Hello friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together praising him. I love the verse in one John chapter five, verse four that says, for whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world. Our faith, when we are born of God, we can overcome sin and its temptations. We will have the victory over our sinful actions and thoughts. But the key is being born of God. Let's ask him for that rebirth today. That name is Shall before the angels. He shall know his name, then the heart name, Host night. Hey, Jesus, green name. Faith Is a victory. Faith, a victory. Victory the World. Do you have your prayer journal? I hope you do. If you were able to get just a small notebook or a very inexpensive notebook at the store, or if you didn't, you weren't able to do that, you can always take some paper and staple it together to make a little booklet. But today's verse is Matthew chapter six, verse 14. Remember, we've been talking about forgiveness and the promises that God gives us that he forgives our sins, which is good because we need forgiveness in order for our sins to be washed away. Because you know what? We want to live pure and godly lives. So Matthew chapter six, verse 14. You can write down the reference or the Bible verse, moms and dads or grandparents. You can look on our website starting with jesus.com because on that website, we have a PDF download under Katie's corner. We have a PDF download for you to be able to download all the Bible texts that I am using and going through this quarter. So it's all divided out. And you can have that. You can put it on on a fridge, you could, I mean, some moms might even wanna laminate it. And then that way it doesn't get all ruined. But you can have those Bible verse references. And if you wanna help your child, if they need some help with writing or boys and girls, you can copy it from the Bible, write it down into your prayer journal, or you can even draw a picture of what this verse means to you and what it's saying to you. So I wanna encourage you to do that. So we are going to Matthew chapter six, verse 14, Matthews in the New Testament, that first book, Matthew chapter six, verse 14, for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Have you ever had somebody do something to you that wasn't right and you had a choice? You could either be really mad and angry about it or you could forgive them. Well, the Bible is sane that if that means it's a condition, if we forgive people that do things against us, then our heavenly Father will also forgive you. So if we refuse to forgive, will God forgive us when we do things that are wrong? No. He wants for us to show the forgiveness that we've received from him to others. He doesn't want us to just be like, my brother did that, and I'm not gonna forgive him. No, he wants us to forgive just like he forgives us. And when we forgive, then guess what? He forgives us. Isn't that encouraging? So how could we use this Bible verse in a prayer? Well, I'll show you an example. Now everyone's is gonna be different. You might actually use an example of someone who has done something against you, somebody who has maybe on purpose or not on purpose. Maybe they did it accidentally, somebody who has done something against you. And we can pray this prayer that God will help us to forgive them. Or maybe we just want God to forgive us. And so we wanna ask him to help us to forgive others. But okay, enough talking. Let me show you what I'm talking about. So Matthew six 14, I have it open in front of me. Here is an example of what I would pray. Dear Lord, please help me to forgive my brother or my mother or my friend when they did, and then you can put in whatever they did. When I forgive others, Lord, you forgive me. And so I pray that you will help me to forgive them, and that you will forgive me for my mistakes and when I have sinned against you, thank you that you have promised that you will forgive. I claim that promise today. Amen. Do you see how we use the Bible verse to pray? Now, sometimes it's easier and sometimes it's a little harder. But keep practicing. Keep having your prayer time every single day. And I wanna encourage you and remind you to pray for the five people in your journal. Now, maybe some of you have more than five, and that's awesome, that's good. Maybe some of you only have three, and that's all right too. But I wanna encourage you to keep praying for them in a specific way. God is going to do a mighty thing in their hearts and in their lives because you have been praying. Have you ever done something wrong? I have. And I'm gonna tell you that story in just a little bit. But before we get started, let's pray that God's spirit will be with us. Lord, thank you for this opportunity. We have to study your word. Come into our hearts and be with us. Help us to learn and understand what you want us to know today. In Jesus' name, amen. What happened last time? Well, Ruben, Joseph's older brother wasn't there when the traitors bought Joseph, cuz the brothers, they had captured Joseph and they wanted to get rid of him. What happened when he got back and discovered that Joseph was gone? Let's open up our Bibles to Genesis chapter 37 verses 29 through 35, 29 through 35. So we're in Genesis chapter 37, and then read verse 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 7 verses. All right, Genesis chapter 37 verses 29 through 35. Then Ruben returned to the pit, and indeed Joseph was not in the pit, and he tore his clothes and he returned to his brothers and said, the la is no more and I, where shall I go? So they took Joseph's tunic, killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood. Then