Jesus said, many are called but few are chosen.

But of those who fight on the side of the Lamb, of those who compose his last legion, this text, my text tonight says they are called and chosen and faithful.

Somehow, my dear friends, there is growing in my soul a great yearning to have done with the type of education which is concerned with preparing people to live in this world, and settle down, and feather their nests, and keep on that long, long cycle that has been going on in this world so long, 1 generation after the other.

My soul is longing to see some people prepared, a Gideon's band, who will feel that the 1 thing in life is to do the job for which we've been born, do the work to which we've been called, On with the battle and get it over.

There'll be eternity for a good many things.

But eternity can never dawn till time is finished.

Peace can never come till the war is over.

These, that is the powers of earth, shall make war with the Lamb.

And the Lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings.

And they that are with him are called and chosen and faithful." That's why the Lamb is going to win.

He's Lord of all, and friends, he's always been Lord of all.

But the second reason is, they that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.

You remember the beautiful picture of those that are with him.

I looked in Lola and stood on the Mount Zion and we and him and 140 and 4, 000 having his father's name written in their forests.

To develop that 144, 000 group, And I'm not concerned with the numbering friends.

There's some people that feel that's far too few.

I'm willing for it to be friends just as many as can be gotten in.

I'm not concerned with cutting anybody off, or crowding anybody out.

But every time I begin to study and meditate on what it takes to be in that number, I wonder in my soul how God is going to find 144, 000 individuals like that.

We're told that we're to strive with all our powers to be among the hundred and forty-four thousand.

Strive with all our powers to be among the 144, 000.

Why do you want to be among the 144, 000?

But to my mind, Dear friends, the great reason is that we may have the privilege of sharing with Jesus in the last great battle over the character of God and help to vindicate that character and to bring joy to the heart of our Redeemer.

As the shot of triumph rings through the universe, and the banner of triumph is planted on the eternal height.

Quite a number of you here tonight are young people.

I'd like to speak especially to our young people tonight, you dear young men and women who have no encumbrances, no encumbrances.

You know for decades now, God has been looking with anxious heart as 1 generation after another has come to that point in their teens and twenties where life lies ahead and where they make the choice as to what they will do.

They proceed they proceed to encumber themselves with all manner of problems and burdens and difficulties, so that they can do very, very little for Jesus.

There isn't an army in this world, my friends, that could fight a war and win it with the amount of time, and the amount of service, and the amount of attention, undivided, that most people today who claim to be candidates for this last legion are giving to the cause of Jesus Christ.

I say there isn't an army anywhere in this world that could fight a war and win it, with the amount of attention, undivided, that most people are giving to the cause of Jesus Christ today.

We have to have this, and we have to have that.

Well, that's expected, that's a part of life.

If we can do a little missionary work on the side, well that's fine.

But the great thing is to live life, to do this thing and that thing that's the expected thing in life.

Someday my friends, somebody, several somebodies, only a few but enough, are going to get the vision of having done with many of these commonplace things.

Giving their lives to 1 thing, the finishing of the work of God.

And it could all have been done, my friends.

It could all have been done 80 years and more ago if God could have found some young people who would get that vision in their youth and refuse to be burdened and bound down with many of the encumbrances and responsibilities that people take upon themselves, which keeps them from doing the 1 thing that God has called for in the finishing of his work.

Oh, I trust, I trust that somebody here tonight will get it.

I want to assure you, my dear friends, it's amazing what even 1 young person that gets this vision can do.

If you remember the story over in the 20th of Deuteronomy, or rather the instruction that bears upon the story which we shall refer to later, the judges.

This 20th of Deuteronomy is the instruction of the Lord to Moses, telling him what to have the children of Israel do whenever there was a war to be fought.

It was written down here so that you and I today could have the benefit of it.

Third verse says that the priest should tell the people if they didn't need to faint that God was going to be with them.

The fourth verse, God will fight for you against your enemies to save you.

Then the officers, the fifth verse, were to speak to the people.

They were to say, is there any man here that's come out here to fight in this battle that's built a new house?

But he hasn't dedicated yet, hasn't dedicated yet.

And somehow, as I see the trumpet put to the lips, and as I hear that call sounded out over the army, I see a man here and a man there, but there's a smile that comes across his face.

And he says, that's me, I'm so glad I won't have to go.

