Constantin Tischendorf’s discovery led to evidence of the New Testament’s authenticity. But the critics weren’t silenced yet. Now the chorus of skeptics claimed that there was no evidence, not even the “merest fragment,” from before the fourth century to back the Christian belief that the New Testament had been written three centuries before.
