 Samuel chapter 9, and I'm gonna take it from the very beginning.

I had to practice saying that name before I got up here.

So I want you to go there with me as we visit the text.

Title of our sermon today is, Where is he?

David asked, is there anyone still left in the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?

Now there was a servant of Saul's household named Ziba.

They summoned him to appear before David.

The king asked, is there no 1 still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God's kindness?" Ziba answered the king, "'There is still a son of Jonathan.

He is lame on both feet.' "'Where is he?' the king asked.

Ziba answered, "'He is at the house of Machir, son of Amiel in Lodabar.' So the king had him brought from Lodabar, from the house of Mechir, son of Amiel.

When Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.

Beginning, Middle and End

We had a we had a high what I call a high day in Zion this morning.

I felt like the Holy Spirit was in the room and the enemy was angry and upset and defeated this morning.

And so I would like to continue with you guys this afternoon, more of a study format, but nonetheless we are going to go to the word of God and see what he has to say to us.

This evening, what I would love to talk to you guys about is the power of prayer.

Can anybody use a little bit more power in your prayers?

So I want to spend a few moments having this conversation with you today.

Our Father and our God, Lord, we just wanna thank you so much for allowing us to come back into your presence today.

Lord, thank you for worship this morning and thank you for the Mills, the Potlucks, the fellowship.

And now Lord, we want to go to your word and hear more from you in regards to prayer and what it means to connect with you.

We thank you for your grace and your mercy.

I want you to imagine that you have a bank account and it has millions and millions of dollars in it.

And for whatever reason, you just have never accessed the money.

I mean, there's repairs that could be done at home, and You could probably use a new car maybe, or you could put your kids through school, or maybe there's some health challenges that money could actually solve some of those problems.

And you have access to all of those things, you have all the funds that are there, but you never actually use it.

We serve a God that is not only capable, He's able, he's willing.

The challenge is most of us fail to access the power.

Most of us tend to minimize the power, It becomes a formality, it becomes routine.

But very often, you'll find that when we pray, it's devoid of true faith, true power, and expectation.

Imagine going to God for something that you need in full expectation that it will be done.

How would you pray then if you knew all you had to do was ask?

So today we want to spend a few moments discussing what a powerful prayer looks like.

We want to unlock God's power through prayer.

And so Ephesians chapter 1 verse 19 says this, the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, the same power he used to raise Christ from the dead.

That same resurrection power lives in us.

The same power that brought back our Lord and Savior from the grave is the same power that you and I have access to.

I love how Sister White puts it in Desire of Ages.

It says that the soul that is yielded to Christ becomes his own fortress, which he holds in a revolted world.

The soul that is yielded to Christ becomes his own fortress.

And so the spirit of God, first and foremost, has to live in you.

We have to believe that God is inside of us.

We are not talking to a God that is far away, a God that cannot be accessed.

We have the same access to that same Holy Spirit that told our Lord and Savior to get up out of the ground is the same Holy Spirit that says Ask me What is it that you need it resides in you?

So the first thing that we should do is recognize that the power is already in you.

When you ask God for the Holy Spirit, I know I like to ask for the Holy Spirit, Lord, give me your power.

Jesus told the disciples, pray for the Holy Spirit.

So we first must ask God, fill me with this Holy Spirit.

What is the spirit capable of doing inside me?

It's capable of raising our Lord and save you from the ground It's the same power that created this world in 6 days It's the same power that called Lazarus out of a cave It's the same power that healed the sick and raised the dead.

And all he is saying is, I want to place that power in you.

And all you need to do is ask God, fill me with the Holy Spirit, so that now when I pray, I'm walking around, this electricity is flowing through me, and people will start to come to you.

People will start to come to you and say, hey, Can you pray for me?

Because I've been praying and nothing's happening.

You know, I talk to God and, you know, and I don't think he hears me.

I think it hits the ceiling and it comes back down.

Because when you pray, filled with the Holy Spirit, the same power, that power, that thousand-volt power that changes things, things happen.

So God is first trying to get us to understand that this is something that we can possess and is at the ready, at the command, but you got to ask for it.

And then your prayer life will start to change.

Now you will preach from a place of expectation.

Say amen if you understand what I'm saying to you.

So the first thing is, God, fill me with your Holy Spirit.

I want you to craft my prayers and create my prayers in such a way that things happen.

I had a friend of mine who had just moved into a new house, and he said, Trey, every time I walk into this room, the TV turns on by itself.

It just comes on and I'm not using the remote, I don't have a timer on it, but it's really scary because it just comes on in the middle of the night or it during the day and I just I think there might be something in this house and I need you to would you mind praying for me and I'm in my mind I'm like you know okay yeah I mean you know it might still happen after I pray but yeah, I'm willing to pray for you You know, I wanted to you know I mean, I just didn't want him to feel like if I prayed it it was gonna write my faith was small.

I said, okay So we go upstairs into the room where the television is.

And I'm like, okay, Lord, he's asking me, I know it's not on me, but he's asking me, so please, when I pray, if you don't mind fixing this, right, I want you to get the glory out of this thing.

And sure enough, sure enough, sure enough, he calls me, Trey, ever since you came over to my house and you prayed, the television has not come back on, not 1 time, not 1 time.

So guys, you are walking conduits of the Holy Spirit.

So people should be coming to you saying, pray for me.

My mom's in the hospital, my dad's sick, would you mind praying for me?

And understand who gets the glory, can you say amen?

The Bible says in all your ways acknowledge who?