So he gathers up his few belongings and he hustles home.

He comes in, he breaks the news to all his loved ones he says isn't it wonderful I don't have to go.

Well I've got this house, this new house to look after.

They were to say further, what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it?

Let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it." Did you ever hear of any nation under heaven except Israel that had any such law as this, Frank?

Gather everybody to the battle, but before they go, stop everybody and say, Is there anybody here that's planted a vineyard and you haven't eaten of it yet?

Crops coming on this year, a little, but I haven't eaten of it yet.

Well, that's all right, then you're excused.

Going to really let me go on that account?

That's fine, I'm sure glad I planted that vineyard.

And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife and hath not taken her?

Let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

Why yes, they look out over that great sea of heads.

Any of you fellows here, that are getting ready to be married?

That's all right, you're excused, you don't have to go.

And I suppose that there were some who envied those men who were excused.

Those that had just built a new house, or those that had just planted a vineyard, or those that were about to marry a wife.

And then when they got all through with that, they said now besides all these we've let go, there may be some others here that we ought to let go.

Is there anybody here that's fearful and faint-hearted?

Most anybody could qualify on that couldn't they?

Here now is HMS Richards, the voice of prophecy speaker.

Many philosophers and thinkers have tried to explain it.

The only explanation which a Christian can accept is that which is given in Holy Scripture.

There is a great controversy raging between Christ and Satan, between good and evil.

It began, as far as this world is concerned at man's fall, but it had its origin in heaven.

Certain angel beings rebelled against God and his government.

Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon fought against his angels and prevailed not.

Neither was there place found anymore in heaven.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world, he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

It was in this way that the forces of evil came into this world of ours.

It's the plan of these fallen angels to put into the very heart of man their own spirit of disobedience, rebellion.

If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness.

Lucifer, whose name means light bearer, 1 of the high angels of heaven, became Satan the adversary, the prince of darkness.

The very spirit of pride and egotism shown in Tyre of old was manifest also in the god of this world, Satan.

Declaring his message of rebuke to the prince of that ancient city, the Lord describes the cause and history of Lucifer's fall in Ezekiel 28, verse 13.

Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God, he said.

Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth, and I have set thee so.

Thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty.

Thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness." Notice, he was an anointed cherub, a mighty angel by the side of the very throne of God.

In the ancient temple of Solomon, 2 golden cherubim or angels stood, 1 on either side of the holy ark of God.

So in heaven Lucifer was originally 1 of these covering cherubs, right by the throne of God himself.

Perfect is created, but iniquity was found in him.

His heart was lifted up because of his beauty and wisdom.

Here's another picture of that rebellion.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, or day star, as we read in the margin, sun of the morning?

How art thou cast down to the ground which didst weaken the nations?

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north.

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.

I will be like the Most High." You see, he wanted to be like God.

He envied the glory and power of his Creator.

As a result, he and his host were cast out of heaven.

Jesus said, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

03. Jeremiah: The Last Five Kings of Judah

Welcome to an in-depth exploration of the Book of Jeremiah Written by Imre Tokic, Ph.D., LLD Edited for audio and produced by The Ambassador Group Exploration 3 The Last 5 Kings of Judah He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well.

Famed Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky spent 4 years in a Siberian prison in the 1800s for subversive political activities.

Later, writing about his experiences, he talked about some of his fellow prisoners' utter lack of remorse for their terrible behavior.

Quote, in the course of several years, I have never saw a sign of repentance among these people, not a trace of despondent brooding over their crimes, and the majority of them inwardly considered themselves absolutely in the right." absolutely in the right." So wrote Joseph Frank on page 95 of his book entitled Dostoevsky, The Years of Ordeal, 1850 through 1859.

Dostoevsky could have been talking about, with the exception of Josiah, the 5 kings who ruled Judah during the ministry of Jeremiah.

1 after another, these men seemed totally unrepentant for their actions, even as it became clearer and clearer that their actions were bringing the calamities that the Lord, through Jeremiah, had warned would come.

It had never been God's intention to give Israel a king.

By the end of this exploration, you will better understand why.

You will understand too the severe pressure that poor Jeremiah faced during much of his unappreciated ministry.

Under the Rule of Josiah Josiah was the 16th king to rule in the Southern Kingdom.

