Children Should Not Be Childish

As you can see I have not recovered the voice but I told the Lord I came too far to stay in the room and not make an attempt to speak to you.

Ellen White said there were times when she was weak, had no voice, but she went to the pulpit anyway and in the process of speaking the Lord made her strong.

But I'm not a prophet so what I hope that in the process of speaking God's words and as you pray, that I will have sufficient vocal power to present this message, which is entitled, Children Should Not Be Childish.

Father in heaven, I ask in the name of Jesus, your son, my brother, my savior, Come very close to all of us, dear God.

In this final presentation, give me the right words, the right ideas, the right spirit.

Father, if you hadn't put your words in my mouth on previous occasions.

Strengthen this voice that you've given to me as I try to use it for your glory.

Let your spirit, dear God, administer the words to every listening heart.

At the end of this presentation, Father, let decisions be made for the advancement of your kingdom, for the salvation of souls.

Jeremiah chapter 1, reading from verse 4.

I read from the King James version of the Bible.

Then the word of the Lord came unto me saying, Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee.

And before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctify thee and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations that's what God tells Jeremiah.

Verse 6, Then said I, Our Lord, behold, I cannot speak.

Jeremiah as a man tells God, I'm a child.

In all my years of preaching and going around God's green earth, I've run into a lot of people who told me, I can't do that.

Forgetting that with God, All things are possible.

When God sent the disciples on the great gospel commission, you know it very well and Jesus came and spake unto them saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

The word therefore is the result of the fact that I have all power.

When I send you, I am sending you in the power that is mine.

When you go on a mission authorized by someone who has all power, your concern should not be power.

Because he has assured you Because verse 20 says, lo, I am with you all way even unto the end of the world.

Now, if he has all power and he's with you, what is with you?

Let me make a statement that may shock you.

All the resources of the universe are under Christ's control for the benefit of the church.

As Ephesians 1 twenty-one tells us and I've put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.

All the resources of the universe are under the control of Christ for the benefit of the church and so Jeremiah said, ah lord behold, I cannot speak for I am a child But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child.

That's a very powerful psychological principle.

There are some things we should not hear ourselves saying.

Any good teacher will tell you that he or she will not tolerate a child in a class saying, I cannot do algebra.

The teacher will say, no, don't say that.

Because the moment you say, I cannot, that enters your head and it's in there.

And as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

And so when Jeremiah said, Ah Lord behold I cannot speak for I am a child.

But the Lord said unto me, say not, I am a child, for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee and whatsoever I command thee, thou shalt speak.

Now, you may consider yourself a child if you go to speak your words.

But if you're going to speak the words I give you, you're not a child.

Be not afraid of the faces for I'm with thee to deliver thee saith the lord.

Then the Lord put forth his hand and touched my mouth.

And the Lord said unto me, behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

When Jeremiah said, I am a child, I cannot speak, God said, don't say that.

It didn't mean, what he's saying was I'm incapable.

But when you work with God, you don't discuss lack of capability.

So, when God said, say not your child, it didn't mean that Jeremiah was the most gifted people on earth, person on earth.

It's simply meant God wanted him to put the focus not on him but on God.

And so the Bible says, I can do how many things?

And to let Jeremiah know that God was serious when he said, don't say your child.

The Bible says, then the Lord put forth his hand and touch my mouth.

Now, if he had said, I cannot run, the Lord would not have touched his mouth.

If he had said, I cannot jump, the Lord might have touched his gluteal muscles.

The lord directs his power precisely where it is needed.

Let us see an example of someone else called by god claiming the inability to speak.

Our subject, children should not be childish.

Do you have Exodus chapter 4 reading from verse 10?

And Moses said unto the Lord, oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant, but I am slow speech and of a slow tongue.

Now, Moses does not say I'm a child, he simply says I can't speak.

Now, the Bible says that Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in word and deed.

In Love, and Lost

Loving Father in heaven, I come to you weak, frail, human, and a sinner, but a sinner who loves you and loves to preach the word, direct, clear, and bold, that people may fall in love with you.

They may know right from wrong, dear Father.

And so I ask you very simply to do for me what you promised to do for Moses when you said to him in Exodus chapter 4 verse 12, Now therefore go and I will be with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shall say.

Teach me now I pray and teach your people in Jesus name, Amen.

Let's read some familiar passages in the Bible.

This is Jesus Christ speaking and if you have a red letter Bible, the words should be in red.

If ye love me, finish the verse, keep my commandments.

God says, the way to show your love for me is to do what I say.

If you love me and god leaves it up to you and to me to decide if we love him.

He does not say because you love me, then he would be assuming you say you love me, keep my commandments.

He that hath my commandments, I should say, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me.

So he's repeating in 21 what he said in 15.

If you love me, keep my commandments and he says, he that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me.

Jesus answered and said unto him, if a man love me, he will keep my word.

If a man love me, he will keep my word or my commandment.

Verse twenty-one, he that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me.

The Bible doesn't say if you love me, tell me.

1st John chapter 5, reading verses 2 and 3.

By this we know that we love the children of God when we do what?

Love God, finish the verse, and keep his commandments.

Or you could say when we love God by keeping his commandments.

Loving God and keeping his commandments are not really 2 different things.

The obedience is just the love in action.

Where there's no obedience, there's no love.

James 2 26 says, for as the spirit without the body, as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.

You can apply that to love and obedience.

I want the reassurance that I'm getting through to you.

Where there is no obedience, there is no love.

For this is love that we keep his commandments and his commandments are not grievous.

So the Bible is saying if you want to find someone who loves God, look for someone who will do whatever he says.

Don't look for the person who says he loves God.

Look for the person who does what God says.

That's biblical identification of a lover of God.

Now we go to 2nd John and we'll read verse 6.

