Look a Little Higher

I have you turn in your Bibles to Revelation chapter 22.

I'll be leaving next Thursday to do a camp meeting in Nova Scotia in Canada.

I go straight from the camp meeting in Nova Scotia to the ASI convention where I'm supposed to have, of course, the keynote address, the opening address.

I don't have a lot of time to prepare sermons.

I go straight to Germany to do another camp meeting.

So I should be gone till sometime like August 19.

You can't realize, you can't imagine how much I'm called upon to do in the next 3 weeks, which is overwhelming to me sometimes.

In any case, The positive side of all of that is my wife is coming home on Monday and she will be with me through all of that, which is a blessing to me.

The serpent's venom, sin's poisons, is in our bodies, in our minds, in our hearts.

We are infected with the poison of sin, and I suppose you know that too.

This is what Psalms 51, Psalm 51, verse 5 says, we were conceived in sin.

And unless we are born again, of course, we are dead in trespasses and sin.

Unless we are born again, according to the scriptures, our natures are not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Revelation chapter 8 verse 7, we are helplessly, hopelessly lost.

This is true of every individual in the human race, unless of course we are born again.

But Jesus, God, so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, and with His Son He has freely given us all things, including eternal life.

In 1st John chapter 5 verse 12, and you don't have to turn there, but it says, He that hath the Son, the unsearchable riches, the unsearchable gift of God, he who hath the Son has life.

He who has not the Son of God hath not life.

And we understand that simply to mean that a gift that can be received can be refused.

And so God has in His great wonder, as far as I am concerned, He has taken all of our sins upon Himself.

He's turned around, and because of what His Son has done as an atonement for our sins on the cross of Calvary, He has turned around and given us His righteousness, His life eternal, His everything.

And friends, it really is a simple matter of coming to Jesus and drinking in that good news.

I'll have you turn to Revelation 22 and we're looking at verse 17.

And by the way, this is a preview for the keynote address that I hope to do at ASI.

So if I'm talking to you like you're ASI members, it's because I'm practicing on you.

But never mind, the things that I'm practicing on you are still just as true to you as they are to whoever else I might be practicing on next week or a couple of weeks from now.

Revelation 22 verse 17 And the Spirit and the bride says, What?

And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

And if you take this verse and you analyze, trying to find what are the predicates, the verbs, the action words in here.

There's only 2 verbs that make any difference in this verse, and that's the verb come and take.

Now if I said to you this morning that this is all you have to do, is come to Jesus and take the water of life freely.

If I said to you this morning, all you have to do is come to the Lord and take the gift of salvation, would you believe me?

Well friends, you don't have to take it from me.

What if the Lord's special messengers to the remnant church said it?

In 6 BC, 6th Bible commentary, 1071, paragraph 5, it says this, All that a man can possibly do toward His own salvation is to accept the invitation." And then she quotes Revelation 22, verse 17.

All that a man can possibly do toward his own salvation is to accept this invitation, Revelation 22, verse 17, Come and take.

And then some of the most beautiful words you could ever utter follow what she just said.

This is still a quotation from Ellen White.

And you need, we all need to believe this.

No sin can be committed by man for which satisfaction has not been met on Calvary.

It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter where you've been, It doesn't matter what sin you've committed in the past.

It doesn't matter how miserable you are today.

It doesn't matter if you fall on your face tomorrow.

No sin can be committed by any man for which satisfaction has not already been met on Calvary.

And friends, Calvary happened 2, 000 years ago.

You were not born, you were not born again.

Jesus went to the cross, He went with your sin, and He paid the price then.

And no sin, no sin was left behind, or left on the side, or forgotten.

She goes on to say, thus, because this is true, the cross in earnest appeals, continually prefers to the sinner a thorough expiation, a clean slate.

I mean, do you have a picture in your mind?

Do you see Jesus going to the cross, gathering all the sins that was ever committed, that will ever be committed, every single sin that was ever committed, go to the cross with it, pay the full penalty because of it, and then turn around and gives everyone in the human race a clean slate.

And all that you and I have to do is what?

Jesus said, If any man will come to Me, I will never cast him out.

And there's a Spirit of Prophecy quotation, and I'm not going to take time to read it, but it simply says this.

It says, if you think you're hanging on just 1 promise, if you hang your hopes on just this promise, come to me and I will not cast you out.

If you think that that's not enough, forget it.

She says that if you take this promise and believe this promise and internalize this promise, you are as safe as if you were in the holy city of God in heaven.

Now if you were in God's holy city in heaven this morning, would you be safe?

Well, you can be just that safe this morning.

In Hebrews 7, verse 25, Jesus says, Come to Me, and if you will come to God by Me, I will save you to the uttermost.

How would you like to be saved to the uttermost?
