The Gift: The 2nd Coming of the Holy Spirit, Part 2

This message was presented at the GYC 2011 conference.

And, you know what, the second coming of the Holy Spirit, You can understand why of all the subjects Jesus gave attention to, this was his number 1, number 1 emphasis.

Because when you get the Holy Spirit, who do you get?

And sometimes you'll be praying, you'll be praying and you will sense the presence of Christ in that prayer room.

Like all 3 members of the Godhead, the most humble being in the universe.

God is the most humble being in the universe.

He said, Elijah, I want you to go up and stand in that mouth of that cave.

Thunder and lightning, earthquake, fire, nothing.

Then when it was just shh, shh, then it was stillness.

He doesn't try to get everybody's attention when he shows up.

So, being the humblest being in the universe, you can understand why he wants you and me to be the same way.

So that when we walk into a room, the attention is not immediately on who we are, but who we represent.

Move in and sit at that crowded table that's laughing.

I'll talk, I'll laugh, I'll be a part of everything that's happening here, but my intent is not to get you to think of me.

My intent is for somehow there to be an open opportunity for me to say a word about the Lord Jesus Christ.

If the disciple outshines the master, you don't need a disciple.

If a disciple outshines the master, the disciple's trying to be the master.

Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, Jesus says.

Okay, so this would be, this is the, put the final wrap on this.

I want to show you something that we can do with Revelation 18.1, which is essentially a prophecy of the second coming of the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 18.1 is a prediction of the second coming of the Holy Spirit.

The earth will be lightened with the glory of Christ.

I'm going to go back now to Revelation 18.1.

I'm pulling a segment out of a teaching called Rumors from the East and I saw Annie here and we did that out in Loma Linda together back in 2007.

Annie was taking pharmacology then and she's, just saw her today and she's up in Spokane, Washington now, a pharmacist.

So that's why the background suddenly changed, because I want to add this practical piece just at the end before we hurry off to, we're not hurrying off to lunch, we're hurrying off, I think, to a plenary, isn't that right?

Then we get lunch, Because if you went to breakfast and you ate the granola without milk and you used applesauce instead...

I drink only soy milk because I'm vegan, but I couldn't find even any of that.

So you had to put the applesauce on the granola.

So if you did that, you're not even hungry now.

So anyway, that's why we're going to, 12 o'clock we're going down to the big hall.

Does it start at 1215 then in the big hall?

There's something here, I need you to see this.

And this is what will move us into practicality.

Revelation 18.1, after these things, I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory.

And by the way, let me just be shameless here and tell you that these teachings are at a website called www.pmchurch.tv.

And this is sitting, this is pulled out of 1 of those, And this is from the Rumors from the East series.

This is not something where John just kind of thought it up.

He was shown it, but he was given Old Testament language to depict it.

It's fun to sit at a table with new people, get acquainted.

All the blood rushes down to that great meal to begin the digestive process but in the process it vacates our brains and we get we get a bit drowsy so father we're moving into we're moving into a vital theme.

Doesn't matter what time of day it is, this theme is vital for us.

And so I humbly pray, and we all join together in this prayer, that you will open our minds.

That the gift of the Holy Spirit, who keeps giving himself again and again, that the giver, the Holy Spirit himself, will be present.

We don't go into this with a cavalier spirit.

We earnestly are looking to know the truth, that the truth might set us free.

So let this module now be optimized within us through the power of the Spirit hovering over us.

For the glory and honor of Jesus, we pray in His name.

Before we plunge into the teaching, good to have all of you, and you're coming in from the back, glad you're here.

We want to put a study guide in your hands.

1 will take us up to the break and then the second 1.

You want both study guides, but we're not going to give both of them to you now.

We're going to put 1 in your hand at a time and We've got somebody up there at the door, I think, Dewey, that is going to be handing these out to late comers as they arrive.

So before we do anything else, just make sure you get the study guide.

There'll be a part where you and I will start filling it in in just a moment.

This subject, the subject of Ellen White, which was assigned to me, and she said, Dwight, if you're coming down here, would you please do this?

I did a teaching series of about 11 parts entitled The Gift at the Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Vantage University.

The reality is we have a generation now that's grown up in the church that really doesn't know diddly squat about this gift.

We have cyberspace now that is filled with voices, pro and con, regarding Ellen White.

You can go anywhere you want in cyberspace and you can get whatever you're looking for.

So in a world like this where you've not really been that exposed to the story behind the gift, I want to take just a few moments with you this afternoon and I hope you can join us tomorrow morning.

Share with you tomorrow morning, by the way, fascinating empirical research that they have done, a team of scholars, has studied the effect, what happens to a human being who is exposed to this gift and takes it seriously.

They have been able to measure what goes on in terms of spirituality and this gift.

I'm going to give you the actual findings on the chart that the findings were published with.

Because you're going to be brought up short 1 day by somebody who's going to say, Hey, yo!

Tell me about this gift that you talk about.

Now, you're the church that believes in Joseph Smith, right?

No, actually, you got us mixed up with somebody else.

Oh, you're the church that has Mary Baker Eddy in it.

You're the ones that don't do blood transfusions?

Oh, white, white, white, white, white, this Ellen White lady.

She like Joseph Smith and Mary Baker Eddy?

I mean it can go just like that So I want I want to give you enough material to where you feel comfortable Under the inspiration of the spirit to be able 1 day to intelligently carry on a conversation with somebody who asks you Now does that mean I'm some sort of authority in the area of Ellen White and her writings?

I've been reading here for a bunch of years, and it comes out of that experience that I want to share with you.

I'm indebted to some great scholars who have done their homework as well.

