Alright, did you all bring a pen and a paper with you?

Let's open up your, get your paper and pencil out.

Okay, this 1, this is a simple test, true or false answers.

Your father has a brain tumor and it appears to be inoperable.

Before he has the surgery, it would be wise, this is true or false, it would be wise to check with other health professionals to see who the best brain surgeon is in the area and what his or her success rate is.

You're about to select a postgraduate degree, institution.

Your future, your income, and your job depend on making the right choice.

True or false, it would be wise for you to counsel with others in your own field and in the same profession as and with your faculty advisors as to which university you should choose.

It would be wise to counsel with a realtor and your banker to get the best interest rate.

You know a half a percent can mean a lot over the period of a loan.

Good to check with your investment banker and your realtor to get the best rate and to buy in the best neighborhood.

You're successful in your career and you want to start buying stocks and build a portfolio.

It's important to counsel with your investment banker, listen to the street on the radio, and counsel with other investors to get the best rate and build your portfolio in the best way possible, true or false?

You don't know how this bothers me to have a cord hanging out like this, but That's the way it has to be.

You have children and you want to start up a retirement account and a college education account.

True or false, It's wise to counsel with another investment counselor and a retirement advisor to ensure that you will choose the best rate of return on your investment and diversify properly.

You're about to choose your life mate you can wing this 1 on your own true or false How many of you answered true to numbers 1 through 5?

How many of you answered false on number 6?

I remember what, how many of you know Dr.

Burnell Baldwin at Wildwood, he used to be a teacher down here at Loma Linda.

Diehl said when he was in his Doctor of Public Health, Dr.

Baldwin was teaching a class 1 day and he was talking to just all guys in his class.

I mean, if you know this man, he's incredible.

He said, gentlemen, when you choose a wife, let me give you some counsel.

He said, don't look at the fenders, check the engine.

Many of you in here are facing that time in your life when you are facing the decision of choosing who you will share your life with.

But those of you who are married, don't run away because we're going to make this appropriate for you too.

Why is it that on this most important decision, society tells us you make up your own mind.

Why is it that so few young people seek the counsel and advice of their godly parents.

I want to level the playing field right now right from the very beginning, ok?

I've been your age, but you haven't been my age yet.

And the Bible says that a hoary head, This is a hoary head, what I got here, this gray hair.

A hoary head is a crown of honor, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

Why is it that so many young people today make the most important decision of their life based on looks and feelings and not on intuition and spirituality and godly counsel I want to look at why the marriage relationship is so important to God.

I've got to get this little thing out here because I can talk for a long time.

Why did God give marriage to the human race?

So far as we know, Ellen White says that when God made the human race, He made a distinct order of creation.

We may be, we don't know, but it seems to be when we look at counsel that we are the only race in the universe, the only creation in the universe that can procreate itself.

Practical Christianity Seminar, Part 2

We are going to continue our talk from yesterday.

And I want to put our pyramid back up here again, because we want to be talking about that.

I'll tell you, once you hit 50, it's all uphill.

Oh yeah, I never thought I'd live to see 40.

You can tell I'm not a teacher, can't you?

And we talked about how when you have your base built correctly, and listen young people, the longer you spend in this phase and this phase, the better grounded you're going to be.

These phases, the spirituality and the social, take place in social settings, not one-on-one.

They can't fool you in a social setting because they're true character.

When you have multiple inputs coming to somebody and they have multiple personalities you're having to deal with, you can pick up real quick how they relate.

That's why this part is so important to be in a social setting where you have many different people together, many different young people together doing things together.

You know, like MV meetings or church or social gatherings or even studying together, whatever it might be.

You can really tell a lot about a person in that era, in that area.

This can be a 1 year process, 1 and a half year process up to about here, probably a 1 year process.

And this last part can go fairly quickly.

This last part can go fairly quickly because once you've laid in the ground work, you can move fairly fast from that point on.

It's usually, you know, once somebody gets a house framed in, the rest of it goes pretty quick, doesn't it?

Psalm 127 verse 1, except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it.

So that's the principle that you're talking about there.

We want to look at a couple of examples in the scripture on these things.

And I want to turn back to Ephesians chapter 5 again for a moment because that's really where we lay the groundwork for this whole talk about marriage.

And the 2 things that God created in the Garden of Eden or left humanity in the Garden of Eden as a symbol of His care and concern for them were what?

And really there's 3 things God gave us at the Garden of Eden for the church.

1 was marriage, 1 was Sabbath, what was the other?

Didn't he say in Genesis 3 15 a prophecy about Jesus coming?

I hope sometime that we can have a wonderful get together on just how to study prophecy.

Our church is under great attack on prophecy And if we don't understand our biblical roots our our our pioneer roots what it means to be a historicist What it means to let the scripture interpret itself will get into all kinds of weird things.

I had a man come into my office, I'll tell you it takes a lot of creativity to pervert prophecy.

A man came into my office with a suitcase full of books and he was going to, he had his own agenda and I asked him 1 question, I asked him 1 question, this is based on the spirit of prophecy.

Ellen White says when any man or woman comes who wants to bring in something new on prophecy, go back to the pioneers and see what they taught.

And if they would remove 1 pin or pillar from what the pioneers taught, you see it has nothing to do with them.

So I ask people 1 question based on the spirit of prophecy.

I ask them, when's the last time you read Uriah Smith's book, Daniel and the Revelation, you go, oh, well, you know, he was just, he was all wet.

And if they feel that way about that book, I don't talk to them.

I have, if you want the manuscript, I'll give it to you.

She said that book should be given to every new convert.

It would have precious light so long as probationary time should last.

That if you wanted to have an entirely new religious experience, read that book.

But I'll tell you what, when my daughter was interested in some young men The first question you might think this is stupid, but the first question I asked these boys Do you like reading the pioneers?

I asked him and they said I really have never read the pioneers.

I didn't write them off, but a red flag went up in my mind.

Because even Jesus, in Luke chapter 24, when he was on the road to Emmaus with those 2 disciples and were thinking, wow, we thought this was the Messiah.

We thought for sure He's the 1 who would come and set us free.

When Jesus had their attention, when they were in doctrinal error, when they didn't understand prophecy, when they didn't understand the sanctuary, what did Jesus do with them?

Did He say, hey guys, it's me, Jesus, remember me?

The Bible says in Luke that beginning at the Moses and all the prophets he expounded unto them the things concerning himself.

Where did Jesus take people in doctrinal error?

And we have the spirit of prophecy mandate to do that.

She said, let the words of the dead speak.

Young people, if you want an entirely new religious experience, go back to the pioneers.
