Have you ever told a lie? When I was a child, lying came very easily, in fact, it became a bad habit. I discovered that I could look someone in the eye and tell them a lie with ease. But as I got older, I realized how wrong that was and I asked God for help! And He helped me! Now I feel HORRIBLE if I tell even something that is slightly misleading. Our lesson this week is about a whole city who told a lie, and we will find out what happened when it was discovered that they were lying!

Hello friends. Welcome to the seed pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today. As we spend time with our friend, Jesus spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. This song began as a poem written by Joseph Henry Gilmore in 1862. He was a Baptist minister. In one day. He was asked to preach at a prayer meeting in Philadelphia for the first Baptist church. He focused on Psalm 23. Do you know that Psalm how Jesus is our shepherd and he leads us. He was sane. The phrase. He leadeth me really stuck in his mind. And even when he went back to where they were staying, he continued to talk and think about Jesus leading us. He wrote down four stanza and showed them to his wife, but they didn't really talk anymore about it. So how does it become a song you might ask? Well, you'll have to find out next time, but this is the song or at least the poem that he wrote became this song. He lead with me. He and earth Welcome to the Bible, tells me so a program sponsored by starting with Jesus. I'm miss Katie. Your host. Today. We have Micah to read our questions. Pastor Jonathan is with us to help us find the answer in our Bibles. And Aiden will read the Bible verse for us. Do you have your Bibles ready? If you don't, you might wanna go and get them so that we can find and read the answers together. Let's go ahead and get started. Some of our listeners have sent us questions through Instagram or through our Facebook page, starting with Jesus. If you wanna go check those out, you are welcome to, or I should say your parents are welcome to our first question is from Bianca and she lives in Northern California, actually near where I grew up and where my parents still live. Bianca has this question. Are there animals in heaven? That's a great question. Do you have your Bible? I hope so. Let's turn to Isaiah chapter 11 versus six to nine, Isaiah chapter 11 versus 6, 7, 8, and nine. Isaiah's sort of in the middle of the Bible, Isaiah, and then you have chapter 11. Those are the big numbers. Chapter 11, verse 6, 7, 8, and nine. Micah. What does that say? The Wolf also shall dwell with the lamb. The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the full fat lean together. And the little child shall eat them. The cow and the bear shall graze. Their young ones shall lie down together and the lion shall extra like an ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobras hole and the weened child shall put his hand in the Vipers den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain for the earth shall be full of knowledge of the Lord and the waters cover the sea. So if you compare this passage with Isaiah chapter 65, you'll find that it's a description of the new earth that God will create. One day, a day will come. When those who know and love, God will get to live in a world where no one hurts or destroys. Not even the animals there. The wild animals will eat grass next to the farm animals. And the little children will play next to the snakes and no one will be afraid. So there will definitely be animals in the new earth. Now, as far as animals being in heaven, the descriptions we find in the Bible don't really say one way or the other. So that means we'll have to find out when we get there. Hey boys and girls, have you ever been tricked into maybe a friendship? Yeah, doesn't usually happen very often. I had one person who called me up one day and we had been acquaintances. I hadn't really talked to them in years and years and they called me up and they were just chatting away for like an hour. And we had quite a few things in common. And so we were making friends and reconnecting and I, I got off the phone after an hour with her and I was like, wow, that was, that was amazing. I really enjoyed that friendship. This could be something that I would really like, but you know what? Just a couple days later, she called me up again with someone else on the phone. And she tried to get me to buy some of the products that they were selling. And when I told them very nicely, no, I I'm. I'm not interested in doing that. And I don't do that. They, they said, okay. And they hung up and I never heard from her again. I felt really, really bad because I felt like she was trying to be friends with me just so that she could get me to buy her products. You know, the story today in the Bible is about a group called the Gibbon Knights and they are going to go and trick the children of Israel into forming a peace treaty. We're gonna learn a little bit more about that and how the children of Israel felt when they found out that they were tricked. Kind of like when my friend called me up to connect and reconnect and to be friends, and then she just wanted me to buy her products. And I never heard from her again, I felt tricked before we get started, though, we're going to bow our heads in prayer. Lord, we pray for your wisdom and your love. As we read the story today, help us to be genuine, help us to be real, help us to be caring and kind to others, help us not to be deceitful or lie, but to be honest and truthful in everything we do in Jesus' name, amen. Not very far from where the Israelites were camping, there was an important city and it was called Gibbon. We can read about it in Joshua chapter 10, verse two, the Bible gives us a clue about this city. What kind of city it was, you know, there were some cities or towns that were small and maybe not so important, but the Bible describes this particular city as very important. Let's read it in Joshua chapter 10, verse two. Do you have your Bibles? I hope you have them so that we can read this and look it up and read it together. Let's go to Joshua. It's right after dute Romy, Joshua judges, Ruth it's in the old Testament. It's like the sixth book in the old Testament. I think Joshua chapter 10. Those are the big numbers. I have my Bible here. Let's go to Joshua. Chapter 10. Here we go. All right. I'm able to find it. If you need more time, just press pause. And when you're ready, you can press play again. We're going to read together Joshua chapter 10 verse two, That they feared greatly because GI was a great city, like one of the Royal cities. And because it was greater than I, and all it's men were my team. Gibbon was a great city. In fact, the Bible says it was like one of the Royal cities. What's a Royal city. Well, when you think of royalty, you think of a king or a queen. So it was a very special, important city. It probably even had a palace or