If you come to Weimar University, you'll see at the very front of Haskell Hall, this text, Jesus went about all the cities and even the smaller places.

He proclaimed the good news of the kingdom.

Christianity has largely caught up with the second part, preaching the gospel.

They've understood that Christianity and the gospel do go together.

At least most Christians have figured that out.

Many Christians have figured out the educational institutions.

Do you know this is an educational institution?

It's a Christian-based educational institution and there are many throughout the world.

But far less have figured out the healing ministry of Christ and what he was really doing with medical missionary work.

In fact, most Christians kind of somewhat ridicule the health message.

I remember speaking to a nice Baptist pastor who was going into McDonald's and eating, and he said, when I go through those golden arches, I know I'm on my way to the pearly gates.

That means he's gonna die sooner in his mind.

By the way, it's important to understand what death is.

And by the way, if they don't understand that, they don't completely understand the gospel.

He said, I didn't come up with this gospel, I got it from inspiration.

And you have to understand all 5 words of that gospel to understand the gospel.

But it starts out with Christ, the second word is died, so you have to know what death is to understand the gospel for our sins.

That is the gospel and we can quote the Bible on that every time.

But of course sin is the transgression of the law, we have to understand that as well.

And so I don't understand Christians who ridicule the health message.

It's kind of like the health message is about having life and having it more abundantly.

Or do you really think it's better to die sooner?

Christ's healing ministry has largely been neglected by Christianity and I think he's made it abundantly clear he's not coming back until Christianity picks up this aspect of his message.

I think they were discussed in Sabbath school today.

Those are the reasons why Christ came to this earth.

When he was there with his crown of thorns, blood streaming down his face and Pilate asking him, recognizing he was not a mere human being, but Pilate saying, "'Why are you here?

"'Why did you come to this earth?' And he answered, "'I came to bear witness to the truth.

"'Everyone that is of the truth, heareth my voice.'" Truth is why he came, but it's also love that he came.

God is a God of love and we discussed free will at Sabbath school today, and you can't have love without free will.

And God actually prioritized love over not dying.

You know, it was a voluntary act for him too.

He didn't have to come save us, but he chose to love us and to reveal truth to us even though it would have wiped him out.

That's why the Bible says God cannot lie.

Maybe he could, he's a free moral agent, but he puts truth above himself.

So truth is an important aspect, and we should always be searching for and understanding truth better, but always speaking the truth in love, which is what Christ did.

We're told the influence of the Spirit of God is the very best medicine for disease.

What's the very best medicine for disease?

The more deeply heavenly influences are realized, the more sure will be the recovering of the believing invalid.

It's important that that Spirit of God be present in yourself as a medical missionary and also in your team as a medical missionary.

And the more deeply those heavenly influences are realized, the more sure will be the recovery.

We're told sickness of the mind prevails everywhere.

And before the decades of mental health, or I should say mental illness exploding.

Nine-tenths of the diseases from which men suffer have their foundation here.

You know, when the residential depression and anxiety recovery program was started back in 2002, many people were worried because of the stigma.

Are they going to come to a place that says depression and anxiety recovery because they don't want to be stigmatized?

Now, particularly all the young people that come to our program tell us that if 1 of their peers is mentally healthy, they're the abnormal 1.

Because all of them have significant, many of them, or at least in their minds all of them, have significant mental health challenges.

But you might say, well, why was it 9 out of 10 in her day?

Well, when we know how to prevent heart disease, in fact, I remember going to the first international conference on the elimination of coronary artery disease in Tucson, Arizona in 1991.

And it was great presenters telling us how we could eliminate this disease.

I fully thought it would be eliminated so that 25 years later when I saw a heart attack in the ER I would be taking a medical student and saying maybe this is the only time you'll see this in your lifetime, but I used to see this all the time.

They told us how to eliminate heart disease, but it's still the number 1 killer in the world, not because it's heart disease, but because it's lack of self-control to put into practice what is best for our heart.

When Harvard says 80% of cancers could be prevented, and it's still the number 1 cause of death in those under the age of 85.

That's not a physical problem, that's a mental problem.

Perhaps some living home trouble is like a canker, calling to the very soul and weakening the life forces.

Remorse for sin sometimes undermines the constitution and unbalances the mind.

There are erroneous doctrines also of that of eternally burning hell.

Giving exaggerated and distorted views of the character of God have produced the same result upon sensitive minds.

It reminds me of another critical care case I saw.

And she's now waking up in the critical care unit after doing that.

