We Are Still His Witnesses

Our Heavenly Father, I just want to thank You for Your goodness to us.

When Isaiah saw You high and lifted up on His throne, your throne.

And I say with Isaiah, woe is me, for I too am a man of unclean lips.

We pray for that angel today who will touch our lips and our ears and our hearts.

And may the living Christ ever be in clear vision before us.

May He be so precious to each of us that we can give this testimony that we'd rather have Jesus than anything this world has to offer.

We worship our precious Savior and the precious Holy Spirit.

We worship our God, who alone can deliver us from this wretched world.

Thank you Arden, I really appreciate you.

I enjoyed the Sabbath school lesson this morning with Ryan.

It was a wonderful Sabbath school lesson.

And thank you, Daniel, for last night and this morning helping me out and others.

Esther, thank you for taking care of all the things you have to make my trip good.

You have your Bibles this morning I want to talk about, we are still his witnesses, and I would like if you don't mind turning to Acts chapter 4 this morning.

This is the next scene after the day of Pentecost.

I don't know how much time lapsed between Pentecost and here, maybe a few days, maybe a few weeks, but we find some very fascinating things going on.

Pentecost, you hear Peter preaching powerfully, and then now we find him and John in chapter 4, chapter 3, chapter 4, and something great has really happened.

I'm gonna look at chapter 3 first to start if you don't mind.

Then Peter said to this crippled man who was well-known, silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." That is a powerful exhibition of faith on the Apostle Peter.

This is a different man than the man who ran for his life, who denied the Savior, who went out and wept bitterly.

Ellen White says, and I think it's Acts of the Apostles, that to the day Peter died, he never forgave himself for that act of denial.

Never forgave himself, but he knew he was forgiven.

And so rather than be crucified the way Jesus was crucified, He requested to be crucified upside down.

This is a different man than when at the trial of Jesus.

He stands there, crowds of people around.

I don't have silver or gold, but He had something far better and so does every 1 of us.

If you have the living Christ living in you, if you have Christ in you, the hope of glory, you have something that no 1 else has.

If they have all the world, If they have all the kingdoms of the world, if you have that, that is power and wonder.

Took him by the hand, look at verse 8, so he's leaping up, stood and walked, entered the temple.

Verse 9, and all the people saw him praising God.

Verse 12, so when Peter saw it, he responded to the people, men of Israel, why do you marvel at this?

As though our poor power, our godliness, by our own power, our godliness, we made this man walk.

And then Peter does something he does on the day of Pentecost, looking at verse 14.

But you, this is pretty powerful preaching.

This is a man that has been broken at Calvary's cross and he's unafraid of man and he's unafraid of the world and he doesn't care about their applause.

But you denied the Holy 1 and the just and asked for a murder to be granted to you.

And killed the Prince of Life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are His witnesses." You hear the Apostles coming back to that theme again and again.

And they preached it and taught it with such conviction because it was the truth of the living God.

If you go to chapter 4, This kind of preaching is going to cause trouble.

By the way, for what it's worth, department, good, solid, biblical preaching will both heal and comfort and cause trouble.

Just have to look at it in the scripture every time.

Chapter 4 verse 1, And as they spoke to the people, the priest and the captain of the temple, the Sadducees came upon them, verse 2, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus and the resurrection of the dead.

This resurrection of Jesus was something that they didn't want to hear.

First of all you've got the Sadducees who didn't even believe in the resurrection.

They were the guys that connected to Rome.

And now they are fronted with the evidence and they're basically angry.

They can't deny the evidence, but they're angry.

Which often happens when people are under conviction.

People get angry when they get under conviction because they don't have to believe what their senses are telling them.

Kind of reminds me of the world we live in.

1 of them, not long ago, said, well, said it is true that the universe appears to be designed.

Because he's having to confront the facts that life cannot exist in the universe if you move anything by just a degree or 2.

Move the moon a little bit and life on the earth ceases to exist.

Move the distance between the earth and the sun, the life, and the list just goes on and on and on.

And he says, so the universe does appear to be designed, but it's not.

And I'll respond to him by saying, if it walks like a duck and acts like a duck and quacks like a duck It is because it is a duck The universe appears to be designed because it is designed Some years ago Hubble telescope turned its eyes on a spot in the universe that scientists thought there was nothing there.

And they left it focused for 11 days just to see what would happen.

And when they got all the light collected and looked at it, the whole astronomical world was absolutely flabbergasted.

Actually, they got very quiet and very reverent, even in their writings and response to it, Because from the far reaches of the universe, they had discovered in that spot hundreds of thousands of galaxies.

They would put as they announced it to the world, the music was reverent and awe-spiring, and we don't know how to take this.

The universe is so much bigger, and they came to the conclusion that there must be 1 to 2 billion galaxies, each 1 having 1 to 2 billion suns.

They did some calculation and figured that there are more suns at that point in the universe than there are grains of sand on the seashores of the earth.

That's why they were blown out of their mind, so to speak.

A few days ago, They announced something else to the world.

We didn't take some things in our calculations and We're convinced now that there's not just 2000000000 galaxies.

The God of heaven names them all and every son.

And man when he sees that is so foolish to stand up and say, there's no God.

And they're convincing millions of young people and other people to abandon the God of the Bible.

Because they can't and are unwilling to deny the very evidence.

Because every time the sun rises in the morning according to Psalms, it begins to preach a sermon, and it preaches a sermon all day long.

But there's trouble being greatly disturbed.

However, look at verse 4, however many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of men came to about 5, 000.

So they arrested these guys, took them in before the Sanhedrin.

Verse 13 of chapter 4, verse 13 says, as they watched these untrained men, they realized that they had been with Jesus.

Jesus is the greatest educator that has ever been.
