9 - Here Comes His Answer

Dear Lord, make me a nail upon the wall, fasten securely in its place.

Then from this thing so common and so small, hang a bright picture of thy face, and we thank you in Jesus' name, amen.

We've been studying this week concerning the science of prayer, the ABCs of claiming Bible promises.

And then we have observed that as we claim promises for the blessing to loved ones that they might find the Lord as we have found him, we've been studying how to communicate with dear souls who are in trouble.

And we've learned that unless we communicate with them as the Lord communicates, then we're canceling out our prayers.

How many here at this hour have a burden for certain loved ones?

And those that are viewing, the same way.

Now what we present to you tonight is a three-fold program, a three-point program of how our Lord himself, when he was on earth, went about blessing people.

He says in Matthew, the fourth chapter in the 19th verse, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

So friends, the way to help people, the way to win people to the Lord, is to learn How our Lord won people.

There are many people in the world today that have many wonderful promotional programs, but man's promotional program for soul winning is not enough, What do you say?

We need to learn from the author of all soul winning, how to do it.

3 points in his life that are vital to blessing souls and leading them to our Lord.

Number 1, our Lord's personal prayer life.

Any individual who thinks that he can bless other souls and lead them to the Lord Jesus Christ without a personal prayer life is wasting his time.

When I was a boy 16 years of age, my brother Lester was 18, and my brother David, who was 23, were leaving home to go to school, to a boarding school.

Father took us up to the old DeRyder New York Depot in a horse-drawn carriage, imagine that.

And while we were on our way, about 5 miles it was from our home to the depot, Father was in deep thought.

And I could detect when Father had some very, very earnest things going through his mind, and he weighed his words.

He spoke very solemnly, And he said, boys, now you're leaving home.

You won't have any parental counsel so many hundreds of miles from home.

He said, but I would suggest that you would give the Lord 1 hour every day, And this hour will be devoted to meditation, to spiritual reading, and to prayer.

He wasn't suggesting that we spend the whole hour on our knees, but that The hour at the beginning of the day would be spent in meditation, in spiritual reading, and then in prayer.

He said, if you do that, I have no fear for your future.

Because we would be drinking in the life of our Lord.

And he that has the Son has life, 1 John 5, 12.

As he was speaking, the Holy Spirit impressed me.

When we boarded the train, I never asked either 1 of my brothers what their response was.

But I said, Lord, if it'll make that much difference in my life, that problems can be solved, my, what a wonderful reward I'll receive.

Father was only able to give $10 toward my schooling that year, and I took full schoolwork, which meant that I had to work on the farm, for that's the only kind of work I knew to do.

I had to work on the farm from 40 to 60 hours every week.

Can you figure how much time you'd have even for study for the classes, much less for prayer?

I had to be at the farm at 4 30 in the morning.

And then when I was back to eat breakfast, immediately it was off to classes, then dinner and back to the farm, only allowing me a couple hours for study for all of that full school work.

Not nearly enough time for study, much less for prayer.

Why don't you then get up at 3.30 in the morning?

I made arrangements with the dean of the boys' dormitory to use the boys' washroom.

Do you know how much a 16-year-old boy enjoys getting up at 3.30 in the morning?

And the Lord gave me a format of prayer and study.

I spent about 40 minutes of that hour in reading some spiritual book, Bible-oriented book of the Bible.

Then I took an 8 1⁄2 by 11 page and made 3 lists.

Nobody suggested it, the Holy Spirit suggested it.

1 was a list of things for which I was grateful.

You know, praise is the better part of prayer.

Praise reaches right up and takes the very life of Jesus, and his life saturates the person who is praising him.

I made a list of things for which I was grateful.

I then made a list of things in my life that need to be strengthened.

Then I made a list of souls for whom I was burdened.

1 of them was 1 of my brothers who's wandering away from the Lord, Lloyd Coon.

After I was an ordained minister, it was my privilege to baptize my brother Lloyd, his wife and son.

My friends, that time that I took with the Lord didn't change me from Glen Coon.

