Filled Up

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much for a beautiful Sabbath.

May we just keep this warmth throughout the whole year in our hearts, Lord.

May it be a foretaste of the spiritual fullness that we're going to have until you come, Lord.

Please help us to just keep a smile on our face and to be the happy Christians that you would just love to have us be.

Please help us to be what you would be if you could be here right now, living and talking and praying and singing with all of us.

We know right now you're listening to our prayer and that you're smiling.

You have a blessing for us today, each 1 of us, Lord.

We're here early and we're expecting great things.

We just lay ourselves in your hands and know you'll take the very best care of us than anyone else possibly could.

Who here is familiar with Stephen Haskell?

You've heard of the name Stephen Haskell.

So this is Ellen White's oldest granddaughter who wrote this book.

I read this this spring and every page I would keep feeling like, oh, Lord, help me to be the kind of person who will witness for you.

This man just went around the whole world and took the message with him.

And so the story I want to share with you this morning is from this book.

They want a paper in Australia because it takes like 2 months to get the paper from England all the way to Australia.

And they say, we need our own publishing work.

And so they send a culp order to Australia.

It takes him 6 weeks and he still hasn't sold a single book.

Would you be discouraged after 6 weeks and you haven't sold a single book?

But like 6 weeks, the day had been 6 weeks, he actually says, okay, I'm not going to even try to sell a book until I have assurance of victory from the Lord.

So he prays and prays and prays for like, I can't remember if it was 2 hours or something.

Just praying and praying until he knows he will sell some books.

And he went out that day and broke all the sale records that had ever been had until that point there in our Adventist history of selling books that day.

And he personally himself bought the printing press after selling so many books in Australia.

So Stephen Haskell's there and he would go places to kind of help just give the work a start.

You know, there's not, there wasn't even an Adventist church there, and he just shows up and he's going to help it start.

So then he decides to go to New Zealand just for, just for like a week maybe, and just kind of feel it out and see how, how could Adventism get started there in New Zealand.

Wouldn't that be kind of strange, you know, you just show up someplace, okay, let's see what I can do.

So he goes to a boarding house by the name, the people that owned it was Mr.

So they give him a room, he goes up to his room, and he gets his books out and his typewriter and he's about ready to start to work because he wants to get a little paper going in New Zealand.

But of course he needs to get his orders from God first.

Well, the room next to him hears someone talking.

So he goes running downstairs and says, Mr.

Hare, the room next to me, the guy is talking to himself, and if he keeps it up, you either get rid of him or I'm leaving.

Hare goes up the steps and puts his ear against the little keyhole.

Back then the doors weren't quite as good as our hotel doors now.

Lord, he's such a good man and he already believes in your second coming.

Help me to share the Sabbath truth with him.

And I know he'll accept it and you'll bless him and thank you for this wonderful mint.

And so, Edward Herrigel is running down the stairs, and he says, Lizzie, that man is praying for me.

Within a day, they're talking together, and they invite Haskell.

They say, you know, we kind of broke away from some of the churches and we're studying whatever the Bible says about truth and could you tell us how your church differs from perhaps the things we've found in the Bible or Could you just teach us?

So his first study is on the Sabbath with these people.

And the next time was about the second coming, and he would share for hours and hours.

These people every day would study with him in their little boarding house.

At the end of 3 weeks, they were solid Sabbath keepers.

Haskell was obviously staying a little longer than he had intended, but wouldn't you?

And so the man says, well, can you please come and share this truth of my father and my brothers and sisters?

New Zealand wasn't very big and here he just gets this in.

They all accept the truth, praise the Lord.

And some of them were ministers and they just start sharing Adventism, you know, from their churches.

It started with a man that is praying in his room for someone.

This type of filling is what I want us to look at this morning.

I would just, I would love to be praying and, you know, and it does happen.

God answers prayers and I'm not thinking of an illustration right at the very second, but I definitely had times where I'm like, Lord, please give me an opportunity.
