Your Field: Fill the Earth

I want to say a special word of thanks to Oleg.

This is the first time we're meeting in person.

Adventist Frontier Missions, I joined AFM 21 years ago, and as part of our training, we do a survival weekend.

And I'm not gonna give too much details about that, but we're indebted to you to continue our partnership with you for part of AFM missionary training.

So lovely, the first time we're seeing each other in person.

He is always on Zoom somewhere in the world.

All right, so, I have to make a confession.

I've got about 3 hours of material I'd like to share with you in the next 7 minutes.

So, I'm gonna do my very, very best, and I'm gonna need your help.

Remember, we're talking about your faith, your family, and your field, okay?

And today I'm gonna put you to work right away, because I've had that in mind every single time, and then I get to talking too much, and then we get to compromise your time in the Word, okay?

We're going to divide you into 2 groups today, and we're going to look at… This group here is going to look at Genesis chapter 12 verse 1, 2, and 3, okay?

And this group here is going to look at Matthew chapter 28 verse 18 to 20, okay?

Now, I want to just tell you something ahead of time, and that is I believe that Genesis chapter 12, I mean Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 through 29, Genesis chapter 12, verse 1 to 3, and Matthew chapter 28, verse 18 to 20 are all the same thing.

It's the creation commission, the Abrahamic commission, and the great commission, and then there's 1 more.

There's something called the apocalyptic commission, and that would be where?

And I want to suggest that Revelation 14, 6 to 12 is actually the end version of what God introduces in Genesis chapter 1, verse 26 to 29.

In the end, it's the same thing as the beginning, okay?

So I wanna give you a chance to just look at these 2 passages quickly.

You're gonna talk to somebody around you.

Genesis chapter 12 verse 1 to 3, and then you're going to be looking at Matthew chapter 28, 18 to 20 on this side, okay?

I want you to read the passage with 2 or 3 other people, and then retell the passage, and then when you get to reflecting on it, I want you to ask this question.

What is this passage telling me about my faith, my family, and my field.

And then I'm gonna ask you to talk to me.

Discuss this and listen to what the Word is saying.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have an apology to make to you.

I started wandering around listening to the incredible exegesis that was happening in the groups and I got lost track of time.

Now I want to ask you, did you have a great sermon?

Here's the thing that's so exciting to me.

I believe that preachers' responsibility is to get the members into the word.

I wish we had an hour and a half to debrief.

Okay, so I'm going to ask for 1 volunteer from this group.

Raise your hand and we're gonna, I want you to share insights that you and your group had on.

Come running around, raise your hand nice and high.

And then we'll do 1 from this group, 1 from this group, and 1 from that group.

And as I say, I wish we could hear from all of you.

I have found when I do this, that I learn things from passages that I have preached from for years that I've never thought of myself.

Because the Spirit of God, speaking through the people of God, brings different facets to His character than any 1 person can come up with.

So we saw Abraham as a type of Christ who had to leave his father's house and go to a new place to be blessed, where some people would curse, and God would curse them, and if they blessed him, God would bless them, and all the nations of the earth would be blessed through Him.

Brilliant, okay, so here we see the promise that's presented in Genesis chapter 1 that's given to us as humankind.

God says, I want you to be made in my image and likeness." We see that Jesus is the 1 that gives that promise, and then Abraham is called out, and Jesus is the 1 interacting with him, and this is actually a foreshadowing of himself.

So both of you are going to get to say something, okay?

So going with the theme, right, of creation.

Then He showed his home, right, just like with Eden, right, for his family, his immediate family.

And then he was blessed to all families of the world.

I want to just make this point because we're going to run out of time and I have to make this point.

Okay, as Adventists, as we read Revelation chapter 14 and this whole idea of come out of Babylon, we're like, this is an end time message.

I want to say it's not an end time message, it's an all time message.

Out of, he actually literally lived in Babylon.

And he's saying, I want you to get out of Babylon and I want you to follow me.

This is like a, this is like a, this, so here's, listen carefully.