But I found it supplied the strength, the Lord supplied the strength as I grew up the hills of difficulty and trial.

The Lord's special power helped me to negotiate the hill.

There were young men with me on the farm whom I know were basically better than I, but they didn't have a daddy or a mother to suggest that they would drink in of the life of Jesus Christ at the beginning of the day.

Consequently, they got in all kinds of trouble.

1 of the boys milked cows right next to me.

In those days, when I was a young man, you could more or less gauge a person's Christianity by how platonic his face was.

If he looked very sad, you knew he must be a wonderful Christian.

If he looked happy, he must be a superficial Christian.

This boy looked just right to be a Christian.

Brother, did he look very lovely as a corpse.

So I knew he had a vital connection with the Lord because he looked so dead.

Later we found he was involved in stealing 26 bicycles.

Another friend of mine went to the bank and had forged a check for $2, 600.

Another boy threw a rock with a note through a merchant's home, demanding so much money.

These young men were basically better than I, I'm confident.

But my friends, what they didn't know was, to have a Christian life, you take time with the Lord of the life.

And he who goes through the motions of missionary endeavor is wasting his time, beloved.

I want to recommend to you, and I want to ask the Lord, and I've been pleading with him today, that he would bless in this service, that no matter how busy you are, beloved, no matter how much work you have to do, that you'll place your relationship with Jesus Christ in the foreground.

And if the devil tells you you can't afford it, claim the promise of Matthew 633.

Our Lord Jesus said, if you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, he will add all the temporal things.

God helped me with that tremendous amount of work I had to do, physical work, to pass every grade in school.

And I have met other men, married with large families, who have done the same.

They explained that what they did, they claimed God's special guidance.

They asked God to work the miracles in their lives.

If God will do it for a 16-year-old boy, he will do it for any of us, my friends.

He made the world by the breath of his mouth.

You and I are to expect miracles from the hand of God when we will snuggle up in the arms of Jesus.

8 - Jesus for Your Very Own

Amen My wife and I are receiving some wonderful letters.

We're also receiving some panicky letters.

We've received several panicky letters recently.

1, a young Christian friend of ours, writes, as I look out upon the world and I see what is taking place all of our world, I realize that human probation is soon to close.

And to be perfectly frank, Pastor Kuhn, I'm not ready.

And it seems to me, according to the events that are taking place all over the world, " she went on to say, that I don't have very much time in which to prepare.

And it looks to me like it would be within the next few months that the probation of humanity will close.

I don't see how I can be ready in the next few months.

I believe that Christianity is divided into 3 classes in this respect.

1 are those that are panicking because the days in which we live, they realize that humanity is doomed of itself, so they're panicking.

Another class of those who are moving right along in Laodicean style, as presented in Revelation, the third chapter.

I guess everything is pretty much all right, and maybe something will happen sometime, but I believe everything's all right.

Then there's the third class who are not panicking and they're not sitting around unconcerned, but they're saying, I'm concerned.

I want to go with his redeemed through those gates into that city of gold.

I want to dwell with him through the ceaseless ages of eternity.

If you belong to the panicky class this morning, may the Lord bring you hope.

If you belong to the Laodicean class that is engaging in the filth and the sensuality of the world, and you're really not worrying, may the Holy Spirit stir your mind up, for my friends, Jesus is coming soon.

And those of you, you believe Jesus is coming soon.

I believe it at all my heart So don't panic Jesus said as recorded in in Luke 21 26 that 1 of the signs of his eminent return is men's hearts will be failing them for fear and for looking after those things that are coming on the earth.

So he said the panicky heart is 1 of the signs of his imminent return.

He also says in Revelation 3 that there are men and women in the very last days of earth's history who will be moving along nonchalantly, engaging in filth, engaging in money making, engaging in sharp dealing, engaging in sins of this world as though they had a millennium in which to prepare.

He said, look, I stand at the door and knock.

