Goliath’s Sword

Often times in Christianity, it can seem like you have become, you have reached the point of weariness.

Where it seems like you finally got to that place where you're just like, God, I've done all that I can do and I don't have anything left.

We often times come to these points these places in our journey and we just we just begin to realize and feel God I there's nothing else there's nothing else for me to do I tried my best And here I am and I have just failed.

Well this sermon I believe is going to really encourage you, especially for those warriors that are tired and weary.

God wants to challenge us in extraordinary ways.

And he will turn our weaknesses into his strength and we will see all sorts of powerful things that God wants to do.

Ladies and gentlemen I believe God is calling each and every 1 of us to pick up the sword again and continue fighting.

I remember I had this very interesting experience, I shared this with you a few years ago.

It's the story of how God did something very unique and was way ahead of me on this matter.

I actually had to go to Sonora to teach a class there.

It was a Bible class, and I was thinking to myself, how can I teach a group of teenagers about the Bible in a way that's going to be exciting and interactive?

And I remember This old story that somebody told to me about these Japanese samurai.

And these Japanese samurai were just, you know, really good samurai, good warriors.

And what these Japanese samurais would do, in addition to practicing sword play and preparing for battle, they would often times spend, they would spend time just staring and observing their swords.

They were watching every detail, studying out every aspect of the weapon they had.

To them, the samurai sword were their very best friends.

They etched writing into the sword itself, so that when they looked at the sword, it of itself would communicate some powerful lesson as it was doing its job.

And so as I was planning this out 1 day, I was thinking to myself, I need a sword with writing on it, and I'm gonna share this with these kids.

If you're a single lady, please do not go to somebody's house to go pick up an item without a mail available, amen?

And so I thought, okay, you know what, I'm gonna go on Craigslist, I'm gonna look for a sword.

And so I went on to Craigslist, and somebody was selling a medieval sword for $60, and I thought to myself, I don't have $60 to spend on a sword, okay?

So I thought to myself, I'll keep looking.

1 person was selling a collection of Japanese swords for $100 and I was looking at some of the swords and I thought wow they're so great But I'm like I don't have $100 and I was really weighing this out of my mind determining whether or not it was worth this purchase, when all of a sudden, this is no joke, it happened like this.

I get a knock at my office door, I open the door, and you know who's there?

And he says, hey, Pastor Arnell, that's how he talks.

He was asking me some question about 1 sprinkler that was going crazy.

And as we were talking, all of a sudden I look and he's carrying a samurai sword.

The maintenance man was carrying a samurai sword.

And I was just looking and talking to him and I was thinking to myself, okay, Why in the world is he carrying this samurai sword?

Dorchev, why are you carrying this sword?

And he says to me, he says, well, this sword, I just found this sword in the old building over there.

I took the sword, and I opened up the sword, and there was writing all along the blade and When I went to Sonora the next day to teach that Bible class I told them the story and their jaws just, 1 kid tried to buy the sword off me.

I'm not selling that sword, I'm giving it to my son.

So here's the thing, God is calling us to pick up the sword again.

And I wanna share with you a video about a sword or swords that some youth group made.

First time I watched it, it really made me cry.

Ladies and gentlemen, God is calling each and every 1 of us to pick up a sword again.

And you're going to find out more about this in the Bible today.

We're going to be learning about a very special sword that came to 1 of the greatest Bible heroes of all the scripture.

When you think of the perfect man in the Bible, who was that?

This is the 1 time where most people give the, or to give the answer they always give.

What is the generic answer everybody gives?

It shouldn't be a generic answer, but who is the most perfect man in all of scripture?

You got the answer right this time, okay?

But here's the thing I want you to pay attention to.

Oftentimes when you look at the life of Jesus, he was always connected to another person, and who was that?

The Bible says that he was the son of David.

Here it is, the most perfect man in all of scripture, the best man in all of scripture, Jesus Christ, and yet the Bible says he was the son of David.

God was actually connecting the greatest person who has ever lived, Jesus Christ, with King David.

And that tells us a lot about King David, who was a very imperfect person.

And I'm gonna share with you the Bible story about how King David was propelled to the place that he went to.

What really did it was a certain circumstance and situation that happened in Israel.

You know, oftentimes, it is trials and tribulations and difficult circumstances that can oftentimes be perceived as evil and as God is doing something bad, which is meant for our good in the end.

And those things that take place often can be opportunities for God to work and take you further and greater than where you were in the beginning.

You know, in the life of Israel, in the story of Israel, there was a constant battle taking place between Israel and the Philistines.

The Philistines were an interesting group of people who were from the coast, and they would go about raiding and invading various nations and people groups.

They had a big problem with Israel, and they camped out in the Valley of Elah.

I was reading what 1 researcher said that where they were camped out was actually near the central part of Israel, and what they were seeking to do was to strategically place themselves where they could split Israel.

And so he camped This group of people, the Philistines were cramped out, camped out, not cramped out, camped out in this area.

On 1 side and on the other side, there were the group of the Israelites.

In fact, a lot of the Israelites did not have normal weapons.

The Philistines had controlled all the iron in the land.

And after King Saul took over, he started changing some of this, but it was a slow process.

And so you had Philistines in 1 area, and you had the Israelites in another area.

Oftentimes, nations that were at war would practice something called single combat, where they would send out their best champion.

And sure enough, you know about the Philistines champion, his name was what?

Goliath, We hear that name oftentimes, a metaphor used in today's vernacular describing the underdog story, right, David versus Goliath.

Well, there's something interesting about this story that I think is really going to minister to each and every 1 of us.

The Bible really doesn't talk too much about him.
