Now here's your host, Joe Reeves, with Inverse.

We're glad that you are joining us for a new season, Growing in a Relationship with God.

This is a Bible study with friends and with you.

We have here at the table some excellent Bible scholars, teachers, students, friends.

You were a big blessing for us last season.

And you know, this table is kind of like the table of the United Nations.

Got Paul, who comes from an Indian background, a pastor in Georgia.

Representing the Asian side of the world.

And so many different, not only national backgrounds, but types of work.

Backstage, we were just teasing a little bit Jemima.

You know, I didn't know when I invited her to Inverse that she is compliance officer.

Doesn't every Bible study need a compliance officer?

And buckle up for this Bible study because we have a compliance officer with us in the Bible.

Why would we be doing a season on growing in a relationship with God?

Well, you know, just as anyone in a relationship, whether married or in romantic relationship, your relationship grows deeper.

You learn things about the other person, you're spending time with that person and wonderful things happen when you get close to them and you learn more about them.

And this is an invitation the Bible gives us to learn more about God, to get deeper and understanding what God is.

You're continually investing in your marriage relationship?

And our relationship with God needs attention as well.

I'm reminded of like a plant, you know, before I got married, I had a plant, you know, I wasn't advanced to the level of like an animal or anything like that, but you have to water it, right?

You have to know when to water it, when to feed it, when to put it outside.

So similar to our relationship with God, we need to learn more about God.

You know, how can we exist in relationship with him?

And so it's really important to ensure that our relationship with him grows and thrives, that we learn about it.

It's everything, especially as a young adult.

For me, I consider myself still a young adult.

And so 1 of the biggest things that people are asking, especially young adults, is how to have that relationship with God.

They know the importance of having that relationship with God, but I can't wait to talk about the practicality literally in that.

And like, what does it look like, practically speaking, right?

So what about your relationship with God?

Is there a longing in your heart to, to strengthen it, to, to come closer, to understand certain things about God more?

And we're going to be talking about all those things this season.

Father in heaven, I just praise you and thank you so much that we can study your words together.

And as we study, as we talk, as we just learn from each other, I pray that you not only speak to all of us here, but you speak to every viewer's hearts today.

Thank you for hearing our prayers in Jesus name.

And so we are going to read the scripture.

We're starting this season with an, I would say, uncomfortable passage of the Bible.

And so when you hear these words, if If you apply them to yourselves and you think, wow, that's how it makes us all feel.

But you know, as we read this passage, we remember that God really knows us better than we know ourselves.

And even when things are not right with our relationship with him, he's calling us back.