The year before, on that very day, her mother had died from an automobile accident.

And she told me she wanted to see her mother.

And as the physician, remember, speak the truth in love.

If you would have been successful, you would not have seen your mother.

You would have been dead in the grave awaiting the resurrection.

If I would have known that, I never would have wanted to take my life.

Her dad comes out of the room, embraces me And says, Dr.

Nedley, I'm so glad you told her that, but I just want you to know our religion doesn't believe that, and we haven't taught her that.

But he says, I'm not going to disagree at all with you when I go back into that room.

11 What More Could I Have Done?

Our lessons on God's love and justice are just speeding by, and I'm going to be a little sorrowful to see these come to an end.

You know, the lesson 11, what more could I have done, resonates with the heart of God.

God asks us, what more could I have done?

I've done everything possible to save you.

I've impressed your mind with my Holy Spirit.

I've arranged the providences in your life, but most of all, I've sent Jesus.

As we study this lesson, let's once again recognize that God has done everything he could to save us.

Father in heaven, we thank you for the opportunity to study the Sabbath School lesson today.

And I pray that as we study, that the Holy Spirit would come into our hearts and our minds, that you would strengthen us through this study to face life with your power, in your strength.

Then we thank you that you'll be with us in Christ's name, amen.

The lesson this week, What More Could I Have Done, is a fascinating lesson.

It starts with an interesting story, actually a children's story.

Dennis was an orphan taken into a family as a foster child.

But 1 day, the king whisked him away from that family, took him away.

And throughout his life, Dennis was bitter and angry and resentful to the king.

But then sometime later, he learned that the reason the king took him away was to save his life, because the black death had come through, and had he stayed in that family, he would have been afflicted, like his parents, with the black death.

So the king actually saved his life, but he didn't understand that.

As I thought of that story, I thought, you know, there are some people that are angry at God, some people that become quite bitter because of the affairs of their life, but in eternity, when the curtain is taken aside and we see reality like reality really is, we will learn that although we live in a world of good and evil, we live in a world where evil things take place, that Christ was constantly working to strengthen and support his people and to be with us.

We look, we jump right into Sunday's lesson.

The first section talks about Satan and his rulership, and the second section talks about God.

In the first section, and Sunday's lesson is entitled Christ is the victor, it points out that Scripture teaches that Satan 1 is the deceiver of the whole world from the beginning.

He's a liar from the beginning John 8 verse 44 He was cast out of heaven from the beginning, Revelation 12 9.

Revelation 12 10 says that he accuses God day and night.

And also he tries to usurp God's authority as ruler of the world.

So Satan is a deceiver, he's a slanderer, and he's a usurper.

The second part of Sunday's lesson points out that Jesus came into this world to testify of the truth about God.

Since Satan is a deceiver, since Satan slandered God and tries to usurp his authority, God, Jesus must set the record straight about God.

And so Jesus came to reveal the truth about God.

Through the cross, Jesus supremely demonstrates God's perfect righteousness and love.

And thirdly, Jesus will finally destroy the kingdom of evil.

So let's probe this thought that Jesus came to reveal the truth about God.

That truth is that God is love and he always has his best interest for his creatures.

Pilate, you remember Pilate's questioning Jesus, John 18 verse 37, Pilate therefore said to him, are you a king then?

Jesus answered, You say rightly that I'm a king.

For this cause I was born, and for this cause I've come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.

Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.

You know, then Pilate asked, what is truth?

And he never stays around to listen to the answer.

In the great controversy between good and evil, the truth is Satan's a liar, he's a slanderer.

He has sent misinformation about God to the world.

The truth is that God has our best interest in mind.

The truth is that God has given free will to every 1 of his creatures.

And that love demands that he gives free will.

And that God will never pressure or coerce us, but he's doing everything he can to save us.

The truth is that 1 day evil will be done away with.

In Monday's lesson, we read about the just and the justifier.

How does God, how does Jesus expose the works of Satan?

You remember in 1 John 3, verse 8, 1 John 3, verse 8, the Bible tells us that why Jesus came, 1 of the reasons why Jesus came.

And 1 John 3, 8 says this, it says, He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifest, for this purpose the Son of God was manifest, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

So Jesus came to this world to destroy the works of the devil.

Those works are accusation of God's character.

Those works are leading men and women to be separate from God.

As Isaiah chapter 59 says, your sins have separated you from God.

When the human race is separated from God, it's separated from the source of life, source of health, source of joy, source of happiness, source of meaning, and we're separated from the very life of God as in sin, and therefore the source of spirituality.

