With Jesus in His Sanctuary

My name is Clayton, like was mentioned, and I will be sharing about the sanctuary.

And the topic today will go on till tonight, and we'll be doing some more later in the weekend on Friday and on Sabbath.

And we'll make more information on that available tonight.

But we're gonna get right started into this 1 because we wanna be done by 10 till, so you have plenty of time to meet your next appointment.

So, I'm going to go ahead and jump right in.

Now, the sanctuary, the topic of the sanctuary, most people look at that sanctuary as something dealing with the Old Testament, and they don't recognize the value of the sanctuary in the New Testament.

In fact, that's the way I believed when I was being raised up and was hearing about the sanctuary.

But over the years, I have learned that God's way is in the sanctuary.

Now, many people want to know how to find God.

But here He says that His way is in the sanctuary, so that's what I want to look at.

How can we find His way in the sanctuary.

So when we take a look at the different parts of the sanctuary, we take a look at the courtyard, the holy and the most holy place, we should be able to find His way there.

Now when sin came in, God could not stand in the presence of Adam and Eve any longer because of sin.

Sin would have been destroyed and them with the sin if they would have stayed in the presence.

So God had to separate himself from Adam and Eve.

But when Moses comes out of Egypt, and he brings all those people with him out of Egypt, then he says, God brings them up on the mountain, and he tells them this, make me a sanctuary that I might dwell among you.

So when you look at this, you know the sanctuary is designed for killing the lamb, putting the blood upon these different pieces of furniture, all that is a part of it, yes.

But look at what he says, build it so that I can dwell among you.

God is in heaven, he wanted to be close to his people, but he can't stand face to face because of sin.

So the sanctuary is gonna tell the story how he's gonna separate the sin.

So therefore you'll notice verse 9, it says you need to make it after the pattern that I showed you.

Because everything about the sanctuary was telling the story.

And if you have a story that's told many, many, many, many, many years, it loses something along the line.

So that today, while we're here, in this year, 2016, we can look back to what was told back then and have faith that nothing has changed.

Because they did it exactly the way God gave them instructions to do.

And as we go further, you'll see why it's so important that even the table of showbread being placed on the north side means something.

And we'll see that as we go on in a later lesson.

Okay, now, when the sanctuary was finished, they put it together and they reared it up.

And when they had finished building it up, you will notice that God does something.

Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and God's glory filled the temple.

So just exactly that was God had said here in Exodus chapter 40, it's telling us now when it's finished, God moved in.

Let Him make me a sanctuary, then God comes in.

This sanctuary, of course, was replaced by another 1.

We find in 2nd Chronicles 7.1, that when it was finished, God's glory filled the temple.

Now, what you're gonna find is the structure is different, but the services are the same.

That's what we're focusing on, the services.

They used the same types of furniture, things, the building was just bigger.

So that's the change that you see that took place from 1 sanctuary to the next.

Of course, you know the next sanctuary was the 1 that Zerubbabel built after Solomon's temple was destroyed.

You'll notice that Jesus enters into that sanctuary, and here in John 2.16, He sees them selling these doves and things inside the sanctuary.

They weren't following the pattern God had given.

They were messing up the plan of salvation.

They were misrepresenting God in how they were ministering there in the sanctuary at that particular moment, and Jesus chases out the money changers.

Then He said, "...make not My Father's house." So He calls at His Father's house.

So you have, make Me a sanctuary, I will come dwell with you.

The idea is, make Me my home and I'll be right there in your camp.

Okay, so now Jesus is calling this 1 his father's house.

Now you remember when Jesus was about to go to the cross?

You find this in John chapter 14, verses 1 and 2.

Most people here probably can quote it, but did you ever place it to the sanctuary?

See, it says, let not your heart be troubled.

Ye believe in God, believe also in Me." What does it say next?

You see, the idea that we get is we see an earthly sanctuary, and that's what we think about when we think about the sanctuary.

But reality was God gave them that sanctuary so that God could have them act out the things that God was going to do in His sanctuary, which is His house, which He says You are going to live with Him someday.

So we don't know how big it is, but we know the furniture and the services represented something.

In fact, in Jeremiah chapter 17, verse 12, it even states this, that there's a glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

The sanctuary in heaven, that's God's house, we're going to see some verses on that in just a moment.

And so therefore, Jesus comes to this earth, And when Jesus is on this earth to do the work of the courtyard, before He went to heaven to do the work of the Holy and Most Holy Place, while He was upon this earth, John looks at Jesus and points to Him.

We see here in John 1.29, He sees him and he points to him and he says, Behold the Lamb of God.

You know, that's not something that we would normally hear somebody say.

See, they had a service that they did every day.

