Marriage is Not For You Part 1

Father in heaven, we're grateful for the Sabbath once more.

And now we get to gather here to talk about something very important.

We believe it is the second most decision, important decision that we make in our lives, besides deciding to follow you, when it comes to choosing our partner for life, it's so important.

Lord, at the same time, there may be many things that the world has a grasp of, and we may be confused at times.

So we ask that you would open up our hearts and minds to understand exactly what you have for us now.

And that we may also enjoy this time together, opening up your word and understanding just a little bit more of who you are.

I would like to tell you all a story and before the story remember we're going to have about 10 minutes for your questions.

And for those of you who I met last night, I said come with 1 tough question that you would ask a newlywed couple.

So this story starts with a young man and a young lady who met at GYC 2 years ago.

This was Friday night and the young man introduced his new friend to his group of friends.

Then they started doing church stuff together.

They started going on afternoon hikes together, because what else do Adventist couples do on Sabbath afternoons?

And then they had an amazing honeymoon where everything went perfectly.

They started a ministry together and they lived happily ever after.

But we all know that's not really how the story goes.

Because we can stand up here looking like the perfect couple with nice smiles, but there's a lot going on underneath the surface.

And we wanna share with you lessons that we have been learning in just our 2 short years of marriage.

No, we haven't been married 40 years, but we do believe that God gives you even a little bit of a story that you can share to inspire someone else.

And we just want to be good stewards of that.

So we have to tell you before we start talking about why marriage is not for you, we have 5 reasons why marriage might not be for you.

And it's a play on words as you guys would have already assumed, we want to say that this is going to be somewhat of a difficult topic, not just because it's about marriage, but the way that God has inspired us and what he has shared with us, not something that a lot of us have received what marriage is to be.

And so what we present to you today, it may ruffle some feathers.

It may make you question some things, but at the end of it all, if it is from the Lord, if it is from the Bible, I want you to carefully consider what we share with you today.

And that either it will be your openness of mind and your willingness to follow the principles or rejection of that.

And God can sometimes work with that as well.

If you're holding on to your own self and your selfishness or things that you desire, He's gonna let you know.

And you have to be willing to let that let go.

So we have some wonderful things again the 5 major things we're going to talk about is why you should the reasons why you should marriage is not for you and I want you to stick around for the fifth 1.

The fifth 1, we're gonna talk about at the end, obviously, but it's about sex.

And I say that without any reserve because that's something that God has ordained, but yet the world has really changed our mindset to think that sex is something evil when it comes to any sexual activities, right?

So we are going to talk about that today as well.

Trust the Lord that He will lead in our conversation and hopefully we could have some interaction as well.

So the first 1, Marriage is not for you if your purpose don't align.

And it sounds like something that you probably heard of, right?

So when it comes to purpose, what do you think about...

We all know that God has something for us right?

Remember that there's an assignment given to you from birth that God has in mind, this is something I want to give you.

Okay, now when it comes to the purpose of marriage can anyone kind of guess or whatever you learned about it what is the purpose of marriage that you think?

Very good okay so it's like it's ultimately to glorify God alright anyone else what is what do you think is the purpose of marriage?

Ooh, that sounds tough, but yes, it does do that.

As a Christian, I think it can be obvious that that is the case.

If we could go to Genesis 2, this is the first time that God speaks to men.

When I say men in both meaning, men and women.

This is a, you could say the very first instruction that God gives to men.

And it says, and the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him and help me for him.

Here's the chronology of what happens here.

First, God is saying, what does he do with the man?

You know, a lot of us, we think that when we go to heaven, we're not gonna do anything, But there are so many parts from the Bible in Sister White that talks about how things that you do on earth, the purposes that God has given you on this earth, is actually going to continue in heaven.

So that tells me 1 thing, and 1 thing is that God's purpose on earth is supposed to continue in heaven.

So it can't just be, I'll share the gospel and save souls.

What kind of souls are you saving in heaven if they're already saved, right?

The other part is that, okay, as God gives you the purpose, or God tells you here, first, he gives him a job, he puts him in an environment where he could do that job right there is a purpose in which what he's supposed to do and he outlines it to dress it and to keep it.

Now we could go deeply into that but the point of it is there is a specific assignment that God is giving men here.

Right after this specific assignment is given what does God do?

I mean, as obviously as that sound, Because he needs help.
