Biblical Love, Marriage, and Relationships - Part 2

Let's bow heads before we begin with our message for today.

Father in heaven, we thank you once again.

Speak to us, dear Lord, concerning biblical love, marriage, and relationships.

Give us biblical guidelines, dear Lord, on how we could find a mate that's pleasing in your sight.

This morning, I'm gonna share with you my journey on how I found my wife.

It is not my intent or do I insinuate that my story will be your story.

However, Embedded and threaded in my journey are biblical and universal principles from the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy.

And it is my hope and my desire that you not only walk away with the applications of these biblical and principles, biblical principles from the Bible and the Spirit of Christ, but the applications, but that you will also walk away with these biblical, universal, timeless spiritual principles on how to find a mate.

And that those biblical principles, those universal principles will manifest itself in a unique way that's unique to your context, to your time and to your situation.

So in no way am I insinuating and implying or imposing that my way of finding the applications will have to be your way.

So listen to the principles and I'll touch on them.

And as I mentioned yesterday, the topic of love, marriage and relationship is inexhaustible.

And so these 2 presentations is not comprehensive enough.

This is a study and this is something we'll be learning throughout all of eternity.

The idea of marriage dawned on me in my mid-twenties.

But for me, The idea of finding a spouse dawned on me in my mid-twenties.

I was youth pastoring and I was doing evangelism and traveling to different parts of the world conducting revivals and evangelistic meetings.

And when that thought of finding a help meet dawned in my mind, immediately the Holy Spirit led me to a quote that kind of made me fear and tremble.

And I can hear the Holy Spirit saying, he says, Douglas, Marriage is something that will influence and affect your life both in this world and the world to come.

Marriage is something that will influence and affect your life both in this world and in the world to come.

That was the very first thought that came to my mind as soon as I started contemplating marriage.

And so I began to realize early that finding a spouse was a do or die situation, was a life and death situation.

It's not only affect me here in this world, but it will also affect me in the world to come.

And so it dawned on me in my mid-twenties, the seriousness, the seriousness of finding a good spouse.

And I loved ministry and I still love ministry and I wanted to, and I'll elaborate this later on, and I was very, very protective that the Lord will lead me to someone that will be more of a compatibility to my ministry rather than a hindrance.

And so earlier on, the seriousness of marriage dawned on me.

And so every time I started contemplating, I'm thinking to myself, it's going to affect you in this life and also in the next life.

Therefore, the first principle that I learned in finding or pursuing a spouse was first and foremost, to trust in God.

And allowing Him, through His Holy Spirit, and through the guidelines of the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy to lead me, to lead me in finding a good spouse.

Well, long story short, I got married on July the 21st, 2005.

There are a few dates you can forget in life, but there's other dates you've got to remember for the remainder of your life.

I got married in the beautiful country of New Zealand, where I'm originally from.

That's my wife right there in the middle with me.

And we've been happily married now for 10 years.

We're looking, we're going to try to get 57 sister.

We're aiming for 57 and beyond if Jesus doesn't come.

And so I made the commitment to be married to this beautiful lady and exchanged vows on 27th of July 2005.

She's a member of my church, so she knows.

And so my wife and I, we love the outdoors.

That's us in 1 of the waterfalls on the beautiful island of Kauai that if you come into a mission trip, I could take you there.

We love nature that testifies and reveals the character of God's love.

1 of the things that we love to do, I have a Jeep, a 1990 YJ four-cylinder Jeep that we love off-roading, going off-road.

And sometimes we just love to go in the Jeep, you know, the topless and just park at the beach and just talk.

We love to tease each other and we love just to go out and have a good time.

We love making new friends, you know, going out and having dinner with other couples and learning from them.

We love to eat out with friends and other young couples that have children and who've just recently got married and even those who've been married for long periods of time.

That's us going on the horseback, that's the jeep there.

And you know there's something about horseback riding.

You know, when you go horseback riding, time moves so slow.

It's like clippity-clop, clippity-clop, clippity-clop, clippity-clop.

And then when you come to the main highway, you see these cars zoom, zoom, zoom.

And then you think to yourself, what's the rush?

And off we go, clippity-clop, clippity-clop, clippity-clop.

We just talk, we just talk, you know, as we go horseback riding.

That's the principle, quality time with each other.

And so that's 1 of the things that we love to do.

Of course, we love God with all of our hearts.

And 1 of the things that led me to my wife was not only the way she looked, but also her spirituality.

Before I met my wife, my calling was sure." I'll underline that again.

Before I married my wife, my calling into full-time ministry was sure.