They had work that they did in the sanctuary that killed the lamb.

That lamb was pointing forward to the 1 day Christ was coming.

So John basically says, there He is, the 1 who's going to do the work of the sanctuary.

And you'll notice that Jesus dies, because we do know that God gave us Jesus.

And what John 3, 16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.

Now, after His death, we find that's when the veil rips inside the holy place of the sanctuary.

Which is very significant, because that veil-ripping now basically says, there's nothing sacred about this 1 any longer.

Because the work that was being done in the courtyard has now finished, Now the work has to begin in the real heavenly sanctuary.

So the earthly sanctuary has now met its fulfillment.

So now Jesus, after that, He goes to heaven.

Now what we're going to see on Sabbath lesson is we're going to see how this plays out.

It's very, very significant where Jesus sets beside the Father, especially when you consider the possibility, Where did Jesus go when He dies?

Lions, Leopards and Bears ... Oh My!

God's book, the Bible, still relevant in today's complex world.

It is written sharing messages of hope around the world.

Friends, as we began this series, we introduced a very powerful principle that helps us to determine whether our claims about the knowledge we have are certain.

Simply stated, this principle is the principle of probability and what it reveals is that extremely small probabilities point to certainty and eliminate chance as an explanation.

So this principle of probability, when applied to the existence of God and the reliability of His Word, it soundly demonstrates that God is real and that this Bible can be trusted.

Some of the greatest evidence of all of this is found in prophecy.

Now over the course of our study, the first 6 chapters of Daniel demonstrated probability through seeing some incredible things that defied simple chance as an explanation.

That was most especially the case in King Nebuchadnezzar's dream of Daniel 2 that Daniel interpreted.

That dream outlined over 2, 500 years of history in advance.

Simply amazing, But more than amazing, it points to the existence of an all-knowing, all-powerful God who cares and interacts with us as His creation.

Now this week, as we turn our attention to the prophetic section of the book of Daniel and open the pages of the Bible to Daniel 7.

This chapter introduces us to a very sinister power that does all kinds of things against God and against God's people.

In fact, His attacks are so devastating that Daniel wants to make sure that God's people are able to identify this menacing agent of evil.

Let's turn in our Bibles to Daniel, the seventh chapter, verses 1 through 7.

In the first year of Belshazzar, king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed.

Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts.

Daniel spoke, saying, I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the 4 winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea, and 4 great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.

The first was like a lion and had ingles wings.

I watched till its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted, lifted up from the earth and made to stand on 2 feet like a man.

And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear, it was raised up on 1 side and had 3 ribs in its mouth between its teeth.

And they said thus to it, arise, devour much flesh.

After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back 4 wings of a bird.

The beast also had 4 heads, and dominion was given to it.

After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong.

It was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet.

It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had 10 horns.

What should stand out first about this amazing dream is that these creatures, these creatures will never be seen in any of your local zoos.

Each of these animals violate the very laws of nature.

I mean, Have you ever seen a lion with eagle's wings, or a leopard with 4 wings and 4 heads?

As we look at this passage, there are 4 symbols that we need to interpret or understand.

The winds, the great sea, the beasts, and the horns.

Now our mission here at It Is Written is to instill the understanding that the Bible interprets itself.

And so each of these are symbolic representations of something else.

Well, if we go to the book of Jeremiah, Jeremiah chapter 51, there in Jeremiah 51 in verse 1, the Bible is quite clear about what these winds are.

God said that he would send a destroying wind against Babylon.

He was speaking of the strife and destruction caused by the Medo-Persians.

This means that wind represents strife and destruction.

Well, Revelation 17, 15 is actually quite clear when it states, The waters which you saw are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.

Thus, the great sea represents peoples or a populous place.

That still leaves us wondering about those beasts.

Daniel 7.17 helps us answer that question.

Those great beasts are 4 kings which arise out of the earth.

A bit later In verse 23 it says, the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon the earth.

Now the beasts represent kingdoms, empires.

Now interestingly enough, Daniel 7.24 declares that the 10 horns are 10 kings.

Well, let's look at the specific symbols and see what they might mean.

Now the first symbol that we had is a lion with eagle's wings.

Friends, it is a fitting symbol of Babylon, which came to power in 605 BC.

Now remarkably enough, Jeremiah chapter 4 and verse 7 and Jeremiah chapter 50 verses 17 and 44 refer to Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon as a lion that has arisen out of his lair to destroy the nations.

In addition, the winged lion is 1 of the forms that is often pictured in art and inscriptions in combat with Marduk.

Marduk was the patron god of the city of Babylon.

But Daniel informs us that the wings were plucked off of that lion and a man's heart was given to it.

What an apt description of the fate of Babylon.

