Prophesy Again

Dear Lord, I just ask that you would use me now to deliver your word.

Lord, I pray that this would be a message that impacts our lives and impacts our church.

Lord, I pray for your spirit to be with us now.

I want to say a couple of things about this message before I start.

This is a message that I've been thinking about preaching at Advent Hope for quite some time.

And I wanted to preach something else this week because I'm going to preach some presentations on a different subject.

And I thought, well, perfect, I can preach that at Advent Hope and use it for double duty.

I couldn't prepare those other messages until I prepared the message that I have today.

But I want you to know that there ought to be a full-length mirror right here on the front row.

I'm preaching this message as much to me as to any of you.

I hope you brought your Bibles today and get them out because we're gonna be turning through them.

The title of my message today is Prophesy Again.

Turn with me if your Bible if you will to Revelation 10 verse 7.

This particular passage means a lot to me.

It meant a lot to me as I was studying my Bible for the first time because I knew quite a bit about Adventist history, but I didn't know doctrine, and I certainly hadn't read my Bible when I read this for the first time.

And I am apologizing to say it was relatively late in life that I happened upon this.

And when I saw this, I realized that, wait a second, this is about us.

And it was like a lightning bolt just went through my spine when I realized that.

So looking at Revelation 10 and starting in verse 7 it says, and in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servant the prophets." So we know the seventh angel, man, we're at the end, right?

"...and the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel, which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

We won't even go into what that is precisely, but if you know that it's Daniel, you know enough.

And you have to remember, if you know Adventist history, before there was a Seventh-day Adventist church, there was a Baptist minister by the name of William Miller, and he's preaching out of the book of Daniel.

And from out of this, the Adventists are born.

But let's go on and see what Revelation 10 has to say.

And I went unto the angel and I said unto him, Give me the little book.

And he said unto me, Take it and eat it up, and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

And I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it up, and it was in my mouth sweet as honey, and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

This is describing the experience of the early Adventists.

They studied the book of Daniel, they studied the time prophecies of Daniel, and they figured out Christ was coming back on 1844.

And when they figured that out, it was sweet in the mouth.

But then later they figured out they were wrong.

And so we know This is the great disappointment.

But look, look at verse 11, it doesn't end there.

And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.

It didn't end in 1844 and we're not done.

And it's not just to the folks that heard it the first time, you know, the 1844 movement was around the world, but this says to many people's nations, tongues, and kings, This is everybody, folks.

I want to show you a few things this morning, and I want you to think about them.

It's a little different than what you would see at general conference this morning or last night.

This right here, now just so you know where I got my data, I got it from mainly Wikipedia or Adventist statistics sites.

I believe it's a very good approximation.

I could be off a percent or 2 here and there.

But this right here is a breakdown of the religions of the world.

26% Islam, 18% Catholic, 16% Hindu, 15% Chinese paganism, there's Chinese traditional religions in there, 14% Protestant, 7% Buddhist.

I was surprised at that number for Buddhist.

It seemed like that should be a lot bigger, and I would have never thought that Chinese traditional religions were any different.

And then you have other religions there, 4%.

And then you can look at it a little bit differently.

You can look at it as Protestant versus non-Protestant.

Seventh-day Adventist, we don't even make 1%.

Now if you wanna get technical and actually do the math, we make 0.27%.

I want God to come back and I pray that this is the last general conference.

However, we need to not have a sense of triumphalism.

I'm sorry, but this chart right here and this figure right here should cure you of that.

I just wanted to point this out to get an idea as to what's going on with the world.

There's been a lot going on these last week or 2 though that's made me think twice about a few things.

And we need to know the time that we live in and what's going on in the world.

If you look at this, This was put out by Reporters Without Borders.

I don't know much about them, but I thought it was kind of interesting.

They have it for 2015, but you can't download it.

This 1 I could just easily swipe and put it in, But it doesn't change very much.

And if you're white on there, you're a good situation.

By the time you get red, it's a difficult situation.

Now if you know a little bit about freedom of the press and freedom of speech, That came because of the results of the Protestant Reformation.