If you're here for yourself, if you'll invite me in as your very personal Savior, I will come in, I'll prepare for your feast, I will do the work that is needed to prepare you to meet me, for those who are concerned.

How do we accept Jesus as our personal Savior?

I was pastor of a college church many years ago and 1 morning I stood before them in the worship hour and I said, now look, you students, as you go out, as missionaries for the Lord, for every Christian is a missionary, if he only knows it.

I said, as you go out, tell people the simple how of salvation.

The next morning somebody knocked at my study door, a student, and said, Pastor, will you please tell me how?

And I thought, wait a minute, I'm sharing with them the challenge to share with others the how, and I hadn't made clear to them the how?

I said, yes, I'll share with you the how.

And I want to share it with you friends this morning so that you in turn can share it wherever you go because otherwise we will be all wrapped up in the wrong philosophy of the how.

What a tragedy to be obsessed with the wrong philosophy and Find that the how wasn't the how at all wouldn't that be a tragedy He said many will say I mean that day Lord.

We've prophesied in your name in your name.

We've done many wonderful works and I'll say you and I didn't have a fellowship.

I've never known you, you've never known me, so it's important that we know the how, right?

Our opening text then for the how is this, and the statement is this.

There are things to be considered, but all the things accompany salvation.

Salvation is not found in things, it is found in a person.

And if you and I are busy sharing with people things in place of a person, we have the wrong philosophy.

All you ends of the earth, for I am God and there's none else.

The New Testament text, 1 of many, is found in Acts 1631.

The Apostle Paul was speaking to the Philippian jailer, and notice what he says to him.

When the jailer said, what must I do to be saved?

And notice what the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, told this man.

Do you notice the many things that he told him?

Do you notice how the Apostle Paul became bogged down in things?

He said to this jailer, follow carefully and see if I'm telling it straight, he said to this jailer, if you want to be saved, remember now, this thing and this thing and this thing and this thing and this thing and this thing, and remember this thing also is very important, and this is tremendously important.

The poor jailer was already trembling, and if Paul had told him that, he'd put him in into a frustration.

Paul said, Believe on the Lord, Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

Is that the Bible philosophy or isn't it?

If it is the Bible philosophy, then God is telling you and me, you tell people to look to Jesus Christ and make him their Lord, their Savior, their personal Savior, their Christ, and that is salvation.

And my friends, because this is salvation in both the Old and the New Testament, the devil will do everything in his power to get you beloved, and you beloved, and you who are viewing beloved, and myself, to get bogged down in these things and the other things, and still added things, instead of getting obsessed and saturated with looking to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

It was taught through the entire Old Testament.

It is taught through the entire New Testament.

We sing it, there's life in a look at the sacred cross.

When the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness, those who looked in simple faith were saved from the destructive stings of the serpents.

Those who tried to go into a deep philosophy, a complicated philosophy, were lost.

Friends, beware of this complicated philosophy of salvation.

You get to looking to these things and those things and other things, and my friends, you can find your life devoid of the life of the source of life, Jesus Christ.

Look unto me and you'll be what, everybody?

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.

To believe on the Lord, Jesus Christ means, I look to the Lord as my Lord.

Instead of my trying to map out my life anymore, I let him take over.

Because while I'm trying to work out my own plans and I'm trying to solve my own problems, I'm only complicating it, right?

But when I relax in the 1 who made the heavens and the earth, the 1 who died on Calvary.

And I said, look, you can handle my problems a lot better than I can.

7 - Lord Save my Teenager

Dear Lord, just make me a nail, a humble nail on the wall to hold a picture, the picture of Jesus in its place, and help each 1 of us to do the same as we communicate Jesus, and we thank you in thy lovely name, amen.

Our topic tonight has to do with 7 secrets of communicating with an individual for whom we're praying.

It has to do with communicating with the people in our home, communicating with our sons and daughters, communicating with our husbands and wives.

And I pray to the Lord, friends, that we won't think in terms of what other people should learn from tonight, but that every 1 of us here in the sanctuary, everyone who is viewing this particular study will be pleading with the Lord to teach us how we can communicate with an individual and find what is promised in the first Psalm.

