The Christian life is an experience of progress, advancement and growth in the grace of God.

Or as the old song puts it, I'm pressing on the upward way to higher ground.

I'm pressing on the upward way, new heights I'm gaining every day.

Still praying as I onward bound, Lord plant my feet on higher ground.

By faith, my head at heaven's table land.

I want to scale the utmost height And catch a gleam of glory bright But still I'll pray till heaven I've found Lord, lead me on to higher ground Lord, lift me up and let me stand.

By faith I'll take the heaven's stable land.

A higher plane than I have found, Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

Our Father in Heaven, we pray that Thou wilt bless everyone who hears the broadcast today.

Help us to do our part here in the studio in a way that would honor Thee.

We pray for all the sick and the troubled, those who have great problems.

We pray for religious liberty throughout all the world, And this we ask in Jesus' name.

There is a place of quiet rest Near to the heart of God A place where sin cannot molest, near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blessed Redeemer, sent from the heart of God, hold us who bow before thee near to the heart of God.

The spacious firmament on high, with all the blue ethereal sky.

And spangled hens a shining frame, Their great original proclaim.

The unwearyed son from day to day does his Creator's power display, display and publishes to every land the work of an almighty hand.

What though in silent silence all move round this dark terrestrial ball.

What though no real voice nor sound amid their radiant halls be found.

In reasons e'er they all rejoice, and utter forth a glorious voice, forever singing as they shine, the heaven as they shine, the hand that made us is divine.

Glory, glory, thus I sing, nothing but the blood of Jesus.

All my praise for this I bring, nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh, precious is the flow that makes me white as snow.

No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Here now is HMS Richards, the Voice of Prophecy speaker, who will answer Bible questions.

Our first question asks, tell me something about the Bible itself as to its length, its number of chapters, and so forth.

Well, the Bible contains 66 books, 1189 chapters, 31, 072 verses, 773, 746 words.

That is the King James Version in English.

There may of course be variations in the number of letters according to different counters.

In Ezra 7, verse 21, we find all the letters of the alphabet except J.

The 19th chapter of 2 Kings and the 37th chapter of Isaiah are almost identical.

The longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8, verse 9, and the shortest is John 11, verse 35.

Of this wonderful book, the Bible, called also the Holy Scriptures.

We should remember the words of Jesus when he said, Search the Scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.

Next, can you tell me which church will save my soul?

Well my answer would have to be this, no church can save your soul or anyone else's soul but Jesus Christ can.

Because we read in scripture, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

It's the duty of every church to proclaim the gospel of Christ and bring men to the Savior, of whom it is written in Matthew 121, Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.

But some may say, How do we find this salvation?

Listen to these words of Acts 1631, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.

And again in John 1 12, But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.

He said, him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out.

Here's a letter that asks, if I follow my conscience and everything will I not be all right with God?" To be safe in following the conscience, 1 must be sure that the conscience is guided and instructed by the Word of God.

In Acts 23, 1 we read of a good conscience.

In 1 Corinthians 8, 7 of a weak conscience and of a defiled conscience.

In 1 Timothy 4, verse 2, we read of a conscience seared with a hot iron.

In Hebrews 9, verse 14, we read of a conscience that must be purged from dead works.

And in Hebrews 10, verse 22, we read of an evil conscience.

So it is certainly clear that 1 may follow his conscience and be entirely wrong.

We may have an evil conscience, a defiled conscience, or an ignorant conscience.

A fruit steamer from Jamaica reached New York 1 day with its compasses in a very strange plight.

A bolt of lightning had struck the ship in the tropical seas.

Several of the crew were stunned, a good deal of destruction done.

The compasses were put out of commission, and for the rest of the voids the captain had to navigate in the ancient way by the stars.

So the compass of the conscience is not always a safe guide.

It may be the voice of pride, of bigotry, of self-will.

It may have been struck by a bolt of passion, as someone has suggested.

How then shall we steer our lives if we do not have the compass of the conscience, just as the captain of that fruit ship did in the old-fashioned way, by the stars, that is, by the Bible and prayer.

It's written in the Scripture, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Of the Word of God as a guide to salvation, the Apostle wrote, the Holy Scriptures are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Another question asks, can you give me some Bible text regarding healing?

First Psalm 103 Verse 3, speaking of God, who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases.

So we see that God is able to heal all disease.

King Hezekiah was about to die from a severe sickness, and answered a prayer.

He was healed in 15 years, added to his life, as recorded in Isaiah 38, 5.

We read of the work of Jesus in healing the sick, Matthew 4, 23.

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

And of this wonderful work of beneficence carried on by our Savior, we read, Himself took our infirmities and bear our sicknesses, Matthew 8, 17.