When we as believers come to Christ, God restores some of that which is lost, but it'll never be fully, completely, absolutely restored until we can come into the presence of Christ when Jesus comes again.

So, Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan.

How is it that Christ destroyed the works of Satan?

What is the greatest manifestation of this love?

Romans, the third chapter, and you're looking here at verses 23.

The scripture says, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

So sin is the common plague of the human race.

We have a disease that's deadly and fatal.

It says, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, verse 24, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth to be a propitiation by his blood through faith to demonstrate his righteousness because in his forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed.

To demonstrate at the present time his righteousness, that he might be just in the justifier of the 1 who has faith in Jesus.

So how does God demonstrate his righteousness?

How does God demonstrate the righteousness of God?

He demonstrates that righteousness through the supreme act of love dying for us in Calvary, Romans 5, verse 8.

But God demonstrates his own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

So the cross is the revelation of God's love.

The cross reveals how much God cares for us.

The cross reveals that heaven would give up its most priceless precious gift in Jesus to save us.

Isaiah talks about the song of the beloved in Isaiah chapter 5, verse 1 to 4.

It's a wonderful, wonderful song that God sings of how much he loves us.

You find it in Isaiah chapter 5 verse 1 to 4.

11 Healing from Grief

Coming to you from Silver Spring, Maryland, welcome to Inverse, a Bible-based conversation on life principles, contemporary issues, and thought-provoking perspectives.

Now here's your host, Justin Kim, with Inverse.

Hey everyone, my name's Justin and this is Inverse.

Every week, my friends and I, around this table, we talk about the Bible and some of the issues that we face in life and how the Bible addresses those issues.

In this arc, in this season that we're in, about 13 weeks, we've been looking at different principles, different issues, and different solutions when it comes to mental health.

On this week, we look at the issue of grief.

And if you have been a long time watcher of our show, we tend to sprinkle our conversations with a little bit of humor, just to make it a little bit digestible when it comes to grief.

And it's something that all of us, and if you haven't experienced already, you probably might soon in the future, we all experience this part of the human condition.

And if not dealt with, it can easily result in a lot of spiritual pain, mental pains, anguish, and we're gonna be looking at this.

If you don't know already, you can go to inversebible.org and look at the Bible study guides, especially on the topic called renewing the mind.

And we've addressed anxiety and stress and trusting in God and some of these spiritual aspects when it comes to mental health.

Again, the 4 of us are not health professionals, so we totally rely on the medical experts on this, and the psychiatrists when it comes to some of the more chemical imbalances and more of the neurological conditions that people may have.

But when it comes to scripture, there is a space where scripture talks about mental health issues.

So I do want to acknowledge my panelists here, my friends Sebastian, Joe, and Israel.

He's giving that Hawaiian greeting, even though he's not from Hawaii.

And we wanna say hello to you guys out there as well.

Our Father in heaven, as we delve into this difficult topic that many of us have gone through already, we pray that you would be with us, that you would give us insight, guidance, and most importantly, comfort as we Remember the different challenges that death brings to our lives and Jesus and we pray amen.

Amen Let me start before we actually read scripture, maybe I can ask a question to Joe is grief what role does it play?

Oh, that's gonna sound too philosophically and too vague.

I was gonna say, what role does it play in the human experience?

Should it play a role in the human experience?

Right as we read this verse that we will in a minute, it mentions sorrow, the word sorrow, which is a synonym for grief.

And that even believers that have hope in a resurrection in the future experience sorrow and experience grief.

It's a different kind because it's a sorrow that is mixed with hope.

But there's a lot of pain when we experience loss and there's no avoiding the pain.

It's very painful, but there's ways to go through it and to cope with it.

Grief is very different from the rest of the topics that we've talked about.

The others may be a result of sin, maybe self-induced, maybe for sure, on this side of Eden, if I can say that.

But grief is something that not intended for humanity, I guess is what I'm trying to say.

I mean, I guess they're all not intended for humanity, anxiety and stress and whatnot.

But yes, God never- It's inevitable that we experience grief.

And I figure we can go through a lot and to get an overall view of what scripture has to say about this experience.

We know that the scripture is very clear on what it teaches about state of the dead.

State of the dead is another way of saying what happens when you die?

And you can actually go to the same, the websites that I mentioned before, and there's Bible studies on what actually happens when you die.

You don't go upstairs and your floating thing doesn't go upstairs and whatnot.

That the body is sleeping until the resurrection.
