Now here's your host, Joe Reeves, with Inverse.

Hello, my name is Joe, and welcome to Inverse, back to our amazing Bible study.

And it's going to be very amazing this time.

We are studying the resurrection of Jesus.

We've been studying other world religions this season.

And I have my friends back with me today.

Very glad to have you here, Paul, and part of this Bible study, Felicia, and also Sebastian.

Yes, we are here and we have our Bibles and you can follow along.

You know, our Bible study guides this Season have quotes from history, plenty of the younger, and Josephus and others in this chapter.

And you can dive deep as you read there in the scriptures and from history during apologetics.

All of our programs are at hope tv.org forward slash inverse and you can look at our past seasons.

But we're going to go right into the resurrection, the resurrection of Jesus as we study today.

Gracious Father in heaven, Lord, we thank you for your word.

We thank you that out of it flows life and life eternal.

We pray today that you will be our teacher, that your spirit will be present with us.

We thank you all these things in Jesus' name, amen.

You know, we read from this passage here in John 20, that's where we'll start in John 20.

This sets Jesus apart from everybody else, doesn't it?

Whether it's Buddha, Muhammad, any other philosopher anywhere, none of them raised from the grave.

And so the detractors of Christianity, to attempt to dismantle Christianity, the skeptics start with the resurrection because if the resurrection is sure, then Christianity is sure.

And Paul says that himself in his letter to the Corinthians, which we might look at later.

But John testifies about the resurrection.

Now the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early while it was still dark and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Then She ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, they have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.

Peter therefore went out and the other disciple and were going to the tomb.

The other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.

And he stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there, yet he did not go in.

Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb, and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.

Then the other disciple who came to the tomb first went in also, and he saw and believed.

For as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.

There's sorrow, there's hopelessness, there's darkness, a little confusion and chaos.

Felicia, can you tell us a little bit about this woman and why she's here?

Demons cast out of her has had a lot of...

You know, she doesn't seem to be the ideal candidate to be the 1 of the first persons to share this message.

Okay, just for those of us that are sheltered, can you tell us a little bit?

I mean, there are a few stories in the Bible of demons, but what does this look like when somebody has demons that have inhabited them?

Yeah, you know, so my family is from Haiti and there is a lot of voodoo and demon worship and so forth and sometimes you get exposed to that.

People being totally controlled by demons is not a pretty sight.

It doesn't always mean that demon manifestation is ugly because it can come in different forms, but this is not a beautiful sight for someone to be possessed by 1 demon, let alone 7 times, Either 7 times or 7 demons that she's had.

So Jesus has rescued her from a very desperate situation.

So if you've been around that, you have your own stories, right?

People who are demon possessed get thrown into the fire.

There's multiple voices coming out of them.

There's also- This is not the kind of person that people are attracted to.

I've been around a number of demon possession cases.

They were terrified by those that were demon possessed.

So this is the kind of person that's outcast, is the kind of person that people avoid.

And Jesus chooses her as the first witness to the resurrection.

And what's interesting in this story is, because a lot of times when people are skeptical about the resurrection, we can think, oh, why don't you believe this?

People believe that he stole the body away, but the disciples don't even believe that he is resurrected from the dead at first, right?

And this is after Jesus has told them multiple times, I'm going to Jerusalem, I will be betrayed, I'll be put to death, I'm going to resurrect.

And Mary, when she stoops in and she sees that the tomb is empty, comes to a logical conclusion.

But right in the next 2 verses, that thought is taken away.

Because when Peter comes in, he sees the linen cloth lying by themselves.
