Living with Uncertainty

It's good to be with the Warrington Church family again.

My wife and I are always so blessed when we're here.

I want to thank you for your prayers during a time of challenge that we've had over the last 8 weeks.

The doctor has given me a very good prognosis.

And I'll talk to you a little bit about that in the Bible message today.

But I just want you to know that I'm doing significantly better than I was a couple months ago, and we are just thanking the Lord for that.

Pastor Banks asked me to update you on some of the progress of the Dominion Valley Church project.

You know, there are some things that at every step of the way, you see God's hand, And you look back and you say, this has to be God working.

Let me give you 4 things that have happened over the last 9 months to a year that just indicate the moving of the Spirit of God.

A library was supposed to be put on that property, but yet God put his hand over it.

The city decided not to put the library there, so therefore it was open for us for a church.

The price of the property is significantly more expensive than we have offered.

Toll Brothers Corporation wants us there.

They have said, We want your church there.

We think your church as Adventists will be a blessing in this community.

Third thing, the money for the property has already come in and is already pledged.

Not only is it pledged, we have it in hand.

How could a little church like this, in just a couple months, have in a bank account over $400, 000?

Fourthly, the fourth miracle happened just this week.

We have been looking at different plans, and obviously when those plans are refined, they'll come before the church body and the building committee and we'll all take a look at them.

And so we have been working with 1 of the most famed, renowned Adventist architects.

Don Kirkman has designed literally hundreds of churches for Seventh-day Adventists.

Don is 86 years old right now, and he just announced his retirement.

So his business, his corporation, is going to go out of business.

There may be 2 others that he's working on, but as far as I know, this was the last church.

He and Maranatha Organization have decided to give us the plans.

Now any of you know about architects at all?

The architectural fees alone could have been $50, 000 to $75, 000.

Every step of the way, It's as if God is saying, Warrington Church, move ahead.

Now there will be times that God asks us to make sacrifice.

In fact, if somebody gave us all the money for the church tomorrow, I would refuse it.

Because unless we as a congregation own the project, it would be very unhealthful for us.

So God will give us enough to indicate that He's going to do it, but not so much to make us feel complacent.

That's why God invites the church to be totally unified as we move ahead in this project.

I would hate to be fighting against something God was doing, wouldn't you?

It's obvious that this could not have happened if God was not in it.

Oh, Father, we thank you for what you have done so far.

We thank you that Toll Brothers has now given us a contract.

It's in our hands that the conference attorneys are reviewing it.

We're thankful that soon the land will be purchased.

We just dream of the day that a beautiful church will be there.

We know this church is running out of space.

It has no space for fellowship and community programs and no space for children and the parking we're running out of.

We believe that you have a dream for this warrenton, gainesville, haymarket area.

And that is to see people won to you and led to your message and we thank you for that.

Now Lord there's a long way to go there are mountains to climb but we pray thee that you would be blessing us as we climb those mountains together.

Now Lord bless the message today in Christ's name, Amen.

If you would have asked me 6 months ago, Pastor Mark, how's your health?

I would have told you it's great, absolutely great.

Well, I still may live to be a healthy hundred.

But quite unexpectedly, about 2 months ago, I was at a meeting at the General Conference in Battle Creek.

We were reviewing the 150th anniversary of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and I was there with other church leaders and had a rented car, and as I was driving along the car, something that I had put on the passenger side, I was alone, fell off the seat.

So I pulled off the side of the road to get that little thing, and as I did, I reached over the console, hit my ribs, and cracked a rib and broke it.

Well, you know a broken rib can give you quite enormous pain, so we have a physician at the General Conference, Dr.

Peter Landless, and I went to Peter and I said, Peter, take a look at this.

Alan Handysides, they looked at it and they said, Mark, this is very unusual.

How could you break your rib in a freak accident?

So every year I get an executive physical.

So I thought to myself, I am in absolutely perfect health.

And I get my executive physical every year.

So I went down to Florida, got the executive physical at Celebration Health, talked to the person actually who was done my executive physical for years.

And she said, Mark, I don't know, we better check this out.

So gave me some tests and said, you know, your bones are really brittle.

We're not understanding why this is happening.

On the way back in the airport, went to plug in my computer, leaned over a chair and broke a rib on the other side.

So now I have not 1 broken rib, I had 2 broken ribs.

Came back to my doctors at the general conference, they said tomorrow you're going to be at the University of Maryland.

So for 8 weeks twenty-four blood vials drawn, CAT scans and every kind of test you can imagine at the University of Maryland.