And you've heard, yep, some of you are there now.

Judd Lake, a scholar there, has done some excellent work.

He's written a book called Ellen White under fire.

And probably 1 of the best books I've read on the subject.

So I'm going to just pull from these scholars, put something together that I hope will be useful to you.

This is part 2 because part 1 was this morning, the second coming of the Holy Spirit.

And we're tying that in because the Holy Spirit is the great gift and all this gift is about is the gift of the Holy Spirit working in our contemporary world.

And you'll see him in the study guide you get tomorrow.

But I'm just giving him kudos right here at the beginning just to assure you that I'm standing on some tall shoulders.

I want to begin with the Sermon on the Mount.

Before we go to our PowerPoint, everything's on PowerPoint today.

The Sermon on the Mount would be Matthew chapter 7.

Open your Bible with me please to Matthew chapter 7.

If you had a red letter Bible, mine's not a red letter Bible, but if you had a red letter, these words would be bright red.

The Gift: Ellen White, the Spirit, and Critics, Part 2

I want to pray with you before we get back into the Word of God together.

Look at how you programmed the Sabbath into the weekly calendar of human survival.

We need a break every day when alone in our prayer closet with you.

We need the seventh day to refresh our souls 1 on 1 with you and with each other.

Give us minds that are clear to comprehend what the Spirit would teach us.

I want to share this with you, and we're going to move rapidly through this.

This is that great final line in Revelation, the apocalypse chapter 12.

And it's all in symbols, but you know this text well.

And the dragon, and who's the dragon, by the way?

That's Satan, the devil, the old serpent, yep.

Pure woman, pure church, impure woman, impure church.

And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest, the King James says, the remnant of her seed, who keep the commandments of God, and have what?

All right, so we all cut our eye teeth on this text in our little apocalyptic community of faith.

This text, we believe, is a key identifier of God's end time movement.

Apocalyptic movement at the end of time, it'll have 2 characteristics.

It'll be a movement that keeps the commandments of God, and it will be a movement that has the what?

So it will be, there will be some sort of Christ saturation, Christ centeredness that will be significant.

Let's just do an old fashioned Bible study.

So we go to Revelation chapter 10 to find out.

Yo, yo, what's the testimony of Jesus all about?

And by the way, this is the angel Gabriel.

And John is so overcome by the glory of this angel.

He only gets his glory from his proximity to the divine.

But John is so overwhelmed, he falls at Gabriel's feet to worship him.

Gabriel says to John, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, see that you do not do that.

I am your fellow servant and of your brothers who have the testimony of Jesus.

Oh, there it is, same phrase, testimony of Jesus.

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

So God will have a church at the end of time, it'll be a church that keeps the commandments of God, and I suppose that would include the fourth commandment, wouldn't it?

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy?

So it'd be a church that's a Sabbatarian community.

It'd be a community of faith that keeps the seventh-day Sabbath.

So it's a church that keeps the commandments of God and has a testimony of Jesus.

We stay in the book, we don't go somewhere else, and we find in Revelation 19, oh yeah, the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 12, 17, the final community of God's faithful will be 1, and let's just do this before we get to that third text.

Number 1, they will be radically obedient to the commandments of God, including the fourth.

This community of faith, this movement at the end of time, will be radically obedient to the commandments of God and number 2, will be radically loyal to the testimony of Jesus.

So obedient to God's law, loyal to Jesus' testimony, 2 identifying characteristics of this community of faith.

So, yeah, but what's up with this testimony of Jesus?

The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy or the prophetic gift.

In fact, this is a study guide where you'd be able to do a Bible study with somebody because we're going to look at the 4 tests of a prophet.

All right, so we now know that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy or the prophetic gift.

You've got the study guide now, so you'll have all this.

It's not like you're scrambling to write the text down.

Revelation 22, 9, then he, Gabriel, said to me, John does the same thing all over again.

Gabriel shows up and he falls down and worships him.

Gabriel's thinking to himself, John, we've been through this once, but he doesn't, he's very gracious, he says, John, say that you do not do that.

For I am your fellow servant and of your brothers the prophets.

I'm of your brothers the prophets and of Those who keep the words of this book worship God.

Now remember in his previous, Gabriel previously to John, he said, I am your fellow servant and of your brothers who have the testimony of Jesus.

Now he doesn't say they have the testimony of Jesus.

The Gift: Taste Them Again for the First Time, Part 1

Tell you what, I looked out of the window at the beginning of the day and it was sunny and it looked like, oh, we're going to have another Texas sunrise, but the clouds had come over just a tad.

But the sun is shining above them and God is on the throne.

I tell you what, Did you go to the morning worship?

I tell you, it's the first time I've had the privilege of meeting Charissa.

But she is teaching the Word of God with great clarity, passion, conviction, and anointing.

Guys, we're going to get the study guide.

People are still going to come dribbling in, as you know, after this after-breakfast moment.

The people that did the stapling, the photocopy organization, accidentally took the last sheet of the first half and nailed it to the staple to the first, as the first sheet of the second half.

So you have to have both study guides now.

So, we've got 1 study guide coming to you here.

We've got another study guide coming there.

You will tell immediately when you see them.

Ah, that's the 1 I want to use, we want to use now.

The other 1 will not have a Part B on it.

It will be the second sheet that will say Part B.

At the top line of it will read Seventh-day Adventist.

So make sure you get the 1 that says the Seventh-day Adventist Church is positioned.

That packet, it's a thicker packet, and then the first 1 that says, what's the title of the first 1 that has Part A on it?

So we're going to take just a few moments to make sure that everybody gets both Study guides.