After Nebuchadnezzar's death, Babylon lost much of its prestige, much of its power, and it ultimately became a weak and enfeebled nation.

Now it is here that I want to introduce you to how Hebrew thinking works.

It is something called recapitulation or simply repeat and enlarge.

Now our western minds don't quite work like those from the East, but here's the basic concept.

Something is said, then that same thing is repeated or restated with greater detail, but possibly in a bit different language.

Daniel 7 is a recapitulation, or a repeating and enlarging of Daniel 2.

It is a restatement of the world's history of empires, but with greater detail.

And so this description of Babylon as the lion parallels that of Daniel 2 and Babylon being represented as the head of gold.

But after the two-winged lion, on the scene, a bear shows up.

It's a bear raised up on 1 side with 3 ribs in its mouth.

As you could probably guess, this bear represents the Medo-Persian Empire.

And although Daniel 7 does not mention who the 3 ribs represent, history reveals that they were symbols of the 3 principal powers of Lydia, Babylon, and Egypt that were conquered by the combined forces of the Medes and the Persians, who came to power around 539 BC.

Now, what makes this symbol additionally fascinating is the reality that when these powers came together, the Medes were actually the stronger of the 2.

However, over time, the Persians grew in strength and became so strong that most history books today simply refer to it as the Persian Empire.

This symbol of the bear parallels the chest and arms of Silver from Daniel 2.

But the bear is moved aside by an even stranger-looking creature, a leopard with 4 wings and 4 heads.

Now, this bizarre-looking beast represents the kingdom of Greece.

Now like the other beasts, leopards are fierce and carnivorous.

Yet they have the added advantage of being swift and agile.

Even more, this beast has 4 wings which denotes its incredible speed and agility.

In fact, it's almost inadequate to describe the amazing speed of Alexander the Great's conquest of the known world.

Astonishingly, in less than a decade, Alexander and his army came into possession of the greatest empire the world had ever seen at the time.

1 commentator put it this way, there is no other example in ancient times of such rapid movements of troops on so large and successful a scale.

In 331 BC, Alexander's army decisively defeated the Persians in the famous Battle of Arbella.

Yet Alexander's kingdom would not last very long.

Alexander could conquer the world, but he could not conquer himself.

He died from his own lustful exuberance, and on his deathbed was asked who would succeed him.

He simply answered these words, he who is strongest.

Greece was weakened by internal strife and civil war.

The 4 heads of the leopard represent the 4 kingdoms that occupied the territory of Alexander's conquest.

Onward and Upward - Maintaining the Vision for Medical Evangelism

In this last presentation, I was given the title, Onward and Upward, Maintaining the Vision for Medical Evangelism.

And, you know, I just would like to break down my presentation, first of all, by reading from the Bible the promise that God has given for us.

Secondly, I would like to highlight some of the issues or challenges that are faced by medical practitioners.

And thirdly, I want to highlight, or I want to give rather 3 challenges for every individual in this room.

So that as we leave this place, we can something to look forward to.

Or, you know, just like at school, right?

If you don't give homework, what would happen?

The next time the teacher sees you again, most likely your knowledge has not increased, correct?

Because often if there is no something object, you know, that we can action on it, then rarely we actually accountable to that 1.

So let's turn your Bible to the book of John, chapter 14, and we're gonna take from verse 12 and verse 13.

Now we know that John chapter 14, in my view, is probably 1 of the most powerful chapter because it contains a lot of promise.

And that's also the chapter whereby Jesus promised the Holy Spirit.

But I want to highlight in verse 12 and verse 13, And let this be the promise that we take home.

John 14 verse 12, the Bible says, this is Jesus saying, Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will what?

Do also and greater works than this he will do because I go to my father.

Verse 13 and whatever you ask in my name that I will do that the Father may be glorified in the Son, verse 14, if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

I cannot find any promise in the Bible that is more powerful than that in the work of evangelism.

The Bible says, he who believes in me, the work that I do, he will do also.

My question to you, what works did Jesus do when he was on the face of the earth?

Exactly like Pastor Yildon saying yesterday, right?

He was preaching, he was teaching, and he was healing.

My question to you, was Jesus' work powerful or not?

His work was really powerful to the point that it changes the world, right?

He said, if you believe in me, you will do the work that I do, which is already powerful.

And then he adds on, but greater work than this.

Can you imagine to make Jesus' work better?

I mean, I don't think so, but Jesus is alluding in this text anyway, that if we are committed to him, we will be able to do greater work than this.

And by the way, he adds a promise as well.

And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do that the father may be glorified and the son.

If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

My question, who is going to do the work?

1 Thessalonians 5 24, faithful is he who calleth you who also will what?