He became king at the age of 8, after more than half a century of moral and spiritual decline under his father Amon and grandfather Manasseh, 2 of the most evil kings in Judah.

Unlike his ancestors, however, Josiah did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, despite an environment that worked against him.

Born of a wicked king, beset with temptations to follow in his father's steps and with few counselors to encourage him in the right way, Josiah nevertheless was true to the God of Israel.

Warned by the errors of past generations, he chose to do right instead of descending to the low level of sin and degradation to which his father and his grandfather had fallen.

What were the components of Josiah's reform, and why would they be central to any attempt at spiritual reformation, be it corporate or personal?

Second Chronicles chapter 34 tells the story.

Josiah was 8 years old when he became king, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

He did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, forefather, and did not turn aside either to the right or to the left.

For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was Still young, 16, he began to seek after and inquire of the God of his father David.

And in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherim, and the carved and cast images.

They tore down the altars of the Baals in his presence, for he cut to pieces the incense altars that were high above them.

He also smashed the Asherim and the carved images and the cast images to pieces, and ground them to dust and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed them.

Then Josiah burned the bones of the pagan priests on their altars and purged and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

In the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their surrounding ruins, he tore down the altars and beat and crushed the asherim and the carved images into powder, and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout the land of Israel.

Josiah Repairs the Temple In the eighteenth year of Josiah's reign, when he had purged the land and the Lord's house, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Masih, the governor of the city, and Joah, the son of Johaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God.

When they came to Hilkiah, the high priest, they delivered the money that had been brought into the house of God, which the Levites, who guarded the doors, had collected from Manasseh and Ephraim, and from all the remnant of Israel, and from all Judah and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Then they gave it to the workmen who were appointed over the house of the Lord, and the workmen who were working in the house of the Lord gave it to others to repair and restore the house, the temple.

They in turn gave it to the carpenters and builders to buy quarried stone and timber for couplings, trusses, braces, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had let go to ruin.

The men did the work faithfully, with foremen over them, to supervise and inspect their work, Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Mishulam of the sons of the Kohaphites and the Levites, all who were skillful with musical instruments.

They were also in charge of the burden-bearers, who carried loads, and supervised all the workmen in any kind of service, and some of the Levites were scribes and officials and gatekeepers.

Hilkiah discovers the lost book of the law.

When they were bringing out the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord given by Moses.

Hilkiah told Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord, and he gave the book to Shaphan.

Shaphan brought the book to the king, but first reported further to him, Your servants are doing everything that was entrusted to them.

They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and have delivered it into the hands of the overseers and the workmen.

Then Shaphan, the scribe, told the king, Hilkiah the priest has given me a book, and Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.

When the king heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.

Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahicham, the son of Shaphan, Abdon, the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Uzziah, a servant of the king, saying, Go inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, in regard to the words of the book which has been found.

For great is the wrath of the Lord, which has been poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept and obeyed the word of the Lord to act in accordance with everything that's written in this book.

So Hilkiah and those whom the king had told went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shalom, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hazrah, keeper of the wardrobe.

Now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter, and they spoke to her about this.

And she answered them, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, tell the man who sent you to me.

Thus says the Lord, Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book, which they have read in the presence of the King of Judah, because they have abandoned, rejected me, and have burned incense to other gods in order to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands.

My wrath will be poured out on this place and it will not be extinguished.

There is a footnote regarding God's wrath not being extinguished which says, in 2 Chronicles 34 25, God's wrath would not be extinguished, but that does not mean it would go on forever.

It means it will consume all of what it was meant to consume.

Verse 26 says, But you shall say the following to King Josiah of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord.

Thus says the Lord God of Israel concerning the words which you have heard, because your heart was gentle and penitent, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and its inhabitants, and humbled yourself before Me, and tore your clothes and wept before me.

I also have heard you, declares the Lord.

Behold, I will gather you to your fathers in death, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil which I'm going to bring on this place and on its inhabitants.' So they brought back word to the king.

Then the king sent word and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

And the king went up to the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites, and all the people, from the greatest to the least.

And he read aloud, so they could hear all the words of the book of the covenant, which was found in the house of the Lord.

Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after and obey the Lord, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul to perform the words of the covenant written in this book.

Further, he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin stand with him in confirmation of it.
