The Greatest Generation

It's a blessing and honor to be here today at Avinhope.

It's a blessing to see so many people at Spring Break.

What better place to be than Avinhope instead of Florida, amen?

Today I'm gonna share with you something that's special in my heart.

In my previous lifetime, I was a history teacher out of public school, so history is very important to me.

And 2012 marks the 10 year anniversary of many things that are happening here in Southern California.

By the way, happy 10 year anniversary to Avin Hope, praise the Lord.

And 10 years ago was the beginning of the Revival Reformation Movement, not only here in Loma Linda, but also in Los Angeles.

And I wanted to share how the movement in LA started and how the movement in LA combined with the movement of Loma Linda combined forces to have what we have here today.

And so before I begin, let's have a word of prayer to title my messages, The Greatest Generation.

Before I begin, Let's have a word of prayer.

Our Father and God in heaven, Father, we thank you for your mercy and grace.

Father, I thank you for the precious souls that have come to gain a blessing from your word.

And Father, in spite of myself, Father, bless the sacrifice and time that they have to come here at Advent Hope to gain a blessing.

And that your spirit be upon us in our hearts.

And that we be awakened to the times that we're living in.

And to appreciate the sacrifices of the past.

To fulfill and finish the work of the present that you've commissioned us to do so that we can see you in the clouds of glory and declare the third angels message with power this we pray in Jesus name amen The journalist Tom Brokaw coined the term greatest generation.

Now he asserts that the greatest generation is the generation between 1911 to 1924.

This was the generation that fought during World War II and many again in the Korean War, and went on to rebuild the world's industries and establish the economic powers that we enjoy today.

From this generation, we have such luminaries, including Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, Ronald Reagan, John and Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X, among many others.

This was the generation that came out of the Great Depression and sandwiched between the Great Depression was the specters of war in both Europe and in Asia.

It was a period of uncertainty, of economic uncertainty, and also the uncertainty of democracy.

The threat of tyranny was right before them.

Broca states, the nation turned to its young to carry the heaviest burden, to fight in enemy territory and to keep the home front secure and productive.

These young men and women were eager for the assignment.

They understood what was required of them and they willingly volunteered for their duty.

But I want to respectfully disagree that that generation is the greatest generation.

Although that generation did great things.

Notice what the Bible says in John chapter 14.

In John 14 verse 11, John 14 verse 11, and when you're there, please say amen.

And Jesus said, Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me, or else believe me for the very work's sake.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works that these shall he do, because I go unto my Father." So there's gonna be a generation that's gonna do greater works than Jesus' ministry on earth at that time.

Because Jesus goes to his Father in the heavenly sanctuary.

Verse 13, And whosoever shall ask in my name, and will I do, and the Father may be glorified in the Son, If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.

If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter that he may abide with you forever.

So we know that Jesus, after his earthly ministry, went to the heavenly sanctuary.

He was coordinated as high priest, and the early rain fell down to the disciples, and they did great works.

A localized ministry of Jesus and Judea spread to all throughout the Roman Empire, conquering the Roman Empire with the love of Jesus.

And in the last days there is a thing called a Lateran will finish the work that the early church had commissioned.

So when will this greatest generation arise?

Notice what the Bible says in Joel chapter 2, Joel chapter 2, Joel chapter 2 verse 15.

When will this greatest generation arise?

The Bible says, Gather the children and those that suck the breast, let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber and the bride out of her closet.

Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, spare thy people, O Lord, and give them not thine heritage of reproach, that the heathen should rule over them.

Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

So in this time, this generation that will rise will come in a generation of crisis where there's a call of weeping because God's name and his reputation of God's movement is at stake.

There'll be uncertainty and attacks and a misrepresentation of the character of God.

There'll be a crisis that is coming to God's people.

But I praise God with every crisis there is deliverance.

And notice what the Bible says in verse 18.

Then will the Lord be jealous of his land and pity his people.

Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, behold, I will send you corn and wine and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith, and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen.

But I will move far off from you the northern army, and I will drive him into a land barren and desolate, and to its face towards the East Sea, and his hitter part toward the utmost Sea, and the stink shall come up, and his ill savor shall come up, because he hath done great things.

Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice, for the Lord will do great things.

And so, when God's people humble themselves, when God's people do not rely on their power and their institutions and their technology, but they rely upon the Spirit of God, and they know that every earthly support is cut off at that time.

When the Northern Spiritual Army, the papacy, stakes at the tack of religious liberty, and God's movement is in the forefront of being destroyed.

And he will not make a reproach of his people.

And also the Bible says in Verse 27, what will God allow this greatest generation to do?

Then he said in verse 27, ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, that I am the Lord your God and none else, and my people shall never be ashamed.

And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh.

All your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

And also upon the servants and upon the handmaidens in those days will I pour out my spirit." God will pour out his latter rain to God's people to finish the work in a period of crisis, thereby the greatest generation in Earth's history being from the lowest of the low, the sinful of the sinful, will come again in the stage of the wickedest part of Earth's history.

But who will make up for this greater generation?

When World War II began, Tom Brokaw states, in America, young men in a period of crisis in America were enlisting in the military by the hundreds of thousands.

Farm kids from the Great Plains who never expected to see the ocean in their lifetime signed up for the Navy.

Brothers follow brothers into the Marines.

Yet these unqualified young men, these rag-tag bunch, You got to remember in America at that time, American military technically was not strong.

Germany and Japan had professional militaries, hardened in battle.

They had superior experience, yet this rag-tag bunch of young people with the spirit and drive of believing American democracy defeated tyranny.

These unqualified, rag-tag young people, some not even seen an ocean, served in our great navies to defeat tyranny at that time.

Notice what the Bible says in Matthew chapter 4.

Who did Jesus enlist in this ministry during his early ministry?

The Bible says, from that time Jesus began to preach and to say, repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw 2 brethren, Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, cast the net into the sea, and they were fishers.

And he said unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

And they straightway left their nest and followed him.

With all due respect, the greatest generation, the prerequisite is not a theological degree.

God chose the equivalent of high school dropouts in Judea at that time to be part of his ministry.

Do you know in the Jewish economy, 1 must memorize the Torah by the age of 12, and if they do, word for word, they advance to the higher schools of that time?