I might recommend also that our questioner read James 5 14 and 15.

This song talks about how we have a responsibility to keep sharing the light that is the good news of Jesus.

Yes, we should keep our lamps burning, but we can only keep our lamps burning by what?

So let's sing hymn 595, let every lamp be burning.

The darkest hour of our strong night, before the Lord's appearing.

Obedience brings the blessings clear when faith is heard among us.

We're, of course, continuing our journey in the book of Proverbs and so we're going to get stuck into our lesson here, lesson number 4, divine wisdom, divine wisdom.

And boy, do we need that, I'm telling you, I need this to teach these lessons.

I'm more inclined to have Pastor Mike teach these lessons than myself teach them, he's got some experience under his belt more than I do and he's just a very wise man, is Pastor Mike, so he may be better suited to teach these lessons.

So you may see him more during this quarter, who knows?

But in any case, divine wisdom, we certainly need it.

Let's look at our memory text here, it's Proverbs Chapter 8 and verse 22, and if you've got your Bibles there, turn there with me, we're going to be in Proverbs 8 and 9, and several other places, of course.

Proverbs 8, and we're looking at verse 22, and this is what the Bible says, I'm reading from the New King James Version, it says, the Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way before His works of old.

And we'll talk a little bit about what that means here as we get into our lesson.

Now, fundamental to learning and practicing what is right and wrong, because certainly biblical wisdom teaches us the difference between right and wrong, and biblical wisdom applies what is right.

So fundamental to learning and practicing what's right and wrong is the acceptance of the fact that there is a right or wrong.

That's very foundational and very fundamental, I know.

A Message From God

Well, this morning I had this message planned for you, what the church really is.

And I suppose that the Lord will have me preach that sermon sometime.

But every so often I wake up early on Sabbath morning, the Lord wakes me up and it was quite early this morning and the Lord said, that's not the message for today.

And I thought to myself, I kind of tremble a little bit and I say, well what do I do Lord?

He says get up and get on your knees and I'm going to give you a message.

So whoever you are this morning, whoever this message is for, it's from the Lord, but I believe that it's for all of us.

It was certainly for me as the Lord spoke to me this morning.

I'm going to kneel this morning and invite you to bow your heads and pray as I pray and ask the Lord to bless us.

Father, this morning we rejoice in the fullness of your spirit who's joined us today, your presence today, we need it and we pray for it, we believe that we've had it, but we claim an even deeper experience with you this morning.

So Lord, we ask that the Spirit of God would move upon our hearts, would touch our hearts today, and draw us sweetly to you.

We pray that Jesus would be honored this morning, that as we go now to the Word, that this is the pinnacle of our worship, to open the bread of life as you speak to us this morning.

We pray that you would give us just a gentle breeze today as the wind blows through the sanctuary but more importantly we pray for that breeze of the Holy Spirit.

That Lord, we wouldn't receive a breeze of your Spirit, we'd receive a hurricane.

So, bless us, we ask, in Jesus' name, Amen.

I invite you to turn in your Bibles to the book of 1 Kings chapter 18.

1 Kings chapter 18 and probably a very familiar story for many of you.

1 Kings chapter 18 the Bible talks about Elijah in the land of Israel and he's always confronting a certain fellow and who is that fellow?

And King Ahab and Jezebel were ruling the land and Jezebel, we read this story and when you actually compare this story to the book of Revelation you find something very compelling that there's a lot of similarities between the stories, this story of Ahab and Jezebel and Elijah and many of the prophecies in the book of Revelation.

In fact, you find that God's people will go through very similar circumstances in the last days that Elijah went through in these days.

And so we're going to take a look at this story today and see if we can find something, and I believe that we will, that will apply to us today.

So we're going to start here, 1 Kings chapter 18 verse 1.

The Lord speaks to your heart and He's stirring your heart.

Chapter 18 verse 1 it says, And it came to pass after many days, that Elijah, I'm sorry, the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year saying, go present yourself to Ahab and I will send rain on the earth.

How many of you think we need to have rain on the earth?

Not just physical rain, but what other kind of rain?

We want the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

When the Bible says that God spoke to Elijah and he sent him in the third year, it's talking about that there was a drought in the land, right?

God had sent no rain for over 3 years because the people of Israel had been worshipping what, friends?

And God says, as long as they're worshipping idols, until their heart turns back to me, I'm going to send how much rain?

So Elijah went and presented himself to Ahab and there was a severe famine in Samaria.

And Ahab called Obadiah, who was in charge of his house.

For so it was while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah had taken 100 prophets and hidden them 50 to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.

The Word and the water being a symbol of the Holy Spirit.

Even in a time where there's great drought the Lord God still reigns from on high.

Even when there's a drought in the land like there was in Israel.
