Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again.

Cheer up you pilgrims, be joyful and sing, Jesus is coming again.

O Lord, our Father in heaven, we seek thy face in prayer.

Our subject tonight is entitled, Salvation for Believers, or the Golden Stairs to the Golden City.

The questions often asked now as it was in the days of the apostles, What must I do to be saved?

The answer today is just as simple and clear as it was then.

Acts 16 31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved in thy house We find the same truth brought to view in st.

John 1 11 to 13 He came to his own and his own received him not But as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name, which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The scriptures declare that all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Therefore all men are under the condemnation of death.

But through the grace of God there is hope for all men.

John 3.16, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Christ died for our sins, 1 Corinthians 15.

He has taken our place, paid the penalty for our sins, and offers to us eternal life on the basis of our free and voluntary acceptance of his sacrifice for us.

But to believe on Christ means to receive him.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

They accept him and all he's done for them.

They accept him as their Savior, as their example, as their Lord too.

To believe in Christ, to receive him, means more than mere mental acceptance of the fact of his vicarious sacrifice?

Let's consider now the golden stairs to the Golden City, 7 different steps to be taken by the believer.

You've all heard of the famous holy staircase in Rome, believed by many to be the identical staircase Jesus ascended to Pilate's judgment hall, we're told that the angels transported it from Jerusalem to its present location.

Many ascend this staircase on their knees, stopping to repeat a prayer in each step.

They feel that in doing this special blessings are assured to them and that they're farther along their way to heaven.

It's been my privilege to see many devout persons ascend other stairs to religious shrines.

These persons were repeating prayers and they seem to be most sincere in their belief that they were climbing toward heaven and God.

But tonight we are to consider the spiritual stairs revealed in the Word of God, a series of spiritual steps the Lord has revealed in the Holy Scriptures, which will actually carry us to the great highway that leads to God's house.

And it's good to know that every person listening to this broadcast can, by God's help, go up this golden stairway to the Father's house.

It's absolutely certain that if we climb each step of these divine stairs, we will actually go through the gates of the City of God.

Really now, friends, isn't that the hope and the desire of each 1 of us?

But if we all truly, if we're all really earnest about it, we should start up these golden steps just as soon as we know what they are.

We would feel like singing the old hymn, Lord, I care not for riches, neither silver nor gold.

In the book of thy kingdom, with its pages so fair, tell me, Jesus my Savior, Is my name written there?

Oh, that beautiful city with its mansions of light, with its glorified beings in pure garments of white, where no evil thing cometh to despoil what is fair, for the angels are watching.

There are 1234567 steps in this beautiful golden stairway of truth, and they reach all the way to the golden city of the New Jerusalem.

When you think of Peter's great sermon the day of Pentecost, you remember it stirred the hearts of the people to the very depths.

And they were under deep conviction of sin, and they came to the apostles and said, What shall we do?

And here is the story in the Bible's own words, Acts 2.37.

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their hearts.

They said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized, every 1 of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sin, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Saint Paul mentions it in Acts 20, 21, testifying both to the Jews and to the Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, to repent is to be sorry for all the wrong you've done and to stop it.

It means to turn away from wrong and to turn toward the right.

The thief who repents stops stealing, does his best to make restitution.

The man who's been defiling his body temple, he cleans up.