When you read from a Bible book that only has 1 chapter, you just call the verse.

I just thought I'd let you know that so you can be sophisticated in your practice of your religion.

This is love that we keep his commandments.

This is the love of God that we keep his commandments.

John is stressing love, obedience, love obedience.

There is no love where there is no obedience.

Now, you can have church membership without obedience.

You can be a church member and not obey God.

You cannot be a child of God and not obey God.

He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me.

And he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.

We talked about that this morning in our smaller session, talked about spiritual excellence.

There is a level of interaction with God that is only possible to those who obey him.

There is a revelation of God's love, a deeper revelation of God's love that is only given to those who obey him.

He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me, and he that loveth me shall be loved of my father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.

And 23 says, if a man love me, he will keep my word and my father will love him and we will come unto him and make our board with him.

They are tremendous benefits to loving god which is another way of saying they are tremendous benefits to obeying god.

Now, we've established that love is obedience Then, flip that.

As difficult as it may be for you to say it.

Now, remember, when you study the Bible, you must not study the Bible from your point of view.

You must study the Bible from God's point of view.

We also went through that yesterday I believe in 1 of my sessions.

Better Than the Best

Our Father and our God, we thank you for life.

We thank you dear Father for the high privilege of cooperating with you in the plan and the carrying out, in the carrying out of the plan of salvation.

Father, as I attempt to deliver this message, I ask in the name of Jesus Christ to possess my mind, possess every faculty you've entrusted to me.

Help me to speak directly, boldly, but compassionately, for I too am a sinner.

Let my words be simple, dear God, that the truth from your throne may be grasped by everyone listening.

Let it not only affect those present now, but those who will listen to the recorded version of this message and all other messages of this conference.

We read from the King James Version of the Bible, Mark 12, reading from verse 28.

Mark is Gospel number 2, the shortest of the 4 Gospels.

Of the 4 Gospel writers, 2 were not disciples that followed Christ.

The Bible says, and 1 of the scribes came.

And having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he answered them well, asked him, which is the first commandment of all?

And Jesus answered him, the first of all the commandments is, hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is 1 Lord.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.

And the second is like namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

There is none other commandment greater than these.

Describe said unto him, well master thou has said the truth for there is 1 God and there's none other but he and to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the soul and with all the strength and to love his neighbor as himself.

More than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Now this is a remarkable statement from the scribe.

The scribe says, there is something that is greater than all sacrifices put together.

And it begins with whole burnt offerings, which was the fundamental offering offered long before all the various varieties were offered in the wilderness.

When Cain and Abel came to worship, it is certain that the offering Abel offered was a burnt offering.

The offering that Noah offered when he came out of the ark, in Genesis 8, 20 and 21, was a burnt offering specifically named.

It was the offering prior to all the details of the sacrificial system given to the Israelites when they left Egypt.

The scribe says, to do this, love God, love your neighbor more than yourself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Now what was the reaction of Jesus to this conclusion by described.

Verse 34 the Bible says, And when Jesus saw that he answered how?

Discreetly, meaning wisely, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

Jesus agreed that there is something greater, broader, higher and deeper than all sacrifices combined.

Our subject for this evening, Better Than The Best.

The apostle Paul writing, read verses 5 and 6.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, what?

Sacrifices and offerings thou wouldest not.

Verse 6, in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, who is that?

In other words, that's not what you really want.

7 and 8, that's where that quotation is drawn from.

Let's go to Psalm 51, our subject, better than the best.

He is confessing his terrible sin against Uriah and against Bathsheba.

I recommend that psalm for your memorization.

Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy what?

And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Now this is David under the guidance of the Holy Ghost.

David says, thou desirest not sacrifice else would I give it.

A broken spirit and a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

David is saying what God really wants is not sacrifice.

And so the scribe said that Jesus agreed.

Jesus said that when he came into the world, David says that.

Let's go to Isaiah 1, reading from verse 11.

Isaiah 1, reading from verse 11, our subject, Better Than the Best.

I'll try to make this presentation short tonight.

The Bible says, to what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me, saith the Lord?

Now who instituted the sacrificial system?

The same God is saying, why do you bring these sacrifices?

I am full of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts.

The High Cost of Living

Father in heaven, give me peace of mind as I deliver this message.

Let not the enemy make me so angry, dear God, that it affects my preaching of your word.

Bless my brothers and sisters, dear Father, because I do not, they believe they do what they do out of malice or spite towards you.

And let everything I say be said out of love for you and love for your children.

Bless every man, woman, boy and girl under the sound of my voice.

Please Father, Use me for your glory alone.

The Bible says, And he called unto him the 12 and began to send them forth by 2 and 2 and gave them power over unclean spirits.

Verse 12, and they went out and preached that men should repent.

Verse 13, and they cast out many devils and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

Verse 13 tells us of the miraculous works the disciples did.

And they cast out many devils and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

Question, how were they able to heal and cast out devils?

The answer is in verse 7 which tells us, and he gave them power.

I want you to visualize Jesus giving the disciples power.

In other words, something left Christ and went to them.

Let us see that more clearly dramatized in Mark chapter 5.

Mark 5, Reading from verse 25, the Bible says, And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood 12 years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind and touched his clothes, for she said, for his garment, for she said, if I may touch but his clothes I shall be what?

And straightway, the Bible says, the fountain of her blood was dried up.

Now read the next few words with me if you have the King James Version, and she what?

When you read the Bible, read the Bible microscopically.

The Bible says, and straightway, the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt.

The only way to have a sensation is to have 1 or more of the 5 senses.

Sight, hearing, speech, smell, taste, and touch.

The Bible says, and Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press and said, who touched me?

The woman felt something and Jesus felt something.

Jesus Christ felt it when the power left him.
