What is in a Name?

Father in heaven, thank you today that we can come into your place on your day.

And we ask that you would draw near and speak to us.

Sabaoth, Baath, the place of Saib, the respected father.

So the name of God rests on this day and we enter this palace in time.

How many of you like names and nicknames and giving people names and figuring out about their names?

I know that Elder Neil Wilson, not Ted Wilson, but his dad, he just had a knack for names.

He could remember your name for years, no matter where you were, where you'd been.

He could say your name and all the people in your family.

And many great leaders focus in on names.

Napoleon, he knew the names of almost all of his troops and he could go and navigate between 12 or 14 different languages because he had people from around the world and yet he knew all their names and he would go to the front of the battle and he would call out their names and then he would go forward.

I've been trying to learn about people's names this week as I always do.

I met someone named Ann and Ann is actually from the Hebrew name Hannah.

So it comes from Hannah, which means God is gracious.

This 1 I had to dig deep, but it just means from an ash meadow.

Now an ash is like a tree, and so Ashley.

Betty is from the Hebrew, Elashiba, which means either an oath of God or God is satisfaction and Jo means God is gracious.

So God is gracious and He is a God of satisfaction, Betty Jo.

I met someone else named Carolina, which means song of happiness or joy.

I met someone else whose name was Eden, and in Hebrew that means Delight.

And that person is a very delightful person.

I met someone named Emily, which means industrious and striving.

It comes from Dan, the river that comes from Dan, the Jordan.

But it also means 1 who descends or to flow down.

So Jordan is a down to earth type person.

And that actually comes from the Latin laurel, which is the laurels, the leaves of laurel trees were used to create victor's garlands.

So Laura means someone who's victorious and Laura's joining our church.

However, in the Bible, it means almond tree.

I met someone named Madeline, which means tower, migdala.

I met someone named Stacy, shall be reborn or resurrected, Anastasia, resurrection.

And I met someone named Peggy, from the word Penelope.

Penne means waifed or a piece of woven cloth or a weaver.

It's interpreted as the isle, from the island of the sea calves.

And the calves are better known as seals.

And no, I did not say that name backwards.

I met someone named Abraham, father of men, Hamon, many, a multitude.

And of course, his name was changed from Abram to Abraham, and Sarai to Sarah.

And that, you know, 1 of my teachers told me is, you can't say that inward.

And he says, you know, this is when you're empty of yourself and Abraham and Sarah were empty of themselves and then they were named for the Holy Spirit that took the place of them.

I met someone named Greg, which means watchful or on the watch.

Might be watching after someone named Ashley, I don't know.

And I met someone named Jonathan, which means Yahweh has given.

And then I met someone named Cameron, Which means bent nose or crooked nose.

And I looked long and said can't there be another meaning?

And I think, you know, from Scotland or England, maybe got in a fight, you know?

But was victorious, still alive, but has a crooked nose.

You don't mess with someone with a crooked nose because they might beat you up, too.

Then I met someone named Nelson, son of Neil.

And Neil, in Gaelic, is thought to mean champion.

That is possibly a traditional name from a lost or unidentified place.

The leader of the Institute is from a lost or unidentified place.

First was used in the region of Lancashire.

And the surname, a detainant from a tenant from the Lords of Natby, held by Borch, who was recorded in the Doomsday Book in the census of 1086.

Now, it did say this about Nedley, see if you like this.

It says, Nedley's can be great spiritual guides, fantastic psychologists, or very good physicians, thanks to their ability to connect with everybody on a human level.