they said the tunic of many colors, and they brought it to their father and said, we have found this. Do you know whether it is your son's tunic or not? And he recognized that and said, it's my son's tunic. A wild beast has devoured him without doubt, Joseph is torn to pieces. Then Jacob tos clothes, puts Zach Claus on his waist and mourn for his son many days. And all his sons and his daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, for I shall go down into the grave to my son. And his father wept for him. It was too late. There was nothing to do. They could not go back. They decided to continue along the path that they had started down. They took Joseph's coat, they tore it up, they dipped it in blood. I'm sure they left it outside so that the flies and the bugs and the sun could make it look authentic like he had been killed by a wild animal. And they took that coat back to Jacob. Now, was Jacob like, oh, it's my son. No, he tore his clothes. He was mourning, he was crying. My son, Joseph, Joseph, Joseph, Joseph's brothers had thought that they were gonna be happier with Joseph. Gone. They're like, let's get rid of him. That'll solve all of our problems. But now, as they saw how terribly sad their father Jacob was, they weren't happy at all. And not only that, they felt guilty and miserable. Have you ever felt guilty and miserable? I'm gonna tell you a story that is quite embarrassing, but I definitely learned my lesson. My husband and I had someone living at our house for a school year, and during that time, the person had their own room and they had their own stuff. Well, during this time, I went to take something of hers and put it in her room. And as I walked out, I saw a journal, her journal on the Bedstand, she was gone. And I didn't even think about it. I, I picked up that journal and I just started leafing through and reading it. I should never, never have done that. And all of a sudden it struck me what I was doing, and I slammed it shut and stuck it on the dresser, back on the nightstand and walked out and closed the door. I didn't mean to do it, I just started doing it. And when I realized what I was doing was wrong, I stopped. But then I felt guilty. Really, really guilty. It was just bothering me. I was so miserable. And I thought maybe if I just pray and ask God to forgive me, that's good enough. I didn't, I didn't mean to, but I, my conscience was bothering me so badly. And like all I could think about was what I had done. And I just, mm, I didn't wanna tell her. But I knew that if I didn't tell her, then it was just gonna keep eating at me. And so I decided to tell her, and I told her, and I apologize. I said, I am so sorry. Here's what happened. And when I, when I made things right, do you know how I felt so much better? I felt like a weight had been lifted off and I felt free again. So you have these brothers who had done something terribly wrong on purpose. And now they had to live with that guilt. They had to live with the lies that they told. They were afraid to tell the truth because if their father knew what they had done, he, he might even feel worse and he would do something to them. For the first time, they began to realize how wrong they had been. They actually began to feel sorry for what they had done. Well, during this time, Joseph was on his way to Egypt as a slave. They didn't ride in cars or trains or airplanes. They rode on a camel or on a donkey, or they walked. And being a slave, he probably walked. It was a long, long ways. And as he's going along, he feels as if his heart would break. He knew that his father was just over the hills because where he had been sold as a traitor was north in Canaan, where his father lived, was south in Canaan. And where Egypt was, was even further south. So as he's traveling along this road, he can see often the distance, the hills where his father lives. He knew though, ugh, there was no hope for rescue even though he was so close. If only his father knew what was happening, he would rescue him. But that wasn't gonna happen. Joseph thought of how sad Jacob was gonna be. Do you think Satan was tempting Joseph to wonder if God really loved him? Of course. But Joseph had already made a choice. No matter what happened to him, he had decided he would always love, trust, and obey God. He chose to not turn away from God. He chose to follow him. I kind of wonder if the traitors, the Ishmael Lights, they were distant family relatives of Joseph from his great Uncle Ishma. I wonder if they were watching him carefully as they traveled along. See, you know how he was acting, how he was handling this. He was polite. He was helpful, even though he was very sad. You know, boys and girls, it's not always easy to trust and to obey Jesus. Sometimes bad things happen. We find ourselves in situations that we didn't choose. Joseph did not choose to be sold. That happened to him. He could have asked, why, God are you letting such a terrible thing happen to me? But you know what? In our world, it's a world of sin and sometimes bad things happen to good people, but it's important that we choose, make that choice. Commit to trust God no matter what happens, that we will rely on him, that we will love him, that he will be our God. Do you wanna do that? I know I do. Let's pray. Lord, help us to choose you even when bad things happen. Help us to do what you want us to do. We love you so much. Come into our hearts today. Help us in all that we do, our school, our work, our play, everything. Help us to give you our entire lives. In Jesus' name, amen. Matthew 28 20. I am with you end of.