a very pretty decorated streets and buildings. And it was, it was very nice and it was greater than AI. Remember AI was the one where Joshua and the children of Israel, they went to fight against and then they lost. They thought it would just be an easy win, but Aiken had disobeyed God. And there was sin in the camp. So this city Gibbon was even bigger and better than AI and all of its men were, what, what does the Bible say? What's that word? Mighty. They were mighty. They were strong. They were warriors. That sounds pretty important. Doesn't it? People traveling between the middle and Southern parts of Canan. They sometimes went through this city of Gibbon. It was kind of along a thoroughfare of where they would go. Of course, the Canaanite Kings didn't want Israelites to take over Gibbon, cuz then they would control that area or that part of the territory, even though they knew about the wonderful things God had done at Jericho, remember the walls falling, falling down and AI, what did they decide to do? Anyway, let's read Joshua chapter nine, verse one and two. So we're gonna go back one chapter, one chapter, all of the Kings are getting together and mm they're not very happy with Joshua cuz they're afraid that he's gonna come in and take over their cities, which is true. He was going to, because God had given this land to the Israelites. So let's read Joshua chapter nine, first one and two. And it came to pass when all the Kings who were on this side of the Jordan in the Hills and on the low land and then all the coast of the great sea towards Lebanon, the, to it, the Amite, the can Knight, the pair of light and the Hitite and the JBU heard about it, that and that they gathered together to fight with Joshua and Israel, with one accord, All these Kings are gathering together to fight against Joshua. There were highlights among these Kings, but the highlights who were living in Gibbon believed that the God of Israel must surely be stronger than all of their gods. So even though the other Kings in the area in the land wanted to fight the Israelites, the GI Knights came up with a different plan. They came up with a strategy. They didn't wanna fight the Israelites. They wanted to use trickery to maybe, you know, get on the Israelites good side. So the GI Knights decided to make a plan that they thought would save their lives. If the Israelites would agree to it. So what was this plan? Let's read versus three, four and five. We're still in Joshua chapter nine. And now we're gonna read verse three and verse four and verse five. When the inhabitants of GI GI heard what Joshua had done to Jerry cope and I four, they worked craftly and we started to pretend to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks on their donkeys, old wine skins, torn and meaned five old and patched sandals on their feet and old garments on themselves. All and all of the bread of their provision was dry and moldy. The Bible says that they pretended to be what ambassadors that is where a group of people from another country go to a different country and they represent them. So they go on a visiting tour. I was very interested in a recent Royal tour that the prince William and DUS Catherine, that they took to the Caribbean and they went down and they visited the different countries in the Caribbean and talked with them and they shared some of the struggles that they had. Well, the countries did and they were ambassadors. They went to another country representing England or the UK. So that's what an ambassador is. And the Gibeonites decided that they would pretend to be ambassadors from another country. When they go to visit a different country, they weigh their wear their very best clothes and they look important. That's because they are important. Well, why did these particular ambassadors or pretended ambassadors? Why did they wear old, old clothes and bring old sacks on their donkeys and have the wine skins all torn and MedEd? Why, why were they trying to look like beggars? That doesn't make any sense? Does it? Oh, maybe because what they were planning to do, it was to trick the Israelites. So there they go. They have their old and patched sandals on their feet. They're wearing old garments and the bread that they brought was all moldy and off they go, they arrived at the camp of the Israelites and they asked to speak to Joshua as Joshua and the elders looked at them. They must have wondered who are these people? They look a little disheveled and what did they want when they introduced themselves? What did they say? Look at verse six. And they went to Joshua to the camp, go go and said to him, and to the main of Israel, we have come from a far country now therefore make a covenant with us. They said that they had come from a far country. Was that true? No, it wasn't boys and girls, if you had been there that day, would you have thought that those people were telling the truth or lying? Well, they said they were from a far country that it took many, many weeks or many, many days traveling to get there. Their shoes had worn out. Their clothes were worn out. Their bread was moldy. The wine skins were torn that shows that well, at least it should show that they were had been traveling for quite a while. Doesn't it? Hmm. Who could have told Joshua and the leaders, what was really going on? God could have, yes, you're right. Does God want to help us to not make bad mistakes? When people lie to us, he does. God is always there to help us. He wants to protect us, but we need God to lead us and guide us and to help us. Don't we? Yes. We need to talk to him and ask him for help. We're gonna find out if Joshua did that or if he just relied on his own wisdom and his own understanding, let's bow our heads in prayer before we close today, Lord. Wow. This is such an interesting story. You are there for us and you want to be there for us, but Lord, we need to turn to you when we need help. When we need wisdom, you have said, let all who lack wisdom, call to you and ask you for that wisdom. And you will give it. I pray that you will give us wisdom today that you will lead us and guide us and help us not to make poor choices or bad mistakes like Joshua was about to make. We want to be on your side and follow you in Jesus name. Amen. We have a wonderful memory verse today. It's from Proverbs chapter 12, verse 22 line lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are his delight. Do you know what abomination is? It's something that is terrible. So when we lie, that's terrible to God. But when we are truthful, we bring him delight. Isn't that wonderful. I wanna bring God delight today. How about you? The Lord, Lord Proverbs chapter 12, yours are in Lord. The problems chapter 12, two Proverbs chapter 12. First 22, Starting with Jesus is the most important thing you can do for your child. But what about us as busy adults in order to be the best teachers for our kids, we need to prioritize our own spiritual needs.