It says if we will meditate in the Lord's laws, laws of communication tonight, whatever we do will prosper.

I have found that for an individual to really study The science of talking with people, the science of writing to people, of communicating with them in any way, to really learn this science is a tremendous victory.

We have briefly summarized it under 7 words.

Choice means we do not tell any adult anything unless he wants to know, how about that?

If we don't nag, under choice, if we don't belittle, people feel at ease in our presence.

And the convicting power they recognize is from the Lord.

But if we get on their backs by nagging and belittling, they equate even the Holy Spirit's voice to human nagging.

Then in another study, we discussed Jesus and joy.

We found there were 826 texts of Scripture commanding and joining, teaching us to be happy Christians.

We learn to be happy Christians, it means to save a marriage, it means to save souls, it means to save our health, It means we have peace of mind.

Everybody wants to be around a joyful person.

That's why so many people go to the world.

They dance, they laugh, they carouse, and the 1 who doesn't know any better thinks they're happy.

They look at the Christian and they see an irritated look, they see a worrisome face, and they feel that the world has something to offer that the Christian doesn't.

We must not let the world outdo us in joy.

Then and by the way, the laws of Jesus and joy are laws of strong allurement Jesus allures Hosea 2 14 and joy is strength Nehemiah 810 So the joy of Jesus brings strong allurement.

People want what we have when they find we're joyful in the Lord.

They feel at ease in our presence when we give them choice and we're humble.

So choice and humility are the 2 laws of human ease.

But when we're joyful in Jesus, we allure them to the Christ in us.

Now then, there are 3 more special secrets or laws of communication.

We want you to notice particularly, faith isn't merely trust in the Lord, it is that.

For us to have faith in a person with whom we communicate, follow me carefully, for us to express faith in a person with whom we communicate means that we'll let that person know that we believe He is sincere.

Many times people come to me and they say, how would you answer a person who said, I don't believe God exists?

You'd be astonished what a word of spoken faith will do to that individual.

First John 5, 4 says, this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

And I've shared it with 2 or 3 people individually this week because it's so tremendous.

Last fall we were in a certain city where they invited us to go to a noon meal and they explained to us it was because they had a niece they hoped we could reach.

This young niece, only in her early 20s, was living out of wedlock, living in open sin.

And they hoped that we might be able somehow to convince her, to persuade her, to cease to live in sin.

Now, we knew that we had no business to go there and make choices, right?

We knew we had no business to go there and belittle her, you see.

If we nagged her and belittled her, she'd feel ill at ease.

So at once we knew we shouldn't nag her, we shouldn't belittle her.

We knew that as we sat to the noon meal, we should reflect the joy of Jesus because the Lord has promised to deliver people who all their lifetime were subject to bondage, Hebrews 2, 14 and 15.

So we had a right to sit there and eat that happy lunch together and everybody could see in our faces that we believed Jesus Christ.

If our faces reflect a solemn worry, you think she would have any confidence in our telling her how to be happy if she couldn't see any happiness stamped on our features?

And then we knew that in order to apply the right kind of pressure that she would like, we must speak faith not merely in God, but faith in her together.

After the meal was over, and I was praying for the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit is the 1 that can help us to talk faith in a person in whom we seem to have no confidence.

After the meal was over and we were getting ready to leave, different ones were talking to different ones there, and I was asking the Lord to help me, And as the Lord would have it, this young lady, I'll call her Mary.

Mary and I were over in 1 section of the room just alone, maybe no 1 within 6 or 8 feet.

If I can express faith in a person who is living in open sin, how are you going to express faith in a person who's living in open sin?

Well, this is what the Lord impressed me to say.

I took Mary by the hand, Gave her a little gentle squeeze.

I looked her full in the face and I said, Mary, I want to make a prediction.

I predict that you're going to have a fabulous experience in Christ and you're going to be a tremendous witness for Jesus.

So glad to have seen you and such like and we left.
